A first round loss means 2 points right? I think that wouldn't be enough to improve Ana's ranking numbers. She still has 2 points from Moscow as her 16th best result.

A week after RG or earlier

DAVAJ MKirilenko

First round loss is 1 point. She got 2 from Moscow cause all points from last year were doubled.

At least she's not unseeded for all tournaments till US Open. Wimbledon has gladly more than 8 seeds.
Including the US Open she has only 420 points to defend from now on.

Btw, here's how the rankings look when I take all point off untill/including US Open.

01. Safina...... 6281
02. Zvonareva... 4920
03. V. Williams. 4537
04. Jankovic.... 4370
05. Dementieva.. 4285
06. S. Williams. 4108
07. Kuznetsova.. 3793
08. Azarenka.... 3761
09. Wozniacki... 3320
10. Ana......... 2754

Worst thing about Eastbourne is fact that this tournament is playing in week when Wimbledon Draw is Out so no chances for Ana to improve from current #13 place to #9-#12 seeds group, which means instead #5-#8 girls in 4th Round she will draw #1-#4 Seeds (Safina, Serena, Venus or [j]Elena). Even if Zvonareva will not plays again, she will probably commit to draw, before final decision to withdraws... like she do it in Paris.

Ana should to ask WC for Birmingham, to reach TOP12 with QF (and than to tanked Eastbourne:devil:)... but she and her team is probably too "proud" for such tricky combination :p

 I hope she will, it depends on the draw, is she has normal opponents in the first 3 rounds (not Sharapova, etc.) then she could do it. If she draws Safina or Elena she could pull the upset, Venus or Serena, well just no:tape::lol::help:

It`s not like she has a chance against them but stillActually I'm talking about how to escape this scenario - not how to survive. My point is that if she ask for Birmingham WC and reach at least QF (even #13 ranked she will be 1st seed), Ana will escape this 50% vs. Williams sisters in 4th Round scenario. Also all other potential 5-8 seeds opponents is better scenario for Round 16 than red-hot Safina (and injured Zvonareva 1/8 part of draw is potential jack-pot).

She is not going to do that so no need to discuss that
Her draw is the smallest problem here.Venus/Serena are far away ,we should hope she won`t face Tanasugarn or Jie Zheng in first rounds

There's also a large chance that Maria could be given a 5-8, 8-12, or 13-16 seed at Wimbledon that will bump Ana down one more place.

They can only move seeds. Which means that Maria at least has to go to rank 32 or so. Which ain't gonna happen.

I mean.. things can't get much worse.. so whatever comes is already a plus..:help::tape::)Well,it's SOOOO nice to finally see one of your posts w/o the tear-filled emoticons.I do my best to cheer you up when you're suffering from Ana-related sadness, but it never seems to work:o

As encouragement to EVERYone,I cite the example of Dinara who's more than 18 months older than Ana and had the benefit of growing up in a tennis family.Yet,until she got her new coach last year, she was GROSSLY falling short of her potential...with no end in sight.Even with Krajan on board,Dina still had a mental meltdown against Peer at Wimbledon;however, she has gradually become a player who often tends to come through in tough situations.

They are different gals with different internal mechanisms,of course but, basically,it should be easy to see that,if a former constant choker like Dinara can rise from the ashes,so to speak, then :hearts:Sweet Ana:hearts:--hypothetically at least--can do the same:cool:

Coyote or Elmer Fudd...just disgraceful.Dinara's future is on the same track as Pennetta's or Schnyder's:2nd-rate players who will NEVER win a Slam unless they're lucky enough to get a bunch of injury defaults....She may as well retire now and marry Evgeni Malkin or any other Russian hockey star who'll have her:rolleyes:

It seems that Ana is thinking about playing doubles in Eastbourne. Wozniacki says in her latest blog that Sven called her asking if she wanted to play double with Ana, but she had to say no since her docs advised her to take it easy after her recent injuries.

I'm sure there are other girls that will be willing to play with Ana, and I think it is a good idea. The doubles can give her match play, help her with her net game, with her serve. I hope Ana really does play doubles in Eastbourne.

I also though.. "hey? Wozniacki of all people?" But I guess Ana got in contact with Sven, saying she wanted to play doubles, he sugested Caro and Ana agreed. I'm speculating though..

She will play doubles everywhere if it's possible. Even so much that it is really hurting her singles career.
I'm sure it doesn't matter at all that Maria is on the qualies list now.

Well.. Being a seed, no matter which seed, she won't face any sedeed player in the first 2 rounds. So that doesn't really change with the drop in the rankings... She needs to have some luck and avoid floters like Sharapova or Dokic early on.

June 08, 2009 / Eastbourne

Ana will play doubles at the AEGON International in Eastbourne, which begins on Sunday.

The 21-year-old, who played just one doubles match on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour last year, has been offered a wild card into the doubles draw. She will compete alongside Germany's Sabine Lisicki.

Ana enjoyed a career-high doubles ranking of No.50 in September 2006, after having played several tournaments alongside Russian Maria Kirilenko.

How did she manage to get to the SF in 2007?I recall she beat Vaidisova in the QF... Actually there aren't many players who play well on grass, so with a bit of luck if she's playing decent she could do pretty good. Of course if she meets Williams or Sharapova it's over:rolleyes:

Nowak was down 2:5 0:40 in second set and won the set 7-5 :tape:
But he has all sorts of troubles bc it`s clear he isn`t used to play on grass after so many months on clay
He can`t hit a flat FH even if his life depended on it :tape:
I wonder how will Ana adapt on grass, please Ana don`t lose in first rounds

Novak saved 5 MPS! He is winning this now on sheer will and determination. I wish Ana could learn a bit from this.. :sobbing:

Ana can and will be hitting flat shots.. her issues are different than Novak's. She has to keep low to the ball so her flat shots won't be going to the stands.. And get some consitency and placement in her serve. But I'll go on board and say.. "please Ana, don't lose in the first round.." :sobbing:

From the 4th round on, she was winning on mental strength and determination. She took out Petrova in a rain delayed match coming from a break down in the third. Then saved MPs against Vaidisova. Unfortunately, Ana seems to have lost that mental edge that got her some many "exciting" wins in 2007.

But I agree.. if she avoids the Williams, Sharapova, Dokic.. in the early rounds.. and plays decent, she could reach a QF. That would be too much to ask though... :sobbing: And.. as the 13h seed Ana has 50% of chance of getting a Williams in the 4th round.. :sobbing:

I think last year's Wimbledon can not really be considered a sample of Ana's grass court game. She wasn't there emotionally since the beginning and whatever energy she had was drained in the match against Dechy.. also all her luck went away with that net cord. :sobbing: The match against Zheng was just.. :help:

I want to watch her play! :sobbing: Last year I had her on TV for her 3 matches.. this year I think I'll only be watching her on TV if she miraculously reaches a QF.. or if her 4th round is against one of the Williams, which I kind of would rather not..

Sharapova doesn't need to use her protected rankings, as her actual ranking is enough for her to get into tournaments. And there is no such thing as protected seeding. So even if she was unranked and used her protected ranking of world number 4, she would still be unseeded in the tournament. The protected ranking is used with the only purpose of entry in tournaments.

Yes.. all this is just.. I don't think anyone could have tought it could happen. And I don't think Ana got any fans in this 1 year time period..:sobbing: But we all that saw her before, playing with so much style and being fearless, we are trapped.. :sobbing: I just read something in Tennis Magazine that got me depressed.. :sobbing:

Ana Ivanovic
In February, Ivanovic hired Craig Kardon as her full-time coach. After losing in the fourth round of the French Open, she dumped him, raising new doubts about the direction of her game. No one thought Ivanovic would become the dominant player on the tour (her game has too many holes for that). But her decline since winning last year’s French Open has been surprisingly steep for a woman of such talent. Ivanovic takes a lot of risks (flat strokes and lots of angles) and one can’t play that style of tennis without conviction. She’ll be working with team Adidas again, which (under Sven Groeneveld’s guidance) helped her win her first major. It might be a while before she wins a second one. Perhaps Kuznetsova can give her some encouragement.
Prediction: She wins the Australian Open in 2011.

yes she's been very unlucky with injuries that came at the wrong times... but players have to deal with that, see what happened to Sharapova and how she was able to rebound right away... Ana needs to be stronger and be able to face challenges... there will always be problems, the key is to overcome them, not be perfect all the time, that's not going to happen:o

I think and hope in her career she'll win another RG and an AO... three slams would be great actually, see a player like Davenport who won only 3.... Wimbledon and US open i don't know, even though she played great on US fast hardcourts in 2006 and 2007, but when it comes to Williams/Sharapova... I don't think she can beat them there.

Seeing that they split now, it was going to happen anyway, even if they waited until after grass. If Kardon is some kind of grass magician, and Ana did have success on grass with him as her coach, then how awkward would it be to fire him at that point? It might have made more sense to fire him now.
It seems safe to say that someone(Ana, or the team, or who knows..) didnt feel the relationship was working out. Personally, i see no sense keeping him around if that is true, just for 2 events. If a partnership isnt working, then its probably time to move on.
Ana went through this looking for a coach already this year. For all anyone knows, she might have had some other potential coaches then besides Kardon. We can only wait and see, but its possible she'll have someone new sooner than it seems.

This is what i said before
And i`m not blaming Sven and adidas team here.Ana just can`t show up whenever she wants and expect that they have time for her
This will be just like AO,she will practice a few days with Sven so they can say well she had a preparation before Wimbledon :help::help:
And having Craig for 2-3 more weeks is a better solution bc losing in 3R or 4R is better than losing in 1,2R.Especially when we know Ana`s confidence isn`t high
Her team and their decisions are really :hearts::hearts: I`m so trilled with them right now.:fiery::fiery:
Ana is still a kid and she obviously lacs confidence and what did they do?Left her without a coach a few weeks before GS.I`m sure another early exit will do wonders for Ana`s confidence :tape:

Well I'm not hoping for Ana to win a match with this brutal draw really :rolls: Might as well just play two matches on grass and go straight to Wimby. :weirdo:

My goals for Ana against Petrova:
- Break Petrova's serve at least once
- Serve at least 2 aces and fewer than 2 DFs
- Avoid undesirable visits to Nadia's Bakery Eastbourne Branch, which I believe is out of business
- Have fewer than 5 stupid approaches to the net
- Have a positive winner-UE differential
- Smile :)

I hope Ana can do this and I'll be happy (yeah right)

Well I'm not hoping for Ana to win a match with this brutal draw really :rolls: Might as well just play two matches on grass and go straight to Wimby. :weirdo:

My goals for Ana against Petrova:
- Break Petrova's serve at least once
- Serve at least 2 aces and fewer than 2 DFs
- Avoid undesirable visits to Nadia's Bakery Eastbourne Branch, which I believe is out of business
- Have fewer than 5 stupid approaches to the net
- Have a positive winner-UE differential
- Smile :)

I hope Ana can do this and I'll be happy (yeah right)
You know, that sounds like a plan. Kind of like the baby steps I was talking about!

Of course she will smile and she will probably say around 100 times in the interviews that she's excited about a couple of things.

Hi! Welcome to the forum. :D

What made you like Ana during all this slump?:sobbing:

Well.. I think with Ana is all about match ups.. and Petrova hits hard and has a great serve.. which should help her a lot on grass. But well.. if Ana was playing well I would definitely not be worried.. the thing is.. she isn't.. :sobbing:
Thanks. :wavey:
Haha good question, Im not too sure, you would have more of a clue than me.
I guess her dodgy ball toss, lop sided mess Adidas called an outfit, the unpredictable form and her hunched fistpumps rolled into ajde's converted me. :p
:cuckoo: Heh crazy i know, i wonder how long i can handle insane Ana.

You guys seem to be handling it alright, i think.

I really hope that Ana can win against Nadia, but it will be pretty damn tough!

She always smiles:lol:
I actually don't care about how often she approaches the net I just want her to use her brain when doing it:help:

i don't think Ana could have asked for a better draw.Petrova seems like the most vulnerable of the seeds even though i understand she's good at grass.I was hopin for an azarenka rematch though but now that seems unlikely.

I completely agree. I look forward to Ana's first match.

Yay it's the perfect draw that Ana needs. I agree Petrova is vulnerable, but she is a big name ;) If Ana beats her she will gain confidence regardless if Petrova was playing good or was a UE machine. A couple of big wins and she will be back on track

i like your optimism, but i doubt that's going to happen:sobbing: But I guess we are used to losing now so it's ok:o

Yea we are used to it :sobbing: maybe she will fall out of top 50:ignore: and we won't be able to expect wins even in qualies :tape::help::sad:

its hard to believe shes ranked 13 to be honest.:spit: I mean, 3R, 2R, 3R, 4R, plus Linz and a final at Indian Wells, thats all it takes to be the #13? Ana can at least put up those results over the next year.

yes i also think she should be able to go into top 10 or close even in crappy form... problem is if she has this kind of luck when she's unseeded she's not going to get many more points:o

OMG that I hope not, even if she's being crap since 1 year she is still top 20, she's still a fighter so she won't be tanking matches like Vaidisova:o
