Is it just me or this year's selection of WC will be terrible? :tape:

I think last year or 2 years ago there were top 200 players who couldn't get a MD WC...the level of French players has decreased dramatically :help:

^bibi^
Apr 14th, 2009, 07:17 AM
Well I'm not sure the other years there were 13 players automatically qualified for the MD either.. most of those who are directly in now are former WC recipients (Bremond, Cohen-Aloro, Foretz, Parmentier, Johansson, etc...)

Now let's see who might get a WC :

Already IN :

13 (13) BARTOLI, MARION FRA
15 (14) CORNET, ALIZE FRA
21 (19) MAURESMO, AMELIE FRA
42 (41) RAZZANO, VIRGINIE FRA
60 (66) DECHY, NATHALIE FRA
64 (59) JOHANSSON, MATHILDE FRA
69 (70) COIN, JULIE FRA
74 (68) BREMOND, SEVERINE FRA
77 (78) PARMENTIER, PAULINE FRA
83 (94) REZAI, ARAVANE FRA
97 (96) COHEN-ALORO, STEPHANIE FRA
103 (102) FORETZ, STEPHANIE FRA
105 (103) PIN, CAMILLE FRA

Now those who didn't make it :

122 (120) LOIT, EMILIE FRA : I don't see her not getting a WC this year with ehr result last year... Even though she's not that young anymore (turns 30 this year), I still think she'll get the WC

201 (192) SANCHEZ, OLIVIA FRA Probably doesn't deserve a MD WC as she's losing in early rounds in 10k's, but still has a good chance to get it though...

213 (237) FEDOSSOVA, YOULIA FRA Will probably get one too as usual... Probably another waste of WC though...

253 (271) PAVLOVIC, IRENA FRA I don't think she ever get a MD WC, this year could be her chance.. Will get Qualies WC at least anyway I think...

265 (264) HARING, FLORENCE FRA : She' has a better ranking than last year when she didn't get a WC, this year I'd say Qualies WC again ?

279 (281) FEUERSTEIN, CLAIRE FRA Last year got a qualie WC... She's having some good result so definitely deserve a WC this year... Still doubt it would be a MD though... But they have to give them to somebody lol

289 (289) VEDY, AURELIE FRA Would be a total waste of WC IMHO

307 (308) LAISNE, KINNIE FRA : Maybe another Qualies WC ?

312 (314) VONGSOUTHI, STEPHANIE FRA She could also get a qualie WC, no MD WC I guess...

338 (339) HUCK, VIOLETTE FRA She got a Qualie WC 2 years ago and MD last year... Since that she dropped a lot in the rankings.. They may still give her a WC for the qualies...

342 (343) MRAZ, KARLA FRA also improved a lot, so may give her a Qualie WC too, it would be deserved...

386 (387) PICHET, VIRGINIE FRA : her best asset is being fedossova's best friend  but I doubt they'll waste yet another WC on her

387 (388) THORPE, LAURA FRA had a WC last year losing in three sets to Rolle... Maybe she'll get another one this year (I hope so :p)

For the following one,s it's gonna be harder and harder to get WC.. But I feel like they're gonna give quite a lot of WC to youngsters like Mladenovic, Rodier, Babet, Chala, Hesse etc... they could still keep a WC for Golovin too (lol)

Just to keep track here are all the other frenchies outside top 400 :

410 (378) GUISARD, ESTELLE FRA
437 (465) SCHOEFFEL, SAMANTHA FRA
509 (516) PIQUION, NATHALIE FRA
517 (522) BENAMAR, SHERAZAD FRA
566 (567) RODIER, CHARLOTTE FRA
662 (662) CHALA, CINDY FRA
672 (670) RADOVANOVIC, GRACIA FRA
673 (671) BABET, CHLOE FRA
693 (693) BERGOT, AUDREY FRA
696 (696) BACQUET, EMILIE FRA
741 (744) VERGOS, NADEGE FRA
748 (751) EVAIN, ANNE-VALERIE FRA
751 (755) VANNESTE, CHARLENE FRA
757 (760) GONCALVES, ADELINE FRA
774 (779) BRUNEL, DIANA FRA
786 (788) SAPENE, CAMILLE FRA
790 (792) SIBILLE, CONSTANCE FRA
798 (799) LEFEVRE, SOPHIE FRA
799 (801) GOLOVIN, TATIANA FRA
808 (812) LECHEMIA, ELIXANE FRA
852 (855) ANDRIEUX, MAILYNE FRA
862 (866) BAUDOUIN, MARIE-PERINE FRA
910 (913) MLADENOVIC, KRISTINA FRA
915 (918) HESSE, AMANDINE FRA
939 (941) HEITZ, ANNE-LAURE FRA
946 (949) LIM, ALIZE FRA
950 (953) MOHN, NATHALIE FRA
971 (973) LAURENDON, ANAIS FRA
993 (995) FICHEUX, SOLENE FRA
1013 (1015) GEORGES, MYRTILLE FRA
1017 (1019) CHEYMOL, DIANE FRA
1025 (1027) PONS, MORGANE FRA
1069 (1073) DIETRICH-ROGGE, ELODIE FRA
1091 (1093) GHESQUIERE, CELINE FRA
1091 (1093) AYASSAMY, VIRGINIE FRA

1124 (1125) GERVAIS, JULIE FRA

ANd just for fun here would be my picks :

MD WC :
Loit
Sanchez
Fedossova
Pavlovic
Mladenovic
Rodier
US WC - Keys ? lol
Oz WC - Probably Moore

Qualies WC :
Feuerstein
Huck
Thorpe
Rodier
Babet
Chala
Sapene
Junior WC - Halep (at least we know this one is correct  )

Btw does anyone know if the US WC will be a MD WC again this year or if they switched it back to a Qualies WC as before ?

Oz WC - Probably Moore

You can expect Moore(WC) vs Pavlovic(WC) in first round

they could still keep a WC for Golovin too (lol)

:spit:

Just out of interest, Tati hasn't played since 2006.

I would expect at least QWC's for Huck and Babet, possibly Lim as well as she's been recieving a lot of benefits lately.

Hmm I guess these are my picks:

1. Loît (they can't not after last year's showing)
2. Sanchez (bet they will)
3. Fedossova (nothing special, but I'd say she deserves one)
4. Hesse (seems to be liked by FFT, young and promising)
5. Vedy (seems like a good bet IMO)
6. Mladeonvic (she is young, got it at the Australian Open and almost beat Schnyder, definitely deserves it after that)
7. [US playoff winner]
8. [Australian wildcard] (probably Moore)

Yeah there is going to be a tough job picking who's deserving to get WCs especially since Vongsouthi & Guisard are not keeping the promises they made earlier in the season... Laisné & Rodier havent advance much since last year, both are terribly inconsistent. Basically they should all be into qualies!

My picks:
1. Loit (100% sure given how well she played in Paris indoors and RG last year)
2. Sanchez
3. Fedossova (I would normally complain but she has had solid results this year)
4. Mladenovic (:p)
5. Huck (had one last year already and lost in 3 sets to King ; won 2 titles on clay this season)
6. US
7. AUS
8. The last one is the toughest. I hope that they make an exception this year and give Halep a MD WC instead of QWC.

QWC
1. Mraz (:o but she deserves it)
2. Vongsouthi
3. Thorpe
4. Pavlovic
5. Feuerstein
6. Babet
7. Rodier
8. Laisné

Sapène won't have a WC for sure. She's just not committed enough into the WTA tour, I think she's good but makes weird decisions with her career. I wish Constance would have one but she's way too inconsistent. Benamar, Rodier & Laisné are among the favourites of the French Federation, it's something which counts a lot. Still, Sherazad is gonna play the Asian tour so I don't think she aims at playing RG.

Amandine could have gotten one but she's out due to a knee injury. Cindy will be back only in the beginning of May, Im afraid it will be too short for her to prove she's worth of a WC. Shame 'cause the girl is talented. To finish, Gracia is just not liked by the FFT now so no WC.

I think
1. Loît (I think it would be very harsh not to reward Emilie with a WC, being a vetren shouldn't be held against her, did well last year but more than anything has been in the French Top 5 or 6 for 6 or 7 years)
2. Sanchez (well I for one really like her- disappointed with her end of 08 and this year so far....but lets hope they do!)
3. Fedossova (has a few in the past- and one to the OZ Open too- I saw her, she can play, dunno why she is ranked here, still youngish, maybe last chance)
4. Pavlovic (similar to Fedosova, good junior, not great ITF/WTA ranks, but still think she should get the nod)
5. Mladeonvic (Sure beet. Got Australian Open will get one here)
6. Either Laisne, Chala or Hesse- all young, talent, good juniors
7. [US playoff winner](presume Glatch, Oudin, King, Albanese, Brengle, Keys, Coco & Muhammad will be invited to participate)
8. [Australian wildcard] (probably Moore, Ferguson (mini revival this year) outside bet Holland

QD WC's.
1 & 2- who ever misses out on no 6 spot MD WC- so Laisne, Chala or Hesse
3. Feurstein- good recent results, not sure if she has had one in past- def not MD though
4. Vongsouthi- think got one last year
5. Andriex
6. Huck
7 & 8 out of :
Rodier
Babet
Pichet(one last chance)
Haring (same as VP)

I think besides Loit and Mladenovic no one who would have a chance to win a match in MD, so they should just give the WC's to the hottest players, so there would be something nice to look at: Sanchez, Goncalves, Babet, Larriere, Hesse, Ramialison, Lim, Radovanovic, Chala, Pons  ;)

The USTA Wild Card tournament will start next week, and will feature sixteen players of which Ahn, Embree, Stephens, Gibbs and McHale are the only known names for now:

The wild card tournament to decide the main draw berth in the upcoming French Open begins next Tuesday with eight men vying for the spot. The women's event, which will NOT be a round robin format, but rather single elimination and a 16-player draw, will be played from April 29 through May 2. The competition will be held at the Boca West Country Club. (http://www.bocawestcc.org/Default.aspx?p=DynamicModule&pageid=254098&ssid=113200&vnf=1)

As soon as I am notified of the participants, I will pass that information along. Juniors I spoke to in California who said they were planning to play the women's event were Kristie Ahn, Lauren Embree, Christina McHale, Nicole Gibbs and Sloane Stephens.

They should do like Wimbledon did last year and award WC to really good and promising players, no matter their nationality.

But then they are French...Mladenovic (who lost 60 60 vs Dulgheru today) will be in MD and Dulgheru won't be able to play qualies...

I don't think she will. I just think she is kind of dumb... She said she wants to use her wildcards at Roland Garros, Stanford, and Toronto. Now she is from none of those countries, and I know she disagrees, but there are lots of other [better] junior players. I see no reason why those tournaments would give her wildcards, and I don't think they will.

I think Wimbledon could give Michelle a WC this year. They said they are not going to offer them to Brits outside the top 250, so at most only 5 Brits will get Wild cards - 1 of them the junior champ Robson, two of them have a good chance to make the MD on merit: South & O'Brien. Meaning there could be 5 international WC's up for grabs there. They seem to like giving the youngsters a chance - they gave Pavlyuchenkova one when she was 15 a few years ago, plus I don't really see anyone else who is worthy  But they definately won't give MLBD a WC at RG, that's just ridiculous

If you say Feuerstein's losses are bad, Laisne lost to Koek,Sanchez-Quintanar & Grymalska this year and her best win this season came against Magali de Lattre [#478] in 11 tournaments!
I mean I wouldn't even say she is undeserving as she won a match in Q last year, but unless she finds her "Denain form" she will struggle to win a match!

7. [US playoff winner]
8. [Australian wildcard] (probably Moore)
