I used to be a big fan of Amelie, but the passion simmered. No explanation, but congrats to her. She is a real force of talent and it's nice to see her proving once again that she should never be counted out. She defeated my Kimmy  but it's all good, it's all good

I told Gumby that she would win, that all she had to do is keep plugging away. Congrats to you Momo.

Congrats, Amelie!

That match was exciting and made be a ball of nerves, so I can only imagine how the real die hard fans felt like.

Amelie showed courage and great mental strength today, her Sports Psycologist is helping her out, congrats.

well lets hope Amelie can back this up unlike what she did at Wimbledon. I swear i hate it when someone beats a top player in one round and then poop out 62 61 in the next round. Venus will probably win tonight and then slaughter amelie...she would have killed jen too most likely so what difference does it make i guess? I'm just down cause jen lost. oh well...

Well Done Amelie

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Just realised that everyone left in the draw is a favourite of mine (of course to varying degrees. Venus leading the pack by a MILE however..)

whatever happens from now on in - this will have to count as one of my best opens and i can relax and watch Women's Tennis without getting too hot under the collar..

wey hey :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I was a little pissed when amelie said I go for number 3 because I thought what a mentality that was but obvious it worked well for her since she seems to be mentally tougher since that time!
Congrats for that:D

Sorry - I meant neither Venus nor Seles (it's just taken me a few minutes to get back in and fix it)

irma, I'd rather see her aim for the top, too, but I'm willing to let her take it one step at a time ;)

Momo is aiming for the top, I think at that time she was a bit ticked off. With her talent there is no way to go but up imho. She has the game to upset alot of power players.

Momo can only gain confidence from that match.

Dawn, when Queen Linds forget to take her meds, she is vicious. The poor thing let those darn Williams girls drive her completely batty. How you doing QueenLinds?, hang in there sweety, good mental health to you. <<<I am so worried for her if it is another all Williams final, some good person from the board should volunteer to stay with her just so she dont do something stupid to herself again...>>> Kumbaya my lord, Kumbaya...Oh lord, help Queen Linds...

Enjoy it while it lasts, Amelie; you deserve your current success. On Friday, you have an appointment with Miss Venus E. Williams; I'm sorry to say you may not come out laughing. Sorry my dear!

I have to hand it to Amelie. She dug deep when it mattered and won! Congrats to her!

i agree. it would be nice to see her put up a real fight against Venus. i don't expect her to win but after that non-match between venus and Monica (heck even Venus, Ms. PR, honestly admitted that Monica was totally off her game!), it would be nice to see a REAL match between Amelie and Venus. is that asking for too much?

Not to jinx anything, but Venus and Amelie have played some real barn-burners.

Honestly, Amelie is going to have a play a whole heap better to stand a chance against Venus the way she's playing. I thought she was lackluster against Capriati until she showed great heart at the end. But even she admitted in her interview, nothing was working, not forehands or backhands, not volleys, nada.

She has to serve better than she has throughout this tournament and she better not take some of those big swings off Venus's serves because the ball will go flying out of Ashe stadium.

mishar's right on!

She did well to get through the match with Jen but is gonna have to do a lot better against Venus.

Yes, Amelie herself admitted, "I left my legs in the lockerroom", still tired after her match with Kim. Hopefully she'll be better rested for tomorrow. I'm looking forward to a great match!

Hi Sonja and Linnie!:)

Amelie played much better against Kim. Her groundstrokes were much more lethal, her slice really stayed down, and she played some great serve&volley. I know it's hard to do that against Venus, but I feel like she has to.

The two parts of her game that concern me on these fast courts are:

Her serve which could be much better but hasn't really "happened" yet here in NY

And her returns. This is her biggest problem on these courts. I don't know if it's because she doesn't have time to change her grips, or if she's trying to take a big swing, but she missed so many easy returns against Clijsters and Capriati. She's got to make Venus work for her service games. Hopefully she will be well-rested also.

Good luck Amelie!

again i agree. and if she was that tired after her match against Kim, what does she have left to face Venus with? i know she won't win, i was just hoping for some decent tennis. i dunno about you guys but i'm quite fed up of the barn-burners. but i guess here comes yet another...
