Jun 2nd, 2009, 01:25 PM
Starting 8th June.

Maria says on her website that she is travelling today (June 2nd) to England.

As I hope to be attending - although that might not be possible - I thought I'd take this chance to start a tournament thread for the 1st time.

Got to disagree with Warrior. Surely it's not 250pts from Barcelona? It was only a Tier IV. Some good performances on grass could gain her some ranking points, particularly at Wimbledon.

Suppose I would say that since I intend going. However the weather forecast is so bad it could be a frustrating week.

Maria broken for 3-6 2nd set. :( The match was 1 hour 6 minutes long.

Hopefully Maria will play doubles in Eastbourne with someone who isn't a clay court specialist.

Nikkiri
Jun 8th, 2009, 05:17 PM
Not shocked or disappointed anymore. She needs a coach and badly. She can't play on grass... not sure why but she isn't just gonna pick it up without a proper coach, least the grass season isn't a long one. We will be back sucking on hard courts soon enough.

Exactly how I feel, too.

Losing both the four first and four last games of the match... it seems this was a pretty easy win for Urszula.

Maria needs to do something soon, if she doesn't want to just fade into the shadows.

I don't understand why Maria won't work with Sven and the Adidas program.. look what they did for players like Wozniacki and even Cirstea now. She needs to do something different. She obviously isn't the type of player who can go without a proper coach I really wish she'd see this.

only_one_maria
Jun 8th, 2009, 05:36 PM
Well, thank god I didn't go. Sounds pretty similar to the Dushivena match at Wimbledon last year. A routine defeat. Only positive thing I can think of is that maybe these sorts of results will 'shock' Maria into changing something (like getting a new coach?). She's going nowhere at the moment

Not much of a surprising result just a few minutes ago in Birmingham. I`m very disappointed that Makiri couldn`t make the match more competitive. I echo Dumbkiri`s sentiment on Makiri needing a real coach, because she`s absolutely clueless on the court right now with the exceptions of doubles.

I agree that Maria should take advantage of her Adidas relationship and work with Sven, Darren Cahill, and Gil Reyes. These guys are the best in the game, and their services are essentially free according to their press release:

"Fernando Verdasco, Caroline Wozniacki, Sania Mirza, Grigor Dimitrov, Laura Robson, Raluca Olaru and Sorana Cirstea are some of the players currently participating in the program, which does not replace their own personal trainers but instead gives them an extra helping hand to build a career. Over 30 additional players including Ana Ivanovic and Dinara Safina, have used this free service at various stages in the past three years."

Yep the Adidas program sounds perfect for Maria as she seems a bit stubborn about hiring and working with a full time coach.

That's exactly what i said after she left Van Harpen but she seems to prefer her "say davai after her double faults" 's "coach":help:
