View Full Version : Was Injury To Blame For Venus' Loss?

Melbourne: Pulled hamstring
Paris: possible sore wrist
Wimbledon: sore shoudler
NYC: blistered and bandaged finger/hand
Venus is having too many injuries. This is more than Steffi Graf used to have. Hopefully Venus can be injury free in 2003. Serena played not nearly as many matches in 2002 so maybe Venus will play 13 or 14 events like Serena in 03 to try to stay uninjured and not play so much.

no, Venus showed poor form also against Chanda. The trainer confirmed that the blister had gotten better and that no other injuries were present. The "injury" to Venus's self-confidence against Serena is what is causing her to lose. Serena is in her head now and has MORE GAME. Venus has FEWER TOOLS to work with. She does not have every shot in the book like Serena. It's harder to get the job done when your opponent simply has more tools to work with.

I have to disagree. Did you see how Venus played against Amelie Mauresmo at the end of that match? I think something is going on with Venus that we dont know about fully. Also I really think Venus needs to distance herself from Serena. Serena obviously benefits from practising with Venus. VENUS PRACTISE SOME NEW STUFF AWAY FROM SERENA TO SURPRISE HER!!!

Venus is not one to use injuries as an excuse for losing a match.

Remember the cynics were saying last year that Serena was a

one slam wonder. After Serena re-dedicated herself at the end

of last year, we all see the results. Venus will do the same, I'm

Venus has simply injured her confidence facing Serena.:)

Venus must also benefit something from practicing with Serena. It's just that Serena is just far better than Venus in terms of talent and passion for the game.:) Even Richard knows what is coming.

The reason why Venus has lost in Miami, Paris, Wimbledon and New York is because of no other reason than one person:

Serena Williams.

That is the one and ONLY reason.

I'm glad to see that Venus can deal with her losses without making excuses unlike certain others .

Venus was beaten today, get over it and move on - I'm sure she will.

Venus has class. BTW is every Venus loss linked to an injury? Even if she was supposedly injured, in some matches you can just tell that injuy or not Venus was inevitably a goner

dear anton, GIVE ME A BRAEK!
People blame EVERY lose on injuries, what does that say on Venus? Think about it.

I didnt blame every loss on injury. I didnt see the Testud or Clijsters matches so I dont know why Venus lost those. And At the French Open when Babsi beat Venus I would not blame that on injury. Venus was not reach to play and Babsi was so Babsi took it to Venus with some agressive shots and Venus lost.

But if Venus leaves the court for treatment and/or is wearing bandages please admit the obvious. Serena even said Venus had shoulder problems in London. So Venus can lose but I think like Steffi Graf her losses sometimes are injury related like when STeffi lost to ASV in NY, she pulled a muscle in her back and that was painful to watch.

And saying when Venus loses it is due to injuries sometimes says that Venus is injury prone. I think venus knows this and this is why she doesn like to play a lot of tournmanets inpart.

Actually most tennis players are playing with one nagging injury or another. Martina Hingis has had TWO surgeries in the last year and you can be sure that she played with various injuries and in pain over the last couple of years. This can be said for many players. They just don't talk about every ache and pain.

Venus didnt say anything about her injuries in NY or Wimbledon. Serena talked about the london injury and Venus wearing tape in Oz and NY so...

And I am going to look at it this way: Venus was not playing well in NYC and STILL made it to the final beating other top players who were playing their best tennis. I think that is kind of sad for those other players; that Venus can beat them with her B game.

Venus never said her injuries were why she lost. On any given day any one can be beaten and she was beaten by the better player that day.

In the case of the US Open, she beat Amelie with a blister on her hand. She just wasn't good enough to beat Serena that day, blister or no blister.

I wanted Venus to win but I accept that Serena out played her. Venus never raised her level enough and although the level she played Serena at was good enough to beat Chand and Amelie, she needed to up it another notch or too to beat Serena.

Same as her other loses, those players that beat her out played her that day. :)
