The draw seems to be good. The first two rounds seems to be winnable, then it's hard to tell what form will Safina present on clay but if she doesn't improve significantly then she is beatable too.

Why is Agnieszka #6 seed, not #8?

Would be good to see Aga in quarterfinal of her first clay court tournament this season. And with this draw it's quite possible. Also I'm waiting for another chance of beating #1, the only question is if Safina survives till QF. :hehehe:

Over all it was a good match from their both.
Aga hit the ball well, moved well, but tacticlly it was awful.
Wozniak's BH was way better it seemed, and yet 90% from Aga's shot went there, and that's why she was in troubles most of this match.
Also, she got a little wild with all the drop shots, played too many and in some occasions, not on the right time, when Wozniak wasn't outside the court, just in the middle of the rally so Wozniak saw it early, didn't have any trouble to get there in time.
Next match she better figure out the right tactic, but over all she can be pleased with her preference today, the serve was pretty good, she moved well and had a good winners/UE stats (30-16 if I recall right)

Good news, Pironkova seems to be struggling lately and H2H is just

Aga seems to be handling her new racquet very well, guess she needs to play more matches with it but I think her 1st serve (and shots overall) got a little bit stronger. And I agree with justine_schnyder she should've played wiser today - she would finish this match a lot earlier but still I'm pleased with her performance. She's playing a lot better than at beginning of 2009.

I think the 2nd set was a result of Woźniak's disappointment, caused by the fact she played well in first set and Aga playing below her level still managed to win it ;)

But it may be also the result of Agnieszka stepping up after a closely contested first set. The mark of a (future) champion. I am always somehow more worried after 6:0 in the first...

But it may be also the result of Agnieszka stepping up after a closely contested first set. The mark of a (future) champion. I am always somehow more worried after 6:0 in the first...

That's true. I wish to see a convincing scoreline by Isia throughout an entire match, something like 6-3, 6-2, leading the entire way.

Congratulations Isia, on a wonderful match. Please do the same tomorrow.

It's nice to be back posting again. I've been extremely busy in the real world, and will be for the next month, but I'll have to stay up-to-date now that she's showing some hope for the clay season.

Aga made some tactical mistakes in her serve game playing on Safina's racket. She definitely still can win it.

Aga lost 4-6 2-6.

I'm happy after this match. Aga showed she's in good shape, not top, but really ok. She should have top form in few weeks. :)

This loss is not that bad. She can't win all tournaments, if she wants to be fit at RG. :p

Sad for Agnieszka :(

Safina was too good.

Anyway, Aga has nothing to be ashamed of, she played very well.

But for now - bye bye Stuttgart - and hello Rome :)

Everyone is correct, Dinara played too well for Agnieszka even though she played well, too. This clearly shows that Agnieszka has a gap that she needs to close before significant advance in the ranking. I hope one day in not too distant future we will be able to say Agnieszka was too good for "insert the most respected WTA player here". I strongly believe that the talent and potential is there, but there are some elements, for example a little more power, that she needs to work on. I am waiting for that moment here with all of you. :wavey:

I don't know what's Safina's best, but on that day she was beatable for Aga. She just wasn't tactically consistent and played too often on Safina's racket and then Safina has enough power to use it. Normally I'd be sad Aga didn't take her chance to beat #1, but now I'm not as this match at this moment doesn't matter that much. Aga must play her best in the rightest tournament.
