How many are given out?

There are 5 WCs, however if I understand the rules only 4 will probably end up be used and the 5th will become another direct entry for the next in.

Well if thats the case I would expect 2 or 3 wildcards to Brits and 1 or 2 to internationals.

3 are used, other 2 are for top 10
but in Int Series, if not used, are given back to tourn.

I cant see many top 10 players coming here unless someone has a disapointing Roland Garros.

only 1 top ten can play here
unless LTA give more prize money out which is doubtful cos they got so many shit coaches to pay.

need another $280k for 2 top 10 players to play
then $250 for each one after

At International tournaments, if the first Top 10 Wild Card is not used, it may be awarded by the Tournament to any player, and if
the second Top 10 Wild Card is not used, it reverts back to “Next player in”.
In all instances, the awarding of the Top 10 Wild Card shall be subject to Age Eligibility and Prize Money Policy restrictions. The
wild cards must be named by the 4pm Qualifying Sign-In deadline.

Unless they get direct entries i'd expect Bally, Katie and Mel to get WC's

Georgie, Naomi B, Emily and Naomi C to get quallies ones.

Its a 64 draw, surely most of them will get DEs?

Mel is 2 out so might get in Katie and Ballt unlikely.

Georgie is in the quallies draw and really doesn't deserve a MD WC based on current form, she'll be better off in qualifying.

I think Mel is officially in. Lets hope she can build on it after dissapointing results at the French and slightly dissapointing loss from a set up at Nott!

Good that that frees up the WC, I guess now its definitely got to go to Katie, Bally and Naomi Cavaday? I thought Amanda Elliott would have a good shot at one considering her great form here last year, but I realy doubt it with her form this year seeing her drop 100 spots.... Perhaps Naomi, Tara or Jade Curtis might have an outside chance but I doubt it.

O'Brien, Baltacha, Cavaday and Stoop have been awarded wildcards

and other wildcards?
international players?

jake270392

I dont think so, there are usually only 4 wildcards given out and the LTA would have stated if they gave a wildcard to an international player.

what about hantuchova, bartoli, jankovic?

Only brits have been mentioned and considering 4 have been given out to brits, im not sure any more will be given out.

Agree with these completely. Stoop has done well to get up the rankings, but her form has stalled a bit. I hope she can make the most of this!

I think Stoop has stalled a bit, but I know she has been injured and for her, I think she just needs more matches under her belt at this level.
Cavaday is always strong on grass and can be threat and it looks like she is back on form.
And it was obvious the other two were going to get a wildcard.

Is it a rule to give home players WCs?

serenus_2k8
Jun 5th, 2009, 06:56 PM
No of course not, but its the best thing to do :) Its the home players that pull the crowd and get them really into a match so why wouldnt the organisers want them to have them? Plus its great practise for Wimb, and who knows, one of them could have a fairytale run of their own.

It seems maybe the unused 5th wildcard resulted in Alexa Glatch getting into Main Draw as next accepted entrant. The Main Draw list shows her as 1st alternate but she was crossed off the qualy list and Alberta Brianti (ranked 1 spot below Glatch) is the top seed in the qualifying draw. Weird stuff.

Yeah, unused top-10 WC means that 1st MD alternate will get in.

Has Cavaday worked on her fitness since every other time I have seen her play

Good for Stoop to get one.

Yeh she has, loads of people who have seen her have commented on the fact she is in much better shape! Both her and Mel are looking considerably fitter which is great since the British media has been very hard on them in the past.
