Serbian ES is ES International with Serbian commentators, it can't be censored. I think. It's the democracy. I don't care about seeing the commercial, but the idea of needing an ad to promote or celebrate independence is weird. Just goes to show what kind of world we live in.

Ksenija Pajčin (December 3, 1977 - March 16, 2010) was a popular Serbian singer. At approximately 6:00 pm on March 16, 2010, the bodies of the 32-year old singer and her boyfriend Filip Kapisoda, a 22-year old model, were found in her apartment in Belgrade.[4] Both had gunshot wounds to the head. Police suspect a murder-suicide, with Kapisoda as the shooter.

Can someone explain to me why is it that it seems that the majority of Americans is against the health care reform? Thanks.

Optima
Mar 25th, 2010, 02:57 PM
People here are still DEATHLY afraid of the country becoming "socialist"...that, and there are so many uneducated idiots out there that trust anything Glenn Beck or any other form of conservative or Republican says. It's been ingrained into the country's mindset...granted, there are a TON of people that do not think like that, but the opposition is just really really loud. At the end of the day I think it goes back to the American sense of...Americans have always had the "individualistic, we've always done everything ourselves, I don't need help from the government, get the hell out of my life." mindset.

дalex
Mar 25th, 2010, 04:13 PM
That sounds like a very selfish mindset which is inconsistent with the image of Americans as charitable nation (that helps less fortunate around the world ). Socialism doesn't equal communism. I mean, if paying just few more bucks of taxes would help those less fortunate or less capable in your own country then why not do it. It's not like one's standard would drop significantly. Of course, you need a system that will allow all this and that is sustainable (hopefully this health care bill is a good one).

It's hard to say it because I love my country, but a lot of people here are selfish bastards who fight for EVERY penny, and I mean EVERY penny. About the socialism thing...there are just so many people that believe socialism DOES equal communuism. I guess it's a leftover freakout from WWII/Cold War/the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Then, you have new political parties/movements popping up like the "tea-baggers" who don't even want to pay taxes at all. If you haven't heard of them, they're basically crazy. I'm for the new health bill - it has a lot of good benefits. I especially like the fact now that insurance companies can't discriminate against people with pre-exisiting medical conditions, and that I can stay on my dad's insurance until I'm 26, if I need to. There are kind of iffy parts of the bill but at the end of the day, I do feel like it does need to be implemented, and that while this doesn't solve all of our problems, it's definitely a step in the right direction.

:sobbing: Where does one begin?

There are so many myths and rumors floating around...As Optima said, people do equate socialism to communism. People have been told that the government is going to decide who they visit/when/what healthcare to receive and even when to die!!! (A rumor floated around for a while saying that once you got too old, the government would euthanize you. There are so many uneducated people in the US, it's not funny.

TBH, no one is sure what's going to happen. Obama is rushing through this in order to pull it off, have people spent enough time making the right decisions? I don't mind paying a little extra to help someone by paying extra taxes. But, other people have a point too,for eg, it's irritating to see someone on food stamps buy cigarettes and tons of junk food instead of grocery essentials.

The people whom i work with aren't even sure what effect it's going to have on healthcare. I'm sure a lot of it is just "fear of the unknown".No one knows what to expect.

I guess my real question is - how come we, Europeans, don't have this problem while the most powerful nation in the world does? Is it that our governments are distributing tax money differently or is it just about mindset of people?

On my way back from USO... I was "adopted" by some old biddy who was a staunch republican who proceeded to tell me how she hated what Obama was proposing because ... well "look at your health care - you don't get emergency treatment in the UK"
What a load of bollocks. When my father had a heart attack prior to a scheduled bypass, he was bumped up the register, twice.
My best friend is a GP - if people are diagnosed with cancer, they don't go on a waiting list - they are seen. Rapidly.
Oh... and I also had to point out that people always ALWAYS have the option of private health and dental care.
If people choose NOT to go that route, that of course is their option.
What saddened me was this lady (who had had a prosperous life - husband Italian, West Pointer, lived in a prominant area of Baltimore etc) was TOTALLY ASTOUNDED by the fact that even though we have a National Health Service, we can also opt out. She thought it was totally compulsory for all to have ALL your treatment on the NHS.

Since being involved in sport from the age of 14, ALL my physiotherapy treatment has been private. Since leaving for University, ALL my dental surgery has been private.
But if I have a stinking cold, and need antibiotics... sure I schlep to the NHS surgery, get attacked by a stethoscope (someone invent a warm one of those please) and trot to the Pharmacy to get my meds. Oh... and I have to PAY for my meds as being a working-type person I don't get them free anymore.

I heard some of the rumours prior to the bill going through - but the "government euthanasia one" heh... might even be a money spinner, that one

I think ms_nut is right - "fear of the unknown"... and the fact that people hear "national" and think "lack of choice".

I guess my real question is - how come we, Europeans, don't have this problem while the most powerful nation in the world does? Is it that our governments are distributing tax money differently or is it just about mindset of people?

A lot of it has to do with the mindset of people/societies in Europe vs America. Europeans seem more comfortable with more government involvement. Public transport has always been a priority. Except for a few cities, most places don't have adequate public transport in the US. Part of our success was incorporating capitalism and it's not without it's shortcomings, health care being one of them.

A lot of people just do not want govenrment involvement. South Dakota is onea good example. A solid red state (republican), yet they voted 52%+ against banning abortion and 48% voted in favor of gay marriage (even though they lost and the ban passed)

 I'm sure your and our governments are distributing similar amounts into their pockets..:p

People in the Tristate area around Cincinnati (Indiana-Kentucky-Ohio) are extremely conservative and they absolutely hate Obama's current plan.

On my way back from USO... I was "adopted" by some old biddy who was a staunch republican who proceeded to tell me how she hated what Obama was proposing because ... well "look at your health care - you don't get emergency treatment in the UK"

That's nice to know. People always bring up Canada/UK and explain how things are so horrible in their Healthcare system because god forbid you need immediate care..;) I'm going to use your comments as ammo agianst the other naysayers.

The way it works in America is this: the right-wing fiscal conservatives (i.e. big business) have made a loose yet somehow strong connection with social conservatives (evangelicals who are against abortion and gay rights). The ones with the money are able to use the system to their advantage by buying whatever elections, congressional members, etc. they can, while at the same time scaring the large bloc of social conservatives (about 20-25%) in this country to voting regularly and 100% in their favor. They've created a world for right-wing wingnuts in which communism = socialism = black people = gay people = anything foreign or unknown. Any change is bad, and government involvement in their lives is the enemy.

This happens in a lot of countries, but the free-trade deregulation of the United States and its effect on elections and other aspects of everyday life have amplified the effects. I feel we're gradually undoing all this but there's still quite a bit of loud fear and politicking out there, which is why the health care bill had to be watered down and took almost a year before passing by the skin of its teeth.

Ana pulled out of FC tie against Slovakia.

Poor Ana though. She's been playing so badly lately, it's like Jelena's crisis of 2006 and even worse, so her withdrawal is understandable.

Fed Cup statement

In mutual agreement with the Serbian Tennis Federation, Ana will not take part in the Serbia versus Slovakia Fed Cup tie next month.

“I spoke with the captain Dejan Vranes, and the President of the Federation Slobodan Zivojinovic, and together we decided that under these circumstances, and after all that has happened lately, it’s not the right time for me to be part of the team,” said Ana.

“Despite my non-presence, I believe that we have a good team, led by Jelena, and this is a great opportunity for one of the young, upcoming players to play on the biggest stage.

“I know that Serbia will put up a performance of great commitment and passion as always.

“I will continue to make all necessary steps to find my form, and the key to that is training with my team and playing tournaments.”

Zivojinovic said: “We all know that Ana has been through some very tough experiences lately and we support her in her efforts to do everything possible to return to the top. Ana has all the time in the world, she is only 22, and she’ll be back soon.”

Actually, the problem are Serbian Ana-fans/JJ-haters. They will go to any length to villify Jelena even if it means villifying their own country and people. I know that azdaja is not completely right in the head, but what he wrote is really terrible - non-Serbian posters might believe it. Serbia is a country with numerous problems, which would take very long to explain, and all kinds of propaganda used in the internal political struggle for power are a big part of them. Branding people who don't agree with certain politics as ''nationalists'' on one side and ''traitors'' on the other is idiotic enough in itself. But using that for villifying a tennis player and her fans is the most retarded thing I have ever seen in my life, even here on TF! :weirdo:

Unfortunately that's true. But what on earth does that have to do with Jelena? If anything, Ana's comment shows the problems of having been brought up in a backwards atmosphere (not to mention the lack of formal education, as Alex and Serena like to say )
And I still can't figure out why most of the Serbian Ana fans/JJ haters on this board are either retarded (Costanza) or insane (azdaja). International AF/JH posters are often fun and creative, but the former ones always get threads closed... :help:

There was an epic JJ fans vs. Ana fans fight in the GM thread about Arvidsson stalking Ana. We had a lot of fun, but a Serbian Ana fan/JJ hater azdaja, whose life mission is to persuade us that we should admit Ana is fabulous while JJ is terrible, started posting some idiotic things (that Jelena's main Serbian fanbase consists of nationalistic thugs, whoever those are), and so I told him he was an idiot, so did Bruno but in more refined language, and the mods closed the thread.

I just think their self-righteous attitude is annoying sometimes. I mean they take the moral high ground, but go on doing the same things that they are supposedly against and fail to see the hypocrisy.

They say that Ana haters (who are according to them mostly Jelena fans) are trying to portray Ana as someone who's secretly a bitch, that we're constantly talking about her in our forum (presumably in a very negative, hating fashion)... And then they go on vilifying Jelena all over GM (and their own forum) calling her all the names in the book (ugly, bitch, classless, green goblin, disgusting...) and probably expect us to just agree with them 'cos as soon as we appear in great numbers to argue with them they start rolling their eyes at us saying oh Jelena fans this, Jelena fans that. And at worst we're just arguing in a civilized manner, perhaps being a bit annoying, but that's the best tactic against trolls and haters anyway.

As for us trying to portray Ana as a bitch (probably 'cos our fave is one and we want to show that Ana is one too ), that's just never happened. At worst some of said that Ana seems fake in the sense that she seems to be hiding her true emotions by always being so politically correct, nice and sweet, kind and caring. Well duh, even some of them complained that most of her interviews are either bullshit or delusional. It's just that they don't think that's being fake but just being nice and polite. Meh.

The point is - if you're gonna bring out all your ammunition against other players (read Jelena), then it's only fair to expect the same in return. I mean, I'm pretty sure none of us have actually and in all seriousness denied that Ana seems like a genuinely nice and sweet and kind and whatnot person off the court. But on the court she can be as annoying and classless as possible (IMO), but it's not a valid argument 'cos we are bitter ever since that RG loss (and Jelena is jealous of Ana's beauty and GS title). So what, it's only normal that we hate the outcome of that match and regret it didn't end in Jelena's favour, no? But it's not like many commentators haven't said that Ana's fistpumps are over the top, annoying, that they seem pathetic and desperate. The latest example is that article of Mr. Jenkins, but ES commentators have been saying the same. Didn't one of them joke about Ana fistpumping that she successfully woke up, or was that one of us?

So everything they or some players say is provoked by Jelena or her annoying fans, but everything Jelena or we say and do is uncalled for and unnecessary. That's because Ana and her fans are nice and sweet and Jelena and her fans are annoying and classless bitches.

And what about some of theirs jabs about us thinking we're incredibly witty and funny like it's something we're bragging about and not pretty much consensus around this board?

Calling us delusional like that's not something we joke about all the time... Thinking we do nothing but worship Jelena, failing to see that we can be very critical of her in our forum. They think we're joking at Ana's expense, but they don't notice when we do the same, or even worse to Jelena.

I can go on and on about this... It's not like I am that bothered by it, but I admit it's somewhat annoying me. I would be perfectly fine with us agreeing to not agree, but it's some of them who keep acting like they're perfect and we're, I don't know, some monsters probably.

That's actually my main thing, really.

I like Ana, but I'm very critical of her. Of course, I'm the same way about Jelena--whenever she loses or does something stupid, I make fun of her/laugh at her/call her stupid/etc. Doesn't mean I'm not her biggest fan.

But NEVER have I seen an Ana fan say one bad thing about Ana. It's amazing. Even when she deserves it or is clearly in the wrong, they never stop defending her. When she plays shitty and loses to crappy players, they still stick to her defense--see, that's where most of us are different--When Jelena plays like shit and loses to, say, Alona Bondarenko (!), we let her have it and call her out on it.

But with Ana, it's just a million excuses for her... Sad.

Either way, don't let Ana's fans get to you guys. Stay classy.

Yeah this is all true of course, and somehow I just felt that this time...and I hadn't been posting at all on GM for a LONG time...this time I couldn't just let them keep doing it. They at least had to know about it. Unfortunately, azdaja wasn't likely the one to be engaging, but at least I got to have my say. Hopefully the more reasonable Ana fans who have also been acting like *very mild* assholes lately (Alex., The Daviator, etc.) may think twice before trying to add to this shit again. But that may be hoping for too much. I really do think it's the worst fanbase out there as a whole on TF right now.

No no, you got that all wrong. Kuzmanovic was learning to fly, he was waving with his hands and the ball accidentally hit him. And Ghana player obviously planted his hand in Lukovic's arms.

We almost gifted you a point just like we gifted victory to Ghana. So stupid. Serbia played very well tactically though, Germany didn't really have better chances to score (apart from that penalty of course). Referee was very harsh today, at least our team was smart enough to see that on time. :tape:

Great win, but we're still far from going through, especially if Ghana wins against AUS. :sobbing:

Have you been recognised anywhere unusual?

I went to Serbia last year to do a show. I didn’t even know where it was but people recognised me in the street. The gig was great but the city we were in wasn’t so good. It was very racist and behind the times. The streets were full of fat, ugly people but the people who came to my show were gorgeous.

Well I called mine Rozzie's Tennis Blogs - so not very imaginative there really.
And others use a variety of tennis terms... so there are quite a lot of things out there - Down The Line, New Balls Please, Forty Deuce...

If you are looking at it being a showcase for a future career then maybe set it up/name it as something that you can identify as your "brand"... I used the name Rozzie in the familiar a lot here and so it made sense to make my blog something like that...

Decide what you want it to be as well - are you going to be doing the tour in general, or just things that you do?

Whatever you decide - please let us know so we can support you :bounce:

Thanks a lot for the advice!

Yeah, i'm aware of a lot of these blogs and that's why I was quite reluctant to do this. But everybody keeps on telling me that making a blog is perfect because it means I can start building up a portfolio of my wiriting and it also means that it will help to improve my writing skills. I'm going to cover both tours in general.

When you started your blog, what website did you use at the beginning? I was looking at a website caled Orble and I think that's where i'm going to start my blog initially. I'm aware of other blog sites typepad and others, but i'm not sure what the best one would be.

I started by looking at Typepad because that's what Forty Deuce is on, and I look at that the most... but I think it kept prompting me for charging... and while I was doing some of the stuff to keep my job, my ex also mentioned Wordpress (which another mate has started to use) and I use blogspot which is pretty good

What helps is one where they make it easy to add pictures etc without having to know a lot of HTML coding - a lot with give you a "WYSIWYG" (What You See Is What You Get) interface and then you can look at the more complicated stuff if you like.
If you are looking to use a free one and not pay - then try and link photos and images from another free hosting site. Blogspot have an image maximimum for the free service... so all my pics are in Flickr and I have to pay for the Flickr Pro service but it's worth it given the number of blogs I've rattled off now.

:hysteric:

I was thinking maybe something to do with a pusher or fistpump, I guess I have to wait and see if anything comes to mind.

I don't think those are good options as you can't play word games with 'pusher' and 'fistpump' - they're very narrow terms.

LuckyLoser.com :rolls:

No, Jelena's withdrawn from doubles.
