VenusSerena
Sep 4th, 2002, 02:59 AM
this was taken from the wonder www.venusserenafans.com Forum! Hantuchova in the top 10!

When I initially did the #'s for the rankings to the USO QF I presumed that Hingis will beat Seles today, so after Hingis lost I changed the numbers but not the order of ranking for the bottom last three players. So, here is the correct of order of ranking as it stands now:

Martina Hingis has fallen out of the WTA top 10 for the first time in her career. Please welcome Daniela Hantuchova to the top 10.

WTA Top 11 Points and Rankings to the US Open quarterfinals:

1. Serena.................4504 + 246 = 4750
2. Venus..................4111 + 244 = 4355
3. Capriati...............3677 + 230 = 3907
4. Seles..................3041 + 286 = 3327
5. Dokic..................3192 + 118 = 3310* (substitution of 18th tournament)
6. Henin..................2896 + 122 = 3018
7. Clijsters..............2763 + 122 = 2885
8. Mauresmo...............2360 + 310 = 2670
9. Hantuchova............2212.75 + 322 = 2534.75
10.Davenport.............2244 + 252 = 2496
11. Hingis.................2283 + 144 = 2427

* #61 Bovina..............539.5 + 330 = 869.5. She should rise to about # 40.

laj.

Good news, so far, cappy can get back to number 2 looking at those number (if she advances farther than venus, but i could be wrong). But i think Venus will triump and cappy wont. and then when you look at the numbers, really Mauresmo is the only one that can catch up. If mauresmo beats cappy tomorrow, cappy will loose more points cuz she got to the semis last year. Lindsay is only gaining, but can't get into the top 5 yet. But Venus and Serena will distance themsleves bigtime if They both make it to the finals again! And if Venus defeats Serena, she will get those 100 bonus points for beating the number 1 player! And get closer to number 1! But really, for anyone to contend of number 2, and break the family at the top, Jennifer is going to have to get to the finals!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Not Hantuchkova:fiery: Okay, now is the time to test my theory that she can not stay in the top ten consistantly. If all else fails, I will have to get Tanner up to to take her place in the top ten.

Martina has 2514 pts
she is still in top 10@#10

Chanda Rubin deserves to be in top 10 and Kim Clijsters out.

I think martina will drop to 10 unless Daniela beats Serena

Volcana
Sep 4th, 2002, 03:15 AM
Actually, Venus would get 200 points for beating Serena. Bonus points are doubled for GS events, aren't they?

VenusSerena
Sep 4th, 2002, 03:16 AM
i really don't know, but how does martina have those points, where are you getting them that she is still in the top 10? i think you may be wrong there!

Hingis pts at 26 Aug ranks 2746
2001 US Open Pts 376

2746-376=2370 + 2002 US Open pts 144 = 2514

Martina is 10th, Daniela 11th. That's how they will be next week.

Why Kim out? She made it to a final a few weeks ago (lost to Venus) and has made significant improvements to her game since recovering from her injury and getting a new coach

...and keep in mind that in this tournament she lost to another top 10 player (7-5 in 3rd set)

Hingis is still No. 10. And Hantuchova might not just breeze on in this fall, because she's got some substantial points to defend.

Richie77
Sep 4th, 2002, 05:05 AM
Hantuchova has to defend:

Leipzig QF - 130 points
Filderstadt 1st + qualifying - 28 points
Zurich QF - 147 points
Luxembourg 2nd - 24 points

Hingis, meanwhile actually doesn't have a lot to defend, since she got injured last fall:

Moscow QF - 67 points
Filderstadt SF - 135 points

WHY

She had a shoulder injury! After her six-weeks-rest, she could only pratice every other day. She couldn't play all the tournaments she intended to play and she still managed to stay in the top ten.
I don't see any reason why Kim does not deserve her #7 spot.

Yeh ... these rankings are wrong ... and Monica is 1 point still behind Jelena

if martina has a bad fall and she can't defend her points at the start of next year then she migh fall out for a while but I am sure she will be back in the top 10 in a year when she gets her old level back again!

Tennis corner says that Martina will be still in the 10 spot and hantuchova in 11

see:

1 Serena Williams (USA) 4950
2 Venus Williams (USA) 4363
3 Jennifer Capriati (USA) 3759
4 Jelena Dokic (YUG) 3310
5 Monica Seles (USA) 3309
6 Justine Henin (BEL) 3000
7 Kim Clijsters (BEL) 2730
8 Lindsay Davenport (USA) 2680
9 Amelie Mauresmo (FRA) 2646
10 Martina Hingis (SUI) 2514
11 Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) 2484.75

That's depressing

Canek
Sep 4th, 2002, 08:40 AM
but Martina has just 12 tournaments played, while hantuchova 24, besides almost the rest of the year (and a good part of the next year) she has not points to defend. so if she is free from injuries, martina will advance in ranking, rapidly ;)

Don't worry, she'll be back in in soon:)

Well, I stopped by because I thought maybe my numbers were wrong. Nope. ;)

As for Bello's stupid comment about Kim not belonging in the top ten...I say RUBBISH. I just saw her play an amazing match against a very hot Amelie Monday nite. Definitely right where she belongs, especially considering that she's struggled with an arm problem for quite some time. Pffft. Get a clue.

Especially after Monica beat Martina so convincingly, I can't believe Monica will not be number 4! I can't see her behind Dokic..no offence to dokic but I think Dokic's real ranking should be 8,9 or 10. She just plays so much. BUt she has tons of points to defend this fall so I think she'll drop in the rankings while Martina goes up.

By year end this shd be the rankings:
1. Serena
2. Venus
3. Jennifer
4. Monica
5. Martina
6. Amelie
7. Kim
8. Justine
9. Daniela
10. Jelena

Note: Hard to see Davenport in the top 10 as the reason she's top 10 now is because of the 1000 plus pts she got from her superb fall season of 2001!

Yep Lindsay will be No.8, unfortunaely though she will drop down to the 20's unless she can defend all her points, which is highly unlikely, although then she will have no points to defend in the first 8 months of 2003 but expect some tough grand slam matches because she will be set to play Top 8 players in 3rd round right.

lukehingis
Sep 4th, 2002, 11:05 AM
I think lindsay will be eight unless Amelie beats jennifer and reach the semis...then amelie will be 8 and Lindsay 9

irma
Sep 4th, 2002, 11:12 AM
according to the yearranking lindsay will move to around 21 with the us open points so when she plays well in the indoorseason she can still get in the top 16 this year!

irma
Sep 4th, 2002, 11:14 AM
or better staying there!

mishar
Sep 4th, 2002, 12:46 PM
Yeah, judging from her play, Lindsay should be back in the top 12 by the end of the year even if she wins no indoor tournaments, just makes semis and finals.
Dokic had better pick it up if she's going to defend her huge # of points in the indoor season.

Martina has room to advance, but only if she starts to play better. There are going to be some tough draws in Filderstadt and Zurich!

QUEENLINDSAY

Watch Out for Lindsay in the Indoor Season.
She does'nt care about the ranking. There will be no surprise if she will defended all her points in the indoor for she is the "Queen of Indoors"

GO LINDSAY!!!!!!
BY this time, you are fully back and even better than last year.

Things Hingis-fans try to ignore is the fact that she will be seeded 5-8 in most European indoor events and could well face the Williams as early as the quarterfinals, same as Jennifer.

I doubt that she will rise the rankings as soon as Hingis-fans wish her to do. Especially, considering the fact, she might be seeded 9th then for the L.A. tournament if they continue the Davenport-seeding-policy. I think Hingis will remain top8-10 in the next couple of months, should fall maybe in the early weeks of 2003 and rise then again when she has nothing to defend on clay.

Dani is getting so close to the top 10 now!

I just hope Monica plays Bahia or Tokyo so she doesn't loose all those points.

Tokyo(Tier 3) and Shanghai i don't care about!

and wasnt there some rumours about WC's into chase?
Lindsay could get this?

I'm just wondering...
If Lindsay will drop around 15 then tournaments draws will have some exciting early round clashes.

Nimi

Just wanted to say that Martina will drop out of the top 10 after Tokyo unless a miracle happends. Though i think after RG she will be safely a top 10 player.

If martina wins the aussie open it'll be another story!

ChrisGermany
Sep 5th, 2002, 08:33 AM
Do you think so Luke ?

I cannot understand your thoughts, Hingis-fans. She won Sydney and was in the AUS Open final. With both the Williams, Jennifer, Kim, Lindsay, Justine Monica, Amelie and Daniela around, she won´t repeat that for sure - reaching a final or the semis, for sure, but that all depends on the luck of the draw.

And if having to defend Sydney, winning the final in Melbourne instead of losing it won´t have the effect you dream of - wake up ! Martina´s return to the top5 won´t come as early as the clay season - if at all

Year end rankings

1.Serena OR Venus (because Vee is playing more tournies and has no points to defend)
3.Jennifer Capriati
4.Monica Seles (take a couple of WC's!)
5.Amelie Mauresmo (Playing Great)
6.Justine Henin (Up and Down)
7.Jelena Dokic (too shaky, too many pts to defend)
8.Kim Clijsters (Same as Dokic)
9.Daniela Hantuchova (should break in)
10.Martina Hingis OR Chanda Rubin

Lindsay has too many pts to defend

The thread originator must be really upset that Martina managed to hang on to the top ten despite missing the French, wimby, the clay court season, most of the summer hard court season, almost all of the fall and the championships. Of course she will fall far next year if she even plays but it's sad how happy people were that martina was falling because she was injured.

Yeah there's no doubt in my mind that Hingis deserved to end the year inside the top 10! Had she of not gotten injured I would say she would of ended the year 2 or 3 and possibly won a grand slam!!!

LoL I never thought I'd see the day that Martina fans were actually HAPPY she was number ten! I know the field is deeper than it has ever been but Who would have thought a champion would be on the verge of retirement. She needs to do something about her las century tennis game.
