Yulia has to be one of the cutest players I've ever seen. Even her come ons & allez sounds so endearing. At one point, she even challenged the umpire on a call. When she didn't get a call for a serve that was out from her opponent, she raised her hands in the air to protest. The umpire then shaked her head & said the ball was in. Yulia imitated the umpire's head-shaking gesture and gave a really funny sarcastic look. She also a very gutsy player, going for all her shots & angles even when breakpt down.

After the match, I went up to her & told her Davai and good job to which she flashed a great big smile. I then asked her if I could take a picture with her & she immediately responded with a sure in a cheerful manner. She's such a cute pocket-rocket.

No offence but the way you described her made her sound like a brat, not cute.

It's hard to put into words but there's a fine line between being a bratty bitch and a cute brat :) When she imitated the umpire, its kinda like how Andy Roddick did it at the AO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKX2yd-ClTc). This girl definitely has fire and will-power, if anything, its her size that will hold her back. Will be interesting to see how she deals with a player of An-sophie's stature tomorrow.

PerfectForm
Aug 16th, 2010, 04:03 PM
Yulia was a usually fiery self today in both singles (she really made An-sophie look bad & An was pretty pissed off with Yulia's cheers) & doubles but she had a really cute moment in her doubles with Daria. There was a long point which ended with Yulia hitting a winning volley. Immediately, she did her trademark "come on!!" at the top of her lungs, fist-pumped & did a victory sign with her 2 fingers and a big smile on her face to her dad, who was sitting right beside me.

I spoke to Yulia father for abit, who was a really cute character as well. He shared that after the USO juniors Yulia may play Kremlin cup or Luxembourg MD with a WC. Also, he was really jovial about her game when I said I hope to see her in grandslams soon. He said with a smile," she's good in singles, but double..eh so-so only". LOL

nothing wrong with being ambitious & constantly pumping yourself up because you want to be the best :)

She lost 36 16. Knew that Kerber wasn't going to be an easy match. Good thing is that Yulia lost the first set by a single break only so she is doing decently for a 15 year old against a much higher ranked opponent.

Kerber was a tough R1 opponent. She is now in Luxembourg SF!

You could clearly see that a Top 60-player like Kerber is simply too good for Yulia at the moment.
A disadvantage for Yulia is her lack of height. Also she will have to improve her serve a lot!
The positive thing about her is that she never gives up.

Yulia is still only 15. She needs more experience.;)

16-year old triumphs in debut final

Yulia Putintseva, runner-up in the singles final of the 2010 Junior US Open tournament, celebrated winning her career first ITF Pro Circuit singles title when she triumphed in her home city of Moscow.

The 16-year old recipient of a Wild Card into the main draw had an amazing run to her first ever singles final, a run which included three successive victories over seeded opposition including the tournament’s top seed in the quarterfinals.

This $25,000 Moscow tournament saw Putintseva competing in only her fourth singles main draw on the ITF Pro Circuit and eighth of her career and is now closing in on her WTA career best singles ranking of 608, set in February this year.

Putintseva poised for big time

JAMES BRESNEHAN | February 13, 2012 12.01am

RUSSIAN rocket Yulia Putintseva blasted her way to a straight sets win over Dutch qualifier Lesley Kerkhove yesterday in the final of the Launceston ITF women's tournament.
Putintseva, 17, took control of the match by restricting her opponent to only one game in the opening set and continued her demolition in the second to win the $25,000 tournament 6-1 6-3.
Ranked 206 in the world, Putintseva used her strong forehand to humble her opponent, 20, who is ranked world 412.
That put an end to Kerkhove's seven-match winning streak, which started in qualifying and took her all the way to the tournament final.
Tournament director Mark Handley said Putintseva most likely would advance to compete at the Hobart International women's tournament, possibly as soon as next year.
"She's high intensity, she's very competitive, very consistent, and she could quite easily go top 100 next year," Handley said.
"She's the No. 6 junior in the world and Australian Open junior runner-up, so we'd love to see her in Hobart."
The Launceston event is a stepping stone from juniors to senior professional tennis on the WTA tour, of which the Hobart International is part.
This was the first event for the Launceston tournament.
"This whole month has consisted of the Moorilla [Hobart] International, Burnie and Launceston, so it has been a great time for tennis in Tasmania," Handley said.
Launceston's new tennis centre has nine Plexipave courts, compared with Hobart's six of the same surface, while Burnie has 16 Plexipave decks.

Russia is losing another promising player to Kazakhstan, I hear. Probably all the new Russians will soon represent that country.
Russian Tennis Federation don't have enough money to invest, so the youngers are looking for more support elsewhere. Kazakhstan is making a effort to provide this support, at least looks like..

It's a shame this happen to Russia.. :(

Phenomareva
May 25th, 2012, 07:30 AM
I rather have her play for Russia, but in the end, it is the player who you support, not necessarily the country, I think. Although she will play for Kazakhstan on paper, she will always be Russian. It is just that in Fed cup, Olympics, and her ranking she will compete as Kazakh, but her roots remain Russian. And I will be interested how her career will develop, also as a Kazakh.
Fact is that for Russia it is a loss. I cannot judge how it must feel for the Russians that she switches the nationality. I also wonder how much this is her own decision. I can imagine that managaers are involved who also make a profit of have her nationality changed. Anyway, good luck Yulia for your tenniscareer, also as a Kazakh.

Bероника

I will support Yulia no matter who she plays for.It would be a pity if her talent went to waste only because not enough support from russian federation.

Good luck under Kazakh flag,Yulia! :)

and about RG defeat, she'll have many more chances in the future at this tournament.Where is she playing next?

Tennis Fool
May 27th, 2012, 04:29 AM
Phenomareva, I totally agree that you should support the player more than the country, it's just a bit disheartening to think what never became after 2004 when Nastya Myskina, Masha and Sexlana won those three Slams. It really looked then like the Russians would dominate, and in fact, Russia is still producing more talent than any other country.

So, it will be interesting to see how competitive Kazahkstan will become, and to see if a rivalry develops between the two countries.

I've put in the request to have a Kazakhstan subforum in Asia, so that that group of players can be cheered for in one place. :)

Yulia is already listed as (KAZ) for the 100k Marseille  That went fast. Anyway, she is the 3rd seed there, hopefully she will do well. I guess no more 25k-s for her, she can now start playing WTA events :)

The field isn't that frightening, there's no player there who is better than Yulia on a good day. And she had lots of good days lately :D

She only is allowed to play 16 tournaments a year so maybe she doesn't see herself going well there, meaning that she doesn't want to waste the tournament
She should have played for Estonia instead of Kazakhstan. Now she has gotten a worse rep for it

We have great facilities (High quality of all surfaces including indoor clay, along with good coaches and many international coaches looking into the region. Also a very supportive association (Kaia got over 100K from a shipping company, not even the association itself and got more from the association, Anett got over 20K) and a large Russia speaking population, although they are disliked. Also, EU citizenship along with the Euro as currency, with a good base for the rest of Europe, Mourataglou's academy and perhaps getting her family EU citizenship as well. Estonia is also a much nicer place with great people, a great atmosphere and she would receive great support rather than whatever she gets from Kazakhstan

And her reputation has been worsened by playing for Kazakhstan. She is now being labelled as one of the sell-outs :(

My final point is that according to Anett, she and Yulia are friends so that could have been a nice training arrangement :)

I can't compare Estonia to Kazachstan, 'cause I've never been in any, nor learned about any. But I can compare it to Romania, which has awful facilities and awful people. I don't doubt you're right about what you're saying. But I didn't mean that.
I meant you've said she should have played for Estonia, even though, given your posts about her, you seem to dislike Yulia a bit (to say it like that ).

I don't like her attitude at all, and very few will ever like her unless she changes it. But I really love her game and I think she is a nice person off the court. If she wasn't like that on court, then I think she would have far more than 200 or something posts in this thread :) She has great potential. IMO, she should not have gone to Kazakhstan because I don't think it's the best thing for her. And I am still interested to see how she will advance, so I will pop in here every once in a while :)

(1)Yulia Putintseva (KAZ) v Eva Fernandez-Brugues (ESP)

Maria Irigoyen (ARG) v (Q)Asia Muhammed (USA)

One of my friends that I met at a tennis tournament spent time at Patrick Morataglou's academy in France, and had met some of the people there including Rezai, Gavrilova (+ her infamous brother) and Yulia. Apparently Yulia was one of the nicest people she ever met and that she had many stories about the crowd in various places booing her antics etc. Apparently she doesn't mind it, which is a great thing IMO :)

You know, wrestling is a sport where is much more of an art to be a bad guy rather then being a good guy, and many wrestlers enjoy better being booed than being cheered. Maybe she's that type of player

Yulia is playing WTA Palermo:

(1)Sara Errani (ITA) v Edina Gallovits-Hall (ROU)
(wc)Nastassja Burnett (ITA) v Patricia Mayr-Achleitner (AUT)
Alexandra Cadantu (ROU) v Kiki Bertens (NED)
Mariana Duque-Marino (COL) v (7)Alize Cornet (FRA)

(4)Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP) v (wc)Maria Elena Camerin (ITA)
Q/LL v (wc)Anastasia Grymalska (ITA)
Yulia Putintseva (KAZ) v Lourdes Dominguez Lino (ESP)
Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) v (6)Polona Hercog (SLO)

(8)Barbora Zahlavova Strycova (CZE) v Silvia Soler-Espinosa (ESP)
Julia Cohen (USA) v Vera Dushevina (RUS)
Q/LL v Valeria Savinykh (RUS)
Akgul Amanmuradova (UZB) v (3)Julia Goerges (GER)

(5)Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP) v Q/LL
Anna Tatishvili (GEO) v Q/LL
Laura Robson (GBR) v Q/LL
Karin Knapp (ITA) v (2)Roberta Vinci (ITA)

Not a bad draw, I think. LDL and Begu/Hercog ain't scary, but she has to move on after the terrible loss to Barbie. It could happen either way depending on that.

I am very happy she is trying WTAs
She also seems to be showing some kind of loyalty to Kazakhstan as she is playing their 100K in Astana :)

BTW, Yulia is running out of tournaments and quickly for that matter.
After Palermo, she will have played 10 out of her 16 and she is on the Entry Lists for Bucharest (Withdrawal Closed) and 100K Astana which would leave her with 4 tournaments for the rest of the year :tape:

Sadly we will be seeing less and less of her as the season goes on, and if she plays US Open qualies, I doubt she will be able to play any lead-up tournaments. Maybe she should play some Juniors to stay match fit at the end of the season :)

No wonder she didn't play Wimbledon Qualies

Good :)
She gets as much Juniors as Anett yet she is a few days off being a year older. That rule is so unfair
Anyway, at least she gets more tournaments :D I think it's good she's trying the higher level tournaments as they are the tournaments she is going to have to play to be good and the more experience she gets the better.
