View Full Version : sjeng schalken: the funniest service movement ever?

Sep 6th, 2002, 11:55 AM
I saw him play for the first time vs. gonzalez. I'm sure he's a smashing bloke and everything, but the way he serves was really funny! :D his whole body seems so stiff and he's got a very peculiar expression on his face. it looked a bit unhealthy too.

still, well done, sjeng!

hup sjeng! make us proud:p

Beat, you should have seen him against Hewitt at Wimbledon. It was a five set match (including the only 2 sets Hewitt lost for the tournament)!

I know!! He's sooo stiff!!!!!!!
His body doesn't even move when he's serving lol!
If he were 10 cm smaller, he'd have major problems with his serve I think! I mean, he's very lucky that he's kinda tall, coz otherwise he'd have to change his motion for sure.

So weird!

It's true. He doesn't use that big frame of his at all to his advantage with that serve!

But I gotta love him. So very Zen out there most of the time. Poor guy, he's had some terribly heartbreaking losses in close, close matches.

So....Go Sjeng...all the way! :D

Yeah, his serve is weird, but he's a nice guy ;)

GO SJENG!!! :):):)

Yeah, he has to be one of the most inflexible players ever! Everyone agrees what a nice guy he is though, and he's had some terrible problems in the past, and lived to see the other side.

No Kapros beats him in that departement! :)

He does have a weird service movement, but if you watch the rest of his play, you see it matches. It's just the way he moves, I guess.

James also serves very stiff!

They called Sjeng a "dead branch" on the news over here. LMAO :D

I agree Linda, it's not only his service motion, it;s just his total game which is so unorthodox. But Go Sjeng! :bounce: :bounce:

It's just all arm... no torque, no knee bend.... still, he's doing pretty well regardless and congratulations to him

Sep 6th, 2002, 02:10 PM
he DOES bend his knee... but backwards... oh, how his physiotherapist must suffer ;)

That goes hands down to a lady who was in the first round of Mixed Doubles in Wimbledon 99 against Graf-McEnroe.
With BigMac giggling and Graf tryng to control herself not to burst out in laughter.
Tapes available if you're curious and you contact me.

Among the professionals, Karsten Braasch.

I think he is having his best year ever... I hoped he reached the finals... :) Only Sampras is on his way... :) :) :)

Sep 6th, 2002, 03:25 PM
what did you expect when his idol was Ivan Lendl ;)

Sep 6th, 2002, 03:31 PM
bee, he definitely is! Wimbledon was the first time he got trough the 3th round at a Grand Slam, this shows how psychological that was!

The award goes to Karsten Braasch, no question about that..
