Wow Marion & Ana will be unseeded for this tournament.
Anyway a good Marion can defeat anyone who doesn't have a great serve on grass which means that we shouldn't be afraid of Jankovic, Dementieva, Wozniacki etc. I just pray she finds her form. She hasn't had a good tournament since Stuttgart. In addition she has SF pts to defend.

i think this is decision time for marion in terms of her grass season - last year she made the SF in a year that wasn't so great form wise - is it crazy to think that if she finds form here she can win? I don't know but i'd love to see it!

Jankovic - Chakvetadze

The second round match for her is making me drool already. I'd love to see her beat both of those, and its a good chance for Marion to wallop Jelena again. Couldve done without Vika, but does anyone know how she is on grass? I dont know so im not sure what to expect.

Cannot wait for the next 3 weeks!! With my 2 favourite frenchies having great draws in their respective Wimby warmups, im looking forward to watching them so much. I think if Marion makes it past Vika she would beat anyone on Elena's side of the draw, but i know, i shouldnt be looking too far forward. Hard not to optimistic though, she looks great from the pictures. And if Jeremy plays as well as he can then he should win his tournie too!! :hearts:

The draw is looking really nice. I hope she doesn't blow this occasion of defending her points away. It's like in Montreal last year and she managed to do it. Once again Chak is on her way. It will definitely be a tougher challenge than JJ, for sure Chak knows how to play on grass. Marion certainly knows herself what to do to beat Anna. The good thing is Anna's serve is still shaky... Cmon!

It feels sooooo good to have Marion into QFs again!!!!! Very good win over Chak'! It was as tough as we could expect it to be, I'm particularly happy that she kept fighting to steal this first set from Anna. I would have been afraid of a three set match. It could even have been easier in the second set so we have all the reasons to be happy about that one. Except one... a poster wrote in GM that Marion took an injury time-out in the 2nd set to have her foot "checked & rebandaged". He said she looked fine afterwards. Phew.

It should be a shame if she's not at 100% because she is proving she is among the most dangerous players on grass.

Another top 20 for Marion as she defeated Medina 61 64 :yeah:. Many close games on Anabel's serve whereas Marion had little problems on her serve. There was just a scary moment when she was down 23 0/30. This was after she failed to consolidate her break. I really feared that she would let her opponent take control of the match just like in Indian Wells against Peer. Both are big fighters who just put the ball in play. This time Marion made the effort to finish the match.

Now Marion into semies with a big opportunity of getting to another prestigious final (and win the title)!

Explanations here : http://www.lequipe.fr/Tennis/breves2009/20090619_171217_bartoli-s-explique.html

Marion seems very pessimistic for Wimbledon. She will take a decision tomorrow.

Iceland
Jun 19th, 2009, 05:26 PM
Just loved Marion's reaction at Virginie standing up right in front if her . She made her look so dumb!

I don't know if we should really be that concerned about her injury. She didn't fall today, it was already before the match begins and she could play quite decently. Or did it happen during? I left to have lunch at that time actually.
Marion loves the drama so perhaps it's not as bad as she thinks. She did it soooooo many times already (this I can't move at all thing).

We'll see tomorrow.

"If it is a strain then there is not much chance I can play next week," said Bartoli, who has been seeded 12th for next week's Wimbledon championships.

"The doctors can't yet say what the diagnosis is because it is too soon after my retirement so I need to wait until tomorrow and see," added Bartoli, before leaving a news conference in tears.

 Lets hope this'll turn out the same way the scare before the Aussie Open did.

Well we have to admit that Marion has really a super strong personality. She can't be a hypocrit. I give her credit for that but she should care about her image a little bit more if she wants to have support.

Yes, it's totally that. They just jumped on the occasion. Anyway what's so wrong about this story? She didn't shake her hand. Period.

also this

7-5 6-1 :worship:

So proud of Marion, Timea was just playing incredible tennis at the beginning of the first set until Marion got into her head by audaciously being way inside the baseline to return. Contrary to other girls who just try to intimidate their opponents, she did put all those returns in and they were just too good. She didn't lose the momentum since then. The 2nd set was just Marion Bartoli at her best on grass, serving so well and putting all the pressure on return.
Allez Marion, allez!!

She will play Francesca. Quite a difficult match, her short angles, net skills and slice could definitely be a problem from Marion. I'm still confident now that Baba has beaten her in Dubaï.

TomorroW Marion is going to face Italian Francesca Schiavone, who has beaten Wozniak and shouting Michelle Larcher De Brito. Bartoli has had a very succesfull preparation for Wimbledon. She reached Eastbourne's semifinals (defeated Dulko (L) Chakvetadze and Garrigues). She will fight to win against the Italian ,who has defeated Baba in 3 times but the last meeting in Dubai this year was not the same history(Bartoli won 7-6 3-6 6-3).

i hope Bartoli win! and return to Wimbledon's finals instances. :D

Im so shocked. Marion will never be into top 10 again if she keeps on wasting those good draws. She doesn't believe in herself, Im so mad that she gave up in the second set. Fran was beatable today. She has to stop playing so far from the baseline, she plays her best tennis when she is inside and taking the ball early. Never attempted it. There was pretty good stuff in that 1st set, it should have been a safe basis for the rest of the match and she just made the dumbest decisions at the wrong time.

I guess it's safe to say that hard courts suit her game the better. She is so useless on those slices.

Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic. Such a great oppurtunity to get back into top 10, thrown away with a disgusting tank. Huge points to deliver in the coming weeks. She wont emulate Stanford. Unless she gets her fucking act together of course, today was horrible. I don think shes as good on grass as we all think she is, she cant handle the spin and pushing

What annoys and upsets me the most is her attitude in the 2nd set. It hurts more then the loss itself.

I'm so sick of this little Bitch tank attitude when it doesn't go right. Problem is, she is far too one-dimensional. When the attacking game is fucked, so is she. She is not quick or fit enough to start defending. She isn't good enough to start rushing to the net either. It never use to be this way. She did posses self-belief and fighting spirit. She never gave up like this before

Very classy words from Marion to Francesca, she basically said Fran was the best today, that she didn't have any excuses except that she was too good. She felt short physically in the second set and didn't feel like having enough weapons to fight overall.
For me it comes from the fact that she stands too far from the baseline. It totally neutralized her possibilities of being aggressive down the line. Hope she realizes it soon. When you hit it flat, you need to take it early to be good.

Marionated
Jun 26th, 2009, 09:00 PM
Her record in mandatory events is truly horrific this year. I guess she can gain a lot of points in them this year. I really hope she can win at least 1 premier event. Her career is full of wasted opportunities

Nice words, but not true imo. Marion messed up the first set, didn't care in the second, like against Mattek last year. Or maybe she didn't feel physically maybe. If that's the case, I hope she doesn't look back in a few years time and ask herself what could she have done if she were fitter.

I was there yesterday although could hardly see a thing because the court was packed solid. NOBODY was leaving the match. I was disappointed as that was one of the main matches I went to see (at least I did see some of it just not in a good position) but even more disappointing is the outcome. 2nd year in a row exiting the 3rd round, and to Schiavone of all people. Very frustrating and sickening loss to say the least.

Thanks  It was horrible not even being in full view of what was going on either, so I couldn't tell how well/bad she was playing. I also was hoping to get a pic with Marion and say hi and everything, but it wouldn't have been right to do that after she lost. So until next year...

Muchachos Marionettes,I'm really at a loss here...losing to Schiavone on GRASS...like THAT...is embarrassing.Schiavone has sucked on grass her entire career, the kind of player who loses to local teenage wildcards,6-1 6-1.She dID make the semis at Mickey Mouse Ordina Open recently...but that was against weak competition.Even at her best, she was handled in the semis by Yanina Wickmayer...who isn't even a Top 50 player. From the reports of reliable Marion fans, our girl simply quit in the 2nd set...and THAT'S hard to accept also.I can tolerate losing IF someone has tried their best;my fav baseball team has a record of 21-51,the worst in MLB by a country mile---and they've never even been to the World Series in their entire existence(1969-present)---so I'm not a front runner. However,I expect much more FIGHT from Marion and can't figure out why she'd simply roll over vs. such a poor grass-court player....I'm on a quest for optimism here so any help would be appreciated:help::help::help:

Fran also defeated Virginie. She won 4 tie break in a row. She's really solid. Marion said that she played against a wall. Of course, we are disappointed, but Marion won't be the only one to defend points on summer American tournaments (Domi,..). Her 17th and her 18th result are 120 and 110 pts. So, she has still margins if Stanford and Toronto are not successfull. Don't worry, her level of play was really good, except 2nd set vs Fran. And she knows it. I'm sure she isn't too disappointed. And ready to fight again.

Looking at the draw, I think she should be disappointed. Virgine, then Elena. Btw, Stanford is a much tougher field this year. She won't be lucky enough this year to play the likes of Anna C and Ai in the later rounds. She needs to start performing in the higher premier events. Indian wells and Miami were both major letdowns. Cincinatti is really important this year.
