I know everyone likes a winner as evidenced by the exodus from Venus' bandwagon onto Serena's we have seen this past year, But why do you think people direct so much venom and ridicule towards Venus because of her losses to Serena? Serena has been nearly invincible and should have been heavily favored to beat Venus this US open, but you would think Venus was the one to beat based on all the support Serena was getting. Basically people still react to Serena like she is an underdog when she faces Venus and throw all the support in her corner. I would have expected Venus to get more support this year since Serena had already beaten her twice in Grand Slam finals. Both Williams and non-Williams fans actually seem overjoyed that Venus lost again in some cases- is there something going on that I'm missing?

I still luv Venus and hopes she continues to add to her remarkable year (7 titles and 3 slam finals, only three losses to the rest of the tour, 4 losses to Serena).

P.S. Also, last night I just realized how skinny Venus really is. Why do the media report on her like she is twice as big as the rest of the tour? Mauresomo, Serena, Davenport, and Capriati are all way bigger. I'm surprised Venus is able to generate so much power on her shots.

Excellent point. :)

I think it's a natural reaction for many Williams fans to switch their allegances from one Williams to another after some heart-breaking losses.

But if we have learned one thing about Venus and Serena, it's that they ALWAYS bounce back. I'm sure Venus after some rest and some tinkering with her serve and game, she will be aready to take that leap again from # 2 to #1.

After all, we Williams fans are the winners as we get to see them take a strangle hold on the GS titles.

GO WILLIAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I like Serena too, but I'm so disappointed. Last night I was very depressed over Venus' loss. However, after reading her interview and understanding that she hasn't been intense enough practically this whole year, I believe she will regroup and come out firing next year.

You're quite observant Dear :) Anyway, I will NEVER switch .. Win , lose, or draw I am a Venus fan to the end---NOTHING and no one can change that... "Some" people are just like a flag, they blow where ever the wind takes them

Venus' s problem is all mental as far as her housemate is concerned-- and no one can convince me otherwise:P

I have to say the crowd last night (I was there live) was very pro-Venus. There were plenty of Serena fans, but even before the match started, there were many more calls of "Venus" "V" etc.. As the match went on the crowd support for her grew even more intense to the point where I wondered if it was bothering Serena.

The non-fans just like to pour it on when they get a chance. I've ALWAYS preferred Serena, because she was the younger (like me), because I like her fiery ebullient personality better, and because I like her style of play more. But I was rooting for Venus last night, because I admired her effort in getting to the final, and the fact that she kept fighting last night, even though she was clearly getting overwhelmed.

Venus will always be my favorite, and I am 100% convinced that she will not allow anyone to monopolize the Grand Slams. She'll be winning them again soon enough.

Also, I noticed that the crowd last night seemed to be very much in Venus' corner. That made me feel good especially since I knew all along that Serena would win.

I love both Sisters. When Venus was crushing Serena, I still loved and rooted for her. Now that Venus is on the short end I will be loving and rooting for her. Congrats Lil Sis and come back strong Venus! :D

Well, my #1 fave is Venus followed by Serena. It always has been like that. I won't change the order just b/c Venus is on the short end of their rivalry right now. So, while I was happy for Serena, I was quite frustrated and depressed by venus's loss yesterday. Especially, considering the form she was in coming into the USO.

No matter; I am sure Venus will extinguish the disappointment of her fans next year. :bounce:

I've noticed that the Williams haters are now singing praises to Serena, part of their divide and conquer plan. They are now saying Venus should retire and will never be as great as Serena. Hoping this will cause a division in the support for the Williams. I'm happy for Serena, she has played well this year and thoroughly deserves her achievements. But to say Venus is no good and will always be second to her is just plain ludicrous. Venus just needs to work on her serve, that is her weakness right now. Even with her bad service game she is capable of beating the other players consistently, what does that says about them? Venus is my fav, followed by Serena. But I'm excited for Serena and I know Venus will bounce back. I hope other Williams supporters won't fall victim to this new ploy by the haters. Don't tear Venus apart because she is now losing to lil sis, she is still second best by far.

I'm  why the crowd would cheer for Momo against Venus, but cheer for Venus against her own sister! What hypocrites!

bec New Yorkers (i am one) ALWAYS root for the underdog. Momo was the underdog against Venus. last night Venus was the underdog against Serena. New Yorkers always try to get more TENNIS out of the players by rooting for the loser. understand that and move on.

and sorry to break up your nice conspiracy party but there are some of us who have always adored Serena but never liked Venus. not everyone is a "Williams" fan. in fact it's quite clear that most "Williams" fans are actually "Venus" fans which is why i never included myself among your lot.

go Serena!!!!!!!! keep dominating!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is not a new position. if any of your lot have read any of my posts you will know that i have always felt this way.

as for the whole splitting up thing. d'ya have any idea how pathetic you sound??????

Venus said something in 2000, that made me think, because I always felt so sad when she lost. Tennis is not life, It's just a game,Sure, it's good for your career if you win, but after the pictures & stories in the papers you go home to your real life. She's right. If someone in your family has cancer, winning a tennis match would not help them. I'm glad she has her head on right.

Momo was also the underdog when she played Jen, yet the crowd was firmly behind Jennifer in that match.

anyway, Venus has always been first with me. and she always will be. all she needs to beat Rena is to work on that serve, and get to the net more. :)

that is absolutely untrue. that was a close match and the crowd went back and forth. i know bec my half my family was there. New Yorkers always root for the CLEAR UNDERDOG. if it is not clear -- as in the Capriati-Momo match -- then fans tend to go back and forth.

don't mess with me when it comes to talking about New York fans. we are very consistent.

Venus was my fave before she ever won a slam. She'll be my fave if she never wins another. She's everything you'd want in a daughter, or a role model for one.

Venus has always been my favorite. From the first time I saw her play as a 14 year old in Oakland. And she will remain my fave, WIN OR LOSE.

Although I like both Venus and Serena, Venus is my favorite and she will always be my favorite over Serena or any other player.

I have not jumped off her bandwagon.

Go Queen V.

Venus will still be my favourite even if she gets her ass whopped by Serena all the time. I mean, if Venus had to lose to someone, might as well be Serena, so even if I'm a little upset, well, it's fine

Although I love both of them, I have always enjoyed watching Queen Vee more but i'm also very happy for Serena. What a year it has been for her:bounce:

Anyway go Williams Tennis Association:bounce:

I really admire Venus. What I would like to see her do is to stop trying to suport the WTA by over playing< 12 to 14 tournaments is enough for her.
That means she can be fresh & sharp, when she plays.
Please don"t play in Europe after Australia, maybe Tokyo, then go home rest & practice that second serve, work on some angles, & please move in. I don't think she likes it, but she needs to do more of that. I watched Sampras last night. if Venus could get a second serve like that, she woun"t be beaten.
The main difference between her & Serena is the 2nd serve & the angles.

I really love these posts. I've been out of sorts ever since the final, trying to figure out how to handle this Sista Slam Thang. I will always have V's back, come rain, shine or younger sisters.

Here's hoping Venus gets back to making her own schedule, doing what she knows is right for herself.

I'm a New Yorker, too, and not as polite as moon. Tennischick, you're full of shit. The fans were unnanimously behind Capriati in her quarterfinal with Mauresmo. Stop playing Devil's Adovocate because you fail abysmally each and every time. And don't act like members of this board (especially fans of the Williamses) aren't familiar with your shit stirring ways, seemingly your ONLY purpose of being here.

Yes, Miss Thing, I'm calling you out! :D
