With me not going to Wimbly for the 1st time since 2005, Ana will win it, and EASILY. :woohoo: GOAT!
The last time I saw Ana live was when she beat Dechy 10-8 in the 3rd and the whole net cord incident :weirdo:

The only way I see Ana defending her points from last year is if her draw consists of:

1r - Bye
2r - Bye twin

:o

Seriously though.. hopefully she will get someone random who hates grass who will give her the match.. :o

Thinking about it. I hope she draws Maria, then at least one of my girls will win a match this decade.

I have no expectations. Ana is in a bad place right now. With the sudden departure of her coach, there was surely some behind-the-scenes drama, in addition to her embarrassing collapses on court.

I've always been one of the most optimistic fans on this forum, but even I'm finding it difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Or perhaps two Italians in a row. Even "Disastrous, I lose five games in a row" Ana would find a way to win to preserve her record.

If everyone agrees with one name of this thread I will put it up. :)If You dont want to change whole Title, change at least that irritating SECOND ROUND to SECOND WEEK

We talking here about last season Wimbledon 1st seed IVANOVIC, not about qualifier IVANOVA. BTW Ana never lose 1st Round at Grand Slams and only Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams can be compared with her in that department - so why to panic even with all proofs that slump is still not over? Ana reach R16 in Paris last month and any her fan should not be happy with that, so why we should to count eventual Wimbledon R64 like success???

This is my post after Ana RG R16 lose:
Worst thing about Eastbourne is fact that this tournament is playing in week when Wimbledon Draw is Out so no chances for Ana to improve from current #13 place to #9-#12 seeds group, which means instead #5-#8 girls in 4th Round she will draw #1-#4 Seeds (Safina, Serena, Venus or Elena). Even if Zvonareva will not plays again, she will probably commit to draw, before final decision to withdraws... like she do it in Paris.

Ana should to ask WC for Birmingham, to reach TOP12 with QF (and than to tanked Eastbourne:devil:)... but she and her team is probably too "proud" for such tricky combination :p

Now I'm even more    on Ana's Team when notice that not only that she must play vs Grasscourt GOAT Venus in R16, but also #12 seed Bartoli is in weakest (ever!) Dementieva-Zvonareva quarter with rest of 29 players which never reach Wimbledon even R32 round

Ana couldn't play Birmingham.. not even if she wanted it.. It's an international event, and she has already played one (Brisbane). Top 10 players are only allowed to play 1 international event each 6 months, and Ana was still top 10 until the monday the Birmingham event started. Nothing she could do..

She could have drawn Dementieva or Safina.. but Ana has been SO unlucky that she got the toughest opponent. If she was 12 seed, with her luck, she would have got a hard draw too.. :sobbing:

Is it safe to say that defending all of her 3rd round points from last year would be a successful tournament for Ana at this point? :sobbing: 4th round would be nice for Ana. Ana is capable of beating anybody on any given day, but she is also capable of losing to anybody on any given day. I guess we will just have to take it match by match.

I like the draw for Ana because first off all there is no pressure on her and she is not expected to do well and even if she reaches fourth round, there will be even less pressure on her against Venus. And if you want to beat Venus at a grandslam you want to play her earrlier. It will be intereseting how Ana plays. Let's hope Cahill wakes her up from this year long nightmare!

It doesn't work like this.. and both Petrova and Radwanska made the quarters last year.

If it was like this, they would be creating seeds left and right. They have this season to deal just with 3 former #1 which is way under their star status... but courage which they shows to put Maria 35 places, they not show even close in Mauresmo and Ivanovic case. Wimbledon WTA Tournament is only GS event where some "Committee" has mandate to change official WTA rankings order for seeds (at ATP side it's clean formula)... but they use this year only in Sharapova case to improve her from 59 to #17-#24 seeds group.
I like the draw for Ana because first off all there is no pressure on her and she is not expected to do well and even if she reaches fourth round, there will be even less pressure on her against Venus. Let's hope Cahill wakes her up from this year long nightmare! You are right if this was Roland Garros, Australian Open or even US Open... but at Wimbledon is nothing good at all to face probably Womens grasscourt GOAT already in 4th round.
We talking about player which current 22 sets winning strike at Wimbledon still continue and which lose just one match here after 2004 (and she was so injured that day vs Jankovic in 2006 that she's played just two matches that year after Wimbledon (both in september).

This Ana Wimbledon draw really sucks.

Weren't we saying we wanted her to play a WIlliams sister asap because she seems to bring it against them? The draw is bad yes, but does the draw even matter at this point? If Ana comes in playing well and with confidence she will make the 4th round and probably give Venus a tough match. If she comes in playing like the Ana we've seen lately, well...here comes hardcourt season!

Look, if we can't be happy with Hradecka as first round, we can't be satisfied with ANY draw. Hradecka's no scrub, but she's more than beatable, or she wouldn't be ranked where she is. We must also consider that, regardless of Ana's 'lowly' ranking, she's still highly popular and would get placed on a big court (I hope/think/believe). A large stadium ALWAYS intimidates these lower ranked opponents.

Everything you said it`s true, but Venus on grass is just another level, like Rafa on RG
Grass is Venus best surface and Ana`s worst

Venus is also a bad match up for Ana, regardless of the surface. She hits hard and flat and has a great BH. If Venus has one of her off days, like that horrible match against Szavay in RG.. than it's posible. But still.. Ana would have to get there first.. and she has tough opponents before, like Dokic/Stosur. So she might even not be able to face Venus.. :sobbing:

I'm mostly thinking about the first round now.. Hradecka has a good serve and is a ballbasher according to reports.. so Ana needs to be alert from the very beginning. She has to keep her perfect 1st round slam matches record intact! :sobbing:

Birmingham is more than 6 months after Brisbane.

BTW I'm also    on Wimbledon Committee which (with reason!) improve former #1 Sharapova Draw status for 35 spots (from unseeded #59 to #24 seed), but dont want former #1 Mauresmo (2006 Champion) and Ivanovic (2007 Semifinalist) for just one place which will be enough to improve their status to better group-seeds (#17 Mauresmo from 17-24 to 13-16 and #13 Ivanovic from 13-16 to 9-12)

What walk-over? Bammer was not top 25 in IW.. Ana's wins were over Pennetta and AMG. But one was in Fed Cup.

I think Ana's second round should be easier than the first.. Errani and Dubois are not good at all on grass. But she has to get past the first round, which could pose problems.. I really hope the can start out strong! :sobbing:

I saw Stosur playing Wozniacki at Eastbourne, and she sucked for most of it.. she has a long backswing which doesn't suit grass. Her serve is a big weapon, but it was completely off that day. Couldn't buy a first serve and she was very erractic. She did take a set out off Caro, and that's enough to beat Ana these days, since she can't win a 3 setter to save her life... :sobbing: I don't know how Dokic will be, she hasn't played since injuring her back against Lena D. at RG.

I was thinking.. right now all Ana needed is to get some good results so she could get confident. I'm sure if she was in the third quarter and made the semis, even without beating any grass goats, she would turn something on inside, get more confident.. But all she gets are really tough draws.. It's so hard this way.. she loses early and instead of improving her mental game, it only suffers from another disappointment. Can't she get a break and have some luck? :sobbing:

I really want someday to see Ana winning a slam with a super hard draw.. but these days I just want to see her win.. :sobbing:

Well, let's look at it positively. I know nothing about Hradecka so I can't comment, but the 2r should be comfortable, even for Ana on grass, then the 3r you could have either Stosur, who just dumped her coach, or Dokic who has had personal problems in the past couple of weeks. (Maybe Mattek, but she doesn't bother me as much as those two) It's not the nightmare draw we were fearing at least.

Very few scenarios can I see her getting past the 4r though, and they all involve Venus somehow getting injured. But have faith!

The best thing about sports is there is always another chance to do it all over again, and forget about the last one. Here we go again:bounce:, new tournament, new draw, and new hope for Ana to show us something!

At the beginning of this years baseball season, everyone was picking the Chicago Cubs to be the best in the National League.:help: As bad as Ana's slump has been, believe me when i say that the Cubs have been in a slump every bit as awful as Ana's. Through this past wednesday, things couldnt be more disapointing in 2009. Injuries, total crap play, lack of offense, lack of confidence, lack of anything to convince a fan its going to get better.
In my whole lifetime as a fan of this team, the determination ive seen yesterday and today are one of the greatest things ive ever seen in sports. These two wins the last two days remind me of Ana beating Petrova and Vaidisova back to back at 2007 Wimbledon after trailing late in the matches.
Thursday- Heading into the the bottom of the eighth and getting very late, they were down 5 to 1, before pulling off a walkoff win
http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/5995/thursday.jpg

Today- They were down 7 to nothing through 4 innings and facing a pitcher that won the most prestigious pitching award last season. Not the best way to follow up on the dramatic win from the day before.:help: But they never gave up.

Now that i've thought about it a bit more, while being drawn in the toughest quarter is a little sucky, playing Venus in the 4th round might be the best thing to happen to Ana and could kick her arse back into action. (speaking hypotetically, she's no cert to make it that far) It would be the first time in 2-3 yrs Ana could go into a match with absolutley zero expectations on her, who seriously is going to expect Ana to roll Venus? Without the pressure and expectations we might see a return of fearless Ana circa 07/08. I hope...

I've also noticed in most of the pre-Wimby write ups ive read, Ana hardly gets a mention anymore. The pressure is starting to relax & the expectations are non-existent. Finally. :worship:

I think so yes.. I remember reading that they would review the rankings right before Wimbledon. But Ana hates mickey mouse tournaments.. so unfortunately I think she won't be playing the international level events..

Maybe the Mickey Mouse YEC will give Ana a wild card?:shrug: They can give out 2!

Yes.. I think she will only play on Center Court if she makes it to the 4th round..

Ana has a new diary up.. this is the part that concerns tennis and Wimbledon:

I practised with Svetlana Kuznetsova yesterday and now Iím just looking forward to getting onto the court and competing. I donít know much about my first round opponent Lucie Hradecka, but my coaches will watch her practice and give me some advice on how she plays.

Itís always good to have some idea about your opponentís style of play, but at the same time you should focus more on your own game: if I can play aggressively and impose my game onto my opponent, I have a good chance.

I hope they have already discussed tactics by now.. And that Ana doesn't go into brainless mode early on.. she needs to have a good start.

I like that she practiced with Kuzzy, as I had said before. It's good for her now to practice with other players, rather than only hitting partners.. she can get a better match feeling in practice.

I don't think so! Just think about how aggressive she played prior to her slump! The only reason why she plays so passive at times is her total lack of confidence! But on MP she just went for it:drool:

Also she needs to thank Lucie for having a meltdown in the 2nd, it was a real freefall. I was surprised she actually fought in the 3rd, but nowadays girls just know that you just need to hang in there with Ivanović and you've got more than a half of a chance to win.

Maybe Wimbledon won't be great, but at least get to the 3rd round.
I'm always so tough and can watch her matches through the end.
This time I shutdown the livestream at 5-7 6-2 1-2 15-30.
I really couldn't watch anymore. I saw it all happening again. Radwanska and Petrova right before my eyes is really enough.
I just asked Isa to give me the score afterwards.

Now I know what I missed, but I'm not sure I could survive that.
Dexter didn't want to watch RG 2008 final. This day I had that same feeling.

So proud that Ana still made it.
The nerves and the lack of confidence almost killed her here.

I don`t remember when was the last time she was not nerves during the match :tape:She needs to gain some belief in herself so i`m hoping this match will help her a little bit
But also credits to this girl Lucie bc she served so well and hit the ball hard and flat which Ana doesn`t like
But Ana needs to stop being too passive and go for her shots,i don`t remember seeing any FH parallel and all those spins :help: :help:Spins are not good for the grass
On the other hand she hit some shots Lucie can`t only dream on doing. That BH smash, short FH diagonal with a lot of spin...
Grass is clearly not her surface but she needs to take it one match at the time =baby steps and slowly gain confidence
I think she cursed a few times during the match, not loudly but i could read from her lips :lol:

During Eastbourne i guess, funny video but they will probably remove it soon,so no point of posting it in videos thread

I've calmed down a bit.. so.. my thoughts on the match.

First of all, credits to Hradecka. She played out of her mind. The only point I thought she actually screwd up was that smash on BP in the middle of the second set.. apart from that, she was playing top notch tennis.. hitting some awesome serves, and great forehands and backhands. Both very flat and hard. She played better than other players who won today, to be honest..

Now on to Ana. She has absolutely no confidence. She was not going for her flat forehands, or flat backhands (less common, but she does hit them sometimes). She was also not coming to the net at the right moments.. aften she had a point won and Lucie would get to it and send a lob back.. instead of moving foward, she would just wait, let it drop and hit again. She should take more balls out of the air with drive volleys. Also.. often she reversed to completely pushing. Ana is a terrible pusher.. there are players who can win with this kind of game, who are great pushers.. Ana is not one of them.. her balls just land short and loopy, waiting for the opponent to crush. It happened a lot in this match, including Ana's first MP at *5-4. Ana's movement is just not good enough to embrace the pusher's game.. and today she looked especially slow to get to some shots.. I guess she is still trying to adapt to the grass, and has never been a great mover on the surface. She also made some stupid errors... but well, that's normal. The serve was good when she had the right toss... the thing is she had the bad toss at least twice a game.. :help: She needs serious work on that.. and I guess it's directly related to her nerves.. she once again looked nervous and lost at times, especially in the first set. When she started to pump herself up more with the idemos and ajdes, she actually looked to be more into the match to me. I don't care what the haters say, Ana needs to pump herself up... it's not abut the opponent, it's about herself.. to keep focused. She did have some nice points, like the last 2 games and that BH overhead in the first set.. that is an extremely hard shot to make.

Last.. There were many bad line calls in this match. And most against Ana. She needs to know how to block it, but she obviously still gets affected by it more often than not. That ball she hit at 30-15 *5-4 in the third did indeed look smack on the line.. it would set up double match point.. instead it was called out and she double faulted.

Ah! Next is Sara Errani, who is an italian.. Ana doesn't lose to italians, as we know it.. :p I think she will get at least one more win. I hope this match actually helps her though.. there had been quite a while that I had not seen Ana fight so hard.. a month ago she would have gone bonkers after missing the MP at *5-4 and lost the match 5-7. It was quite good to see she still has that fire in her. I hope her coaches uses this to make her get more conviction in herself, and also push her to play better next time.

Errani hasn't got a big serve or hard, flat strokes, so Ana should be ok.

When she got her toss right, her serve was amazing I thought, the best I've seen it in ages, unfortunately there were millions of awful tosses :o

About the next match... I hope she wins, but it was important to keep her 1st round streak alive... especially after having lost in Eastbourne in the 1st round...

Izzy as always :yeah:
We all know her movement on grass is not the best but today it had more to do with the fact that she was nerves.Like when you are afraid you freeze ,you legs don`t move and they are heavy :help:I saw her more that once hitting her legs bc she was not satisfied with the movement
I thought she served well,a few bad ball tosses as always but most of the time she served well imo maybe i`m wrong
And i also agree that she needs to pump herself up :worship::lol:
This match was hard for the first round match but she made it hard. When she broke in first set she should have held her serve and we wouldn`t have all this drama. This match also showed and i always knew that she has problems with ROS on grass
But in the end i`m very very happy she won no matter of the score bc i`m sick of all these unknown players who become famous defeating Ana :fiery::fiery:
Lucie smash in second set on BP :haha: even Ana was laughing

When she lost her serve while serving for the match,i think part of me died in that moment
When she was serving for the match the second time our commentator said `Ana please focus , play point by point `:lol:I was thinking the same thing

I think I need a cardeologist with me while watching Ana matches. She never makes it easy on your heart. Not a great match from Ana, but a win is a win and I am just happy she was able to pull through. :) She Good luck in the next round Ana!

Completely agreed Jelena!

She was so nervous.. I really don't know why she gets this nervous in matches.. it's not like it's the first time she has ever played Wimbledon.. And Ana does have some trouble returning.. sometimes she tries to take a full swing.. and most times all she needs to do is just block it back.

I was watching it with Ben.. we were going crazy with Ana.. shouting on msn, "ANA FOCUS!!"

I know:angel::lol: But it also exactly coincided with the lunch break, I'm not alone in my room so after the lunch break i had to stop the livestream. I kept a page on the scoreboard then, and while I was praying I tried to do it quietly but I think people thought I'm crazy, praying in front of an excel sheet:lol:

I watched with my bf first and second set and then he had to leave. He kept cursing Lucie and saying what`s with people playing out of their minds against Serbian players:lol:.When Lucie was serving second serve he always cheered for her to make DF and to tighten up on crucial point :lol:
