Dementieva will win this and it won't be an achievment if she does. She's #3 so players outside the top 10 shouldn't be a problem for her , especially if she has a 2-1 record against them and they are pretty much weaker than her in most departments (except in the matter of the mental strength).

Tough call, both are playing very well this week. I will go with Elena in two very close sets something like 7-6 7-5. But I am less confident of who will win this match than I am that it will be a very close affair.

Caro always gives Lena trouble. This time won't be any different. I was kind of hoping she'd be bumped off early on.

On the other hand, Caro's probably my favorite non-Lena player left in the tournament.

If Lena loses, I'll be pissed she can't beat a nonscrub. If she wins, I'll be afraid she's peaking too soon.

Overthinking everything is one of the many hazards of being a Lena fan.

Vesnina's not exactly in Lena's league, either. Caro's a good player who is certainly capable of beating anybody on any given day, but Lena's legendary appetite for self-destruction could well be a factor, especially given that she's the higher seeded player.

kman

I'm not gonna hate Dementieva because of her fans and fortunately Dementieva's percetion of Wozniacki is in diametrical opposition to that of her fans (some fans I should say). So far she's called her Luxembourg final against Wozniacki "her hardest final ever" and in a recent interview with WTA she hailed Azarenka and Wozniacki as the new players to look out for. She and Wozniacki are also playing an exhibition next week in Denmark so I think the two get along fine.

Some people really think Wozniacki is winning slams playing the way she plays. Sure she is beating a collection of lower ranked players and once in a moon catching someone off form, but her never having reached a slam QF shows what her game is worth right now.

You can't push and moonball your way to slams but let her get to as many QFs in a row at these tournaments as she wants. She'll see later.

Honestly, Caroline seems like a sweetheart, and smart and grounded off-court. I have no problems with most of her fans, who seem to have realistic expectations about Caroline.

However, I find her game so, so dull. I'm inclined to think she beats opponents by boring them to death. There's also so much hype around her from some quarters to be the next big thing (probably because she's very attractive) and IMO, neither her game nor her results back it up. Sure, she can beat lower ranked players with ease and win MM tournaments, but her results at slams and tier I/II/Premiers are not exactly impressive.

I like both players a lot and I don't like to vote. Elena has worked so hard to become a superstar and she is now. Very much credit for that! Her game seems to be grounded by her enormous physical strength and her outstanding condition. It's rarely seen from Elena some spectacular balls, she likes hitting hard and flat from the backline. Her ability to change the tactics during a match is non-existing and that is maybe her only weakness. Elena has developed her serve a lot, it's really good now. Caro, on the other hand, has some more instruments to play. She is equal to Elena from the backline because her condition is so good. She serves maybe 10% better than Vera. Caro has a tactic understanding that Elena doesn't have. Sometimes Caro seems to be "teenager-confused" which is her biggest opponent. I think Caro will win in an epic match.

Lots of people did. I myself actually thought she would last year... I dunno, last year i saw matches with her playing agressive tennis. Maybe i just had the luck to watch the wrong matches? :o Cause what i've seen from her based on this year i'm not impressed at all. Yet... she could turn into the second coming of anastasia myskina. Honestly, Caroline seems like a sweetheart

I thought that until the incident in her last match vs Deme when she made Deme wait to serve at 3*-4 40-40 by deciding she needed to go fiddle with the strings on her racket. Got a warning for that.

Then she was allegedly near death vs Lena in their SF in PVB, taking timeouts and etc - can't have helped Lena - then miraculously turns out to play a 2.5 hrs doubles match later that day. Go figure.

Wozniacki and Myskina play nothing alike.

That is true. Nastya hit a very flat ball and Caroline hits wins a lot of topspin. Nastya was also faster, although both girls hit well on the run when playing their best. Nastya's shot making tended to be quite high risk although when she was on it was a sight to behold. Nastya could also play with much more margin for error at times in her career but mostly she didn't. Infact Nastya's seemed to have several game styles at her disposal and yet it was like she didn't always have access to them all. She had an "A" game, a "B" game and a "C" game but often only took one of these to the court with her. Caroline pretty much always hits the ball with the same big margin for error. It is not the most exciting game at all but it is very effective.

Personally I would say Wozniacki's game is much more like a young Dementieva's. Sure the Elena of today has more power than does Caroline currently, but when Elena was younger she hit quite simarly to how Caroline hits now. Caroline will develop more power as she gets older.

Elena is clueless facing pushers

Sometimes. But she has disposed of B-list defensive grinders (Peer, Medina, Cibulkova) quite effectively over the past couple of seasons or so. As she should, since she plays this baseline grinding thing better than anybody else save for Jankovic.

Wozniacki presents a slightly different challenge in that she has a good serve (and above all hasn't got the puffball 2nd serve common in several players of her type, and can be quite hard to break) and doesn't give away that many short balls to pounce on. Plus she always seems confident that her own game is enough to beat Lena D. if she keeps at it long enough. Nevertheless, I have no idea why she's such a bad matchup for Lena D. rather than the other way around.

Wozniacki may be a bit spent, but I see no reason for her to tank - particularly considering that if she gets past Lena D., the title is hers.

Still, I believe that Lena D. could win easily if she kept her head together and played a smart match. Yeah, I know - when Hell freezes over.

So I have to agree with

Wozniacki in two sets , specially after seeing the way she is defending this week

Caroline will develop more power as she gets older.

She won't unless she fixes her groundstrokes, particularly the FH. Not that she needs that much power to play her current game (moonballing from corner to corner).

Well Caro officially blew the 2nd set. I picked Caro in 3 though, so maybe I'll be right :)

Now we need new predictions. Does Caro fight back or fall apart?
She lost 5 games in arow, but Lena is not playing great.

She won't win now!

Elena wins 4-6 7-5 6-1

Nice try Caro

If Elena gets her game together, Caro's game won't be too effective.

It think it was 5 of the last 6, not 5 in a row. Still sucks though
