Due to late entry, Marion will play qualies in Ponte Vedra, like Francesca Schiavone in Hobart 2009 and Agnes Szavay in Bogota 2009. She needs to play ties and has nothing to lose. Just play and have fun.

Waiting for the draw.

She should not be playing tennis.

Yeah that's what Im telling myself. If the point was to embarrass herself, I think she shouldn't have bothered asking a QWC in Ponte Vedra. Tsss, will she ever stop having those inexplicable slumps during her seasons?

WHAT THE HELL. Im scared. It must be the mono back again... :(

I hate this. She looks likely to win the second set, 4-2 up, but losing a set 6-1 to a player ranked 170? It must be something.

The problem is, she loves tennis too much.

She plays when, honestly, she shouldn't be. She was injured at the FO last year. She played hampered at the YEC 07, and we all know what happened there.

I admire Walter. He has done a lot for her, but he also messes her up too. He's always messing about with her serve (12 double faults in this match) or with her body shape, and it's not good for her. She never has that secure game.

I want the 07 Marion back. The one who could hit as little as 4 errors per set, the one who usually had such a high first serve percentage. Yes, she had some shock losses back then, but that year was still the most consistent she has ever been.

Dave.

As long as she is winning....but whatever it is, sort it out! She had an encouraging start to the year, don't go down that road again

I agree with you, unfortunately she will never consider changing this part. I still have hope that she keeps this high standard record this season but these kinds of matches are not helping to stay positive. Marion will always have health issues and as you said, rather than taking a break, she keeps on playing. Imagine now that she has only reached QR2. Long way to go till the title :help:

Get some rest & crush Pegula tomorrow. She shouldn't lose more than 3 games.

Im scared about Sesil. Getting into the MD on a LL wont be the same as winning. You might be right;however,Marion has a history of being injury- and illness-prone.This position she's in is sort of flukish and we're unlikely to see it again anytime soon. It'd be a shame if she tore her achilles tendon in a match that she didn't even need to win:eek:.I'm thinking that she should sort of take it easy:Staying competitive w/o overexerting herself. She could use this match to experiment with some stuff that she may've been working on in practice. She doesn't wanna wear herself out in qualies while the main draw gals are rested up.If she wins,great...if not,she still enters the MD as an LL and her confidence shouldn't be hurt at all by a loss when she knows inside that she treated the match as a kind of athletic scrimmage.

Alizé Molik
Apr 6th, 2009, 03:42 AM
I'm not overly worried about Karatantcheva, yes she was a promising player when she was on drugs several years ago, but she has achieved little so far in her comeback to, I believe, really trouble a top 15 player.

and don't be fooled by the Stevenson name, she's not the player she was in the late 90s, I watched her get soundly beaten by an average top 200 player at the AO.

Well,my class starts in about ten minutes so here's a parting thought:As I said yesterday, this is sort of a unique situation for Marion in that she didn't HAVE to win. It's her 3rd match in 3 days so aye HOPE that she conserved her energy somewhat in not going all out.If she just spent 2 hours running sideline to sideline then she'll be at a decided disadvantage tomorrow versus a player who's totally fresh...while Marion would be on her 4th match in 4 days:eek:.Ordinarily, you'd ALWAYS go for the win,but my main concern is that our Corsican queen :hearts:Marion:hearts: has a good tourney so I'd rather she tanked today's match rather than exhaust herself for the 1st round....We'll see how she does....VAMOS,Marion!!:bounce:

She did have quite a big lead in the match, I remember.

But this is green clay. Patty has beat Peak Serena, Capriati and Henin on this surface. Plus, she is just a much better clay courter than Marion in general.

However, she has had a very poor start to year. It will be interesting if they do play.
I hope Marion draws Galina though.

Apr 6th, 2009, 09:45 PM
Now the tournament really begins. Let's pretend Marion is actually seeded and just got a high ranked first opponent to begin her route to the title... Well given the draw and how hard her qualies breakthrough has been, it's surely pretentious to look that far  It's more about getting as many victories as possible on this surface which has never provided spectacular results to her.

I just have 2 worries:
- did she change her serve motion again?! How can we explain the tons of DFs she has been hitting? I really hope she didn't because she finally found something good in Australia/Dubai. Anyway there IS a problem with this serve.
- is she fit/healthy enough to be able to play so many matches again? I mean, these 3 wins were not pretty, Marion chose the hard way... On the other hand it was really necessary after this one month-shortage.

Allez Baba, crush this cheap monkey. :armed:

Her best 17 is 120 points. So no need of these points. Her father said that she was almost ready to let QR1 to Lauren Albanese.

In this tie, Marion led 1st set 5-1, 2nd set 4-1 and 3-1 3rd set. I'm not sure that she really wanted to win. Maybe I'm wrong.
I agree with you, she certainly didn't want to push herself for too much as her goal is to play well in Charleston. But let's not try to find excuses on the other hand.

As I didn't want to follow third set, I repeat what a poster said on a french forum : 1st set 4-0, 2nd set 4-1 and 3nd set 3-1.

Coach Walter confirms that the main goals are Madrid and Roland garros. And he pushed Marion to play knowing that she needs time in order to be competitive on clay. That's the same thing every year. Remember 2007 with Estoril, Prague, Strasbourg and RG. So, practice in the morning and match in the afternoon.

And no excuses. But I just want to say she always led in the beginning of the sets.

She played much smaller clay court events in 07. Madrid is premier mandatory, I believe, so she has to play anyway.

Last year she played Charelston, Berlin and Rome, going 3-3 in these tournamets. I'm not sure what her schedule is, but she probably will only play higher tier clay court tournaments. Not a good idea in my opinion because, as we know, her worst surface is clay by far. I think it's better for her to play international tournaments. She has a much better chance to win several matches.

Thanks for letting me know. Just as I thought it would be, all higher level warm up tournaments.

She has 3rd points (Not a lot, but there are no 1st round byes anymore) to defend in Rome and Charelston. She can gain points in Madrid, Stuttgart and RG.

I'll be very suprised if she doesn't play Strasbourg.

I'm just so desperate for Marion to do well :( everytime she slumps it reminds me of Alicia's slump and then retirement and I don't like it
