Definitely not Diana Marcu... She has the typical junior game. Just consistent, not any weapons.

I think Marcu would be a better addition than Iova, Hristea, or Ivan, who are all going nowhere fast.

I trust you, I haven't seen her play. What about Ilinca Stoica, who has improving junior results and who is only 15.5 years old. Has anyone seen her play?

^ I don't remember that. I wouldn't have laughed  Just need to get some of those juniors into the Top 200.

Anyway, Iasi proved to be a breakout tournament for many young players.

Gojnea, a former, Top 20 junior, won.
16-year-old Ilinca Stoica got to her first ITF final. She still needs two more tournament wins to be ranked, but this is a great start.
17-year-old Bianca Hincu got the semis (beaten by Gojnea). She's now ranked #833.
16-year-old Sabina Lupu got to the other semis. She's now ranked #1008.

All made In the News... on the G&R Watch. :)

Let's see how far they go this summer.

Interview with Elena Platon
link (http://www.opentenis.ro/profile/raluca-elena-platon.html)
Birthdate: 11/june/1993
Birthplace: Bucharest
Height: 1.70 m
Weight: 59 kg
Coach: Ilie Codrin
Right hand player, two-handed backhand

Open Tennis: For how long do you play tennis?
Raluca Platon: I practice tennis for 12 years now and I train at Tennis Club Bucuresti.

Open Tennis: If it wouldn't have been tennis, it would have been another sport?
Raluca Platon: So far I haven't thought about practicing other sports, but I think I would have chosen swimming.

Open Tennis: Did you had moments when you wanted to quit?
Raluca Platon: Yes, such moments are in everyone's career, but I passed over them, because I had the unconditional support of my parents and my coach.

Open Tennis: How many hours do you train per day?
Raluca Platon: I usually train 5 hours a day, including the physical training. If I don't participate in a tournament that week, Sunday is my day off, otherwise I train about one and a half hours

Open Tennis: What is your favorite shot?
Raluca Platon: The forehand is my favorite shot.

Open Tennis: What is your favorite male/female player?
Raluca Plato: My favorite (male) player is Roger Federer and my favorite (female) player is Serena Williams from America.

Open Tennis: Your hardest match so far?
Raluca Platon: My hardest macth so far was last year against Barbara Bonic from Serbia, I def. her with the score: 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. It was my best match of the season. I also played a tough match against Martina Di Giuseppe from Italy, in the quartes of a 10k tournament in Spain, the score was 7-5, 5-7, 6-1.

Open Tennis: Against whom would you like to play a tennis match (not necessarily a tennis player)? Why?
Raluca Platon: I would love to have Serena Williams on the other side of the net. I appreciate mostly her fighting spirit, but also I love the aggressiveness and the wickedness of her ground strokes. Also, I like Justine Henin, because she's a clever player and she "thinks" every point.

Open Tennis: How would you describe yourself in a few words?
Raluca Platon: Ambitious, dreamy and sometimes a bit grumpy.

Open Tennis: How would you describe the sport of tennis in a few words?
Raluca Plato: Clearly, tennis is a very difficult sport, you have to work very hard to get good results, but it's also very beautiful at times, especially when you win, then you feel that everyone falls at her feet.

Open Tennis: Do you keep a certain diet before major tournaments and or do you have a steady diet?
Raluca Platon: Usually, I try to avoid fast foods and fizzy drinks because I became dependent on them. I try to eat pasta, fruits, salads, even chocolate, but I don't exaggerate with it.

Open Tennis: How do you spend your free time?
Raluca Platon: I stay with my friends, I like to surf on the internet, I read a lot. I'm not a person who goes out to much, I prefere to stay [home] with my parents, or with my friends.

Open Tennis: What superstitions do you have?
Platon Raluca: I don't step on the lines after I finish the point, I always play with the same ball if I win the previous point. I also have a ritual that I respect throughout the tournament, until I lose...

Open Tennis: How many raquest have you broken so far?
Raluca Platon: I've broken one racquet in my life, an it happened this year, in a decisive set that played against Laura Andrei, we were 5 games all and I lost that match.

Open Tennis: What do you want to say to our readers?
Raluca Platon: I want to thank them for their support and I hope that from now on even more of them will come to our tournaments.

Sad news for Ingrid Radu, she might not be able to play at the AO, due to lack of money. The Romanian Federation doesn't (want to?) pay for her expenses so in order to play at the AO, she must raise EU 5k until friday (Januray 8th). Just wondering if Dinu is in the same position because she will not be at the AO...

Here's a video about Ingrid's situation
TU3w5Eu_2IQ

translation...
TV host: the only romanian junior who was accepted at the AO might stay home. The lack of money is destroying the hopes of one of the best young romanian sportswomam, and we're not talking about alot of money...
Ingrid: I like it alot (to play tennis), this is what I want to do in my life, I mean this is my job.
Reporter: But still, if i understand correctly, there are difficulties...
Ingrid: Yes... there are some difficulties...
Reporter: Like what?
Ingrid: (cries) ...wait a moment...
Reporter: These are tears of despair and helplessness. Due to her performences and to her ranking, Alexandra was invated to play at the AO. The only romanian junior. At the moment she can't go, she can't represent Romania because she's missing 5k euros. These could mean nothing for some players but for our junior this means a fortune. Alexandra's parents can't afford to pay for her trip to Australia. They both work, but 5k is to much for them. They live in a studio apartment in Craiova. Her coach is the one who supports her financially, but even for him it's impossible to find such a big amount of money. Her mother: Maybe somebody could help us so we can keep fighting... All the trophies and cups won by Alexandra did not fit into the tiny studio where she lives with together her parents, at her coach's house a showcase is filled with trophies won by her until now. Authorities turn a blind eye when it comes to Alexandra, it's like they don't want to be represanted by the best junior of the moment.
Her coach: We approached the federation, but they said they can not financially support her trip.
Reporter: On januray the 7th, Alexandra should leave for Australia.
Ingrid: I hope to became a good player, to reach Top20, and to do that I need lots of money to play many tounements.
TV host: We can't neglect such a case, so we invate you to help Alexandra so she can carry the romanian tricolour at the AO. My colleague, Alexandra Petrita, is live and she will tell us how we can do that. Alexandra, good evening
TV reporter: Good evening, you can contact Alexandra's coach, the one who's trying to gather 5k euros so the player can leave for Australia on friday. Also our e-mail and our phone number will be at your disposal. This is a matter of national pride or shame, because according to her value she should be there but we are ashamed because she might not play because of 5k euros, it would be a pitty if this would happen so we invate you to show our solidarity

an interview with her coach

source (http://www.sport365.ro/Constantin_Stanescu___Ingrid_Radu_isi_propune_sa_c astige_Australian_Open_la_juniori_-n129043.html)
Although she was not helped by the Romanian Tennis Federation, Ingrid Radu got the financial resources and will play at the Australian Open. Constantin Stanescu, Ingrid's coach, announced that the player will go to Australia to win the competition.

Reporter: Why do you think the Romanian Tennis Federation didn't help Ingrid?
Constantin Stanescu: Because of lack of money they help a very small number of athletes. I rejoice when I hear that an athlete is helped, because I know how much he/she worked to get there. I go on the principle "help yourself" and in this way I try to solve many problems, but when I get a little support it's like celebration for me!

Reporter: How did the Dan Voiculescu Foundation step in?
Constantin Stanescu: Following Antena 1's report, it emerged that Mr. Dan Voiculescu's Foundation will bear the full costs. I didn't hear the news at the end of the jurnal, others called me and told me.

Reporter: What Ingrid plans to achieve at AO?
Constantin Stanescu: Obviously he wants to win. Ingrid never had other goals when she played in a tournament.

Reporter: Did anyone from the federation contact you?
Constantin Stanescu: Mr. Ovidiu Popescu was appointed as a federal coach and I talked to him by e-mail. Unfortunately, we seem to have been misunderstood and that call for help was interpreted as an attack on the FRT's leadership. Perhaps it would have better not to go there. I understand the federation's difficulties and we have nothing against anybody!

Reporter: How did Ingrid reacted when she found out that she doesn't have enough money to go in Australia?
Constantin Stanescu: I don't put her in such situations. She thought all along that she will leave for Australia. When I told her that we must go public with our difficulties that we are experiencing she started to cry and didn't agree to resolve this problem in this way. It was hard to convince her (to go public).

Reporter: There were calls in the media, were there people who called you to help this cause?
Constantin Stanescu: Many people have called and I recived e-mails from the U.S., Italy, Spain, England which is realy surprising to me. All this things have proved that there are many sensitive people around us. I thank them once again!

Reporter: When will Ingrid step towards seniors?
Constantin Stanescu: She already made this step, Ingrid ranks 570 in the world this week, but she played too much and we'll start the senior tournaments with a 25k in Sweden. Since 2011 is her last year when she can play juniors, I decided to play all four Grand Slam tournaments, with the objective to win one of them! You can imagine what will happen if she can achieve this performance.

Reporter: How do you see the romanian tennis?
Constantin Stanescu: I would see it this way: How many 12 years old players are a future prospect? Minimum five, I believe this would be a good number. But how many 14 years old players? How many 16 years old players? How many 18 years old players? Let's follow them! If a player doesn't have results, I wonder what's happening with him/her? I ask, I find out the causes and if I can fix the cause, I fix it. When he/she is 15 years old the FRT should tell the coach: Mr. Stanescu take 100 RON (24 euros) to drink a beer for your work so far, your player is a national asset so we'll take care of him/her, but stay close because if we need you we'll call you, but nothing more. If we can help 4-5 players each year to go pro in a few years I think romanian players would fill the rankings. We have human material and talent, but it must be cultivated in a professional manner!

So good to see a young player so passionate about tennis & finding her way to success. Anyway, I don't think Dinu is in the same situation at Ingrid, if anything, Dinu is probably one of the Romanian Tennis Federation's fave. She has a good draw at Rabat as well. I snatched some of her matches on that nice little stream they have from Antalya and she is game and technique wise miles above other 10k players. It's more the scorelines than the players that annoy me to be honest.

And of course it isn't, but I can't remember other players sucking so much on a regular basis after upsetting big names than our girls. Dulko was such a case as well, but she retired now.

Most players when on, than they are on for a week at least.

Let's see Aaron. What do you expect from our girls in 2013?

Curcubeu
Dec 3rd, 2012, 10:17 PM
I don't expect anything from Alexandra D. to be honest. I still don't have a clue how serious that injury really was and how long it will take for her to recover, but it would be awesome to see her sweeping the ITF clay swing la Torro-Flor this year.

From Sorana I would expect her at least to cut off those emberrassing losses by 50% which would be enough by current standards to let her finish this year inside or close to the Top 20. Winning a MM tournament would be great as well. She will get her chances.

I don't know what to expect from Simona. Her coaching situation seems to be a mess. Instead of expecting results, I'd rather expect her to work even more on her fitness, the results will come from alone then, she is one of the most consistent young players out there.

Irina-Camelia is the girl I'm expecting most to be honest, simply because I know how good she can really be and how little she shows of her actual capabilities out there. Everything else than finishing outside the Top 30 given an injury-free preperation for once would be a disappointment.

Monica should finish the year well inside the Top 50 again, trolling TF a bit and maybe she eventually gets that Luxembourg title we all long for.

In regard of Alexandra C., finishing the year inside the Top 100 again and winning 1 grand slam main draw match (at the FO) would be fully enough to make me happy. Maybe she can grab another 100k ITF title next year.

From the other girls I hold up my hopes for Cristina Dinu most to make some serious progress. But it will have to go step by step.
Elena Bogdan is a complete mess, so is Raluca. I hope they can pull themselves together, but I really don't see it happening.

The next Antalya is stronger, and thus she has to play qualies as the #1 seed. Tough turnaround!
