View Full Version : Maria Fernanda Alvarez-Teran

Apr 16th, 2009, 11:08 AM
I didn't realize she didn't have a cheering thread  She's ranked inside Top250, she has to have one! :worship:
She's currently having a very good year, reaching career-high ranks every second week or so ;)
She probably won't get into RG qualies but should get into Wimbledon qualies. I wonder if she plays there :tape:

Good luck Maria! :rocker:

Apr 16th, 2009, 01:45 PM
The other day I was thinking to open a cheering thread for Ma.Fernanda so thanks for creating Freaken :yeah:
I know that you have been follow her results since some years ago and usually cheer up for her.

Vamos Ma.Fernanda
Bolivia Tennis Star :bounce:

Apr 16th, 2009, 11:15 PM
Great!! Thanks Freakan!! I'm new to this thread sites, and I was thinking about starting a thread for Nanda, but just didn't know how to do it. I'm from Bolivia also and I follow Nanda's results and news always, I've posted a couple of comments before, asking people who have seen her play, what they think about her game. At that time María Fernanda wasn't in a good physical shape, but I've read she's more fit now, and it is starting to show in her results. Her best victories sofar I guess have been over Coco Vandeweghe last week (4-6 6-3 7-6), Soledad Esperon twice last year, and Agustina Lepore twice also. And a curious note, she beat Dominika Cibulkova (ranked WTA 16th last week) when they played juniors.

Thanks again Freakan for the thread!

Apr 16th, 2009, 11:28 PM
She´s a very talented player. Hope her the best

Apr 17th, 2009, 11:51 AM
I actually follow her results sinc early stages of her junior career and I know she's talented so it's very dissapointing to see that she's losing easily to players like Tadeja Majeric :(
She's clealry playing better in tournaments that take place in South America or Mexico.
Osprey, 25k:
R1. Alvarez Teran d. Prousis 6:4 6:1
R2: Majeric d. Alvarez Teran 7:5 6:1

Apr 17th, 2009, 04:36 PM
Yes, it's very dissapointing to see her beating a player like Vandeweghe and then loose to players like Majeric, Tan or Harmsen. I don't know if the problem is in her head or she still has some weight problems. Has anyone seen her play lately? She never plays here in Bolivia so I don´t know how her fitness or game is.

Apr 17th, 2009, 09:54 PM
I dont think that her problem is her head, she have won a lot of match with a very close scoreline.

She is in the semis as the third seed...

there are some videos of her here:

she still needs to get more fit and i think she needs to work on her backhand some but she hits a nice ball and definitely could go high in the rankings if she works hard

good luck in the semis MFA!

Aug 1st, 2009, 04:53 PM
Her semifinal match just finished. She won and now is in the final against the winner of Maria Fernanda Alves and Ana Clara Duarte. She's got a nice chance to win the tournament.
I agree that she still needs to work on her fitness, even though she's improved a lot from last year (she was soo out of shape).
Good luck in the final Nanda!

Aug 25th, 2009, 11:28 PM

Q1: lost to 9- Parmentier (FRA) 6-2 6-2 (tough draw )

Aug 26th, 2009, 03:48 AM

Felicidades Nanda y suerte!!

What's going on with Nanda?? Is her physical form bad again? Or maybe lack of confidence? She just lost to Glushko 6-0 in the third, having won 6-1 in the first and losing the second in a tiebreak. Last week the same thing, losing to Lucic 6-1 in the third having won 6-3 in the first. a couple of weeks ago she lost to Koch-Benvenuto 6-4, 6-2 after being "4-0" in the first set. What is happening? Running out of fuel?

Qué pasa Nanda? A ponerse las pilas!! :help::mad:

Her first serve gave a lot of free points and also made a great shot selection moving her opponent side to side, the weakest part of her game was her backhand a lot of mistakes with it and most of time becauce she did not put top spin on it and the ball was long.
Her movement was okey but I have seen her moving better in the past.

Good luck Nanda :cheer:

May 6th, 2011, 09:59 PM
I also saw her in the livestream yesterday and it surprised me how much she improved the serve!!!

When I saw her in the 25 K in BA I wrote in the thread that she won weight again, but now her game is different. Her serve is giving her a lot of free points and she mades a lot of winners with her forehand.

I don't know what happens to Nanda  She lost again to Nakamura, and not even a close score.

There are some players with whom she always has problems and her scores against them are always painful losses: Nakamura, Conny Perrin, Ryzhonkova, Andrea Koch. And she has beaten far better players than this ones, like Mladenovic, Tomljanovic and Vandeweghe for example.

I don't get this!

A little note in a local newspaper about the future of Nanda. Not the best article, since it has some errors like Nanda's best ranking (187 instead of 180) and how many titles she has won (9 instead of 7), but at least it has some information about what her future plans are.

From what I understood, there is no specific date/placa of her comeback, right?
Btw. being Bolivian, do you know why Maria Paula Deheza isn't playing any tournaments?

Mar 4th, 2012, 07:54 PM
She's recovering from a shoulder surgery she took in january if I'm not mistaken. Seems like it was kind of a serious injury, cause she's not signed in any of the last Cosat tour tournaments in Brazil.

María Fernanda figura en la lista de jugadoras de la página de Londres 2012, todavía no se descifró por qué. Entren al thread de las Olimpíadas y ahí pueden verlo, hay varios foristas que también se preguntan por qué figura ahí.

Chicos, no hace falta agredir.

Exactly. She is in the list mention above.
The athletes listed have not been confirmed, nor is the list inclusive of all participants. More athlete profiles may be added or removed at any time so if she is there she could actually play or not.Would be great if goes but with Mary and Vero already there, her chances are really slim.

Nanda has been having an awful singles year sofar. Seems like she's not in a good form, lacking confidence and is loosing to mediocre players :tape::help::sad:

However... she's playing more doubles and this monday she reached her career-high doubles ranking (165).

Right now she's playing in Washington, the City Open (WTA event), with the american Kery Wong, and they are now in the semifinals!!:eek::eek::eek: Next are number 1 seeded Aoyama and Dushevina :scared:

With Wong they had played 4 tournaments before, had won 3 of them and lost in the semis and the other one.

Didn't see this coming!

You beat me Legion, I was about to post that she's back on tour after 8 months out of the circuit. Her last match was the first week of may in Korea (Incheon 25k) where she retired in the SF match against Celik. She's playing two 10k in Guadeloupe as a preparation for the Fed Cup (Americas Group 1) in México the first week of february. Tomorrow she plays Ayaka Okuno (seeded 3) of Japan. Good luck Nanda!

Jan 20th, 2015, 06:34 PM
Won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Good win for a comeback, but is still a long way to compete at a level she could compete. Could only hold her serve once in the first set, and was up 5-0 in the third. Good thing she managed to win this match. Keep working Nanda!

Jan 26th, 2015, 01:46 PM
Better luck this week Nanda, it was not a bad return to the tour reaching the QF. Hopefully this week could do better.
