Women’s Night Session in Arthur Ashe Stadium breaks record with 23,145 fans

Flushing Meadows, NY – Women’s tennis achieved another milestone last night, as a record crowd of 23,145 fans filled Arthur Ashe Stadium for the first ever all-women’s night session in US Open history. The previous night session record was set on September 3, 2000.

“Ladies Night” at the US Open began with former world No. 1 and US Open champion Martina Hingis defeating South Africa’s Amanda Coetzer. Then three-time Grand Slam champion Jennifer Capriati defeated fellow American Meghann Shaughnessy to earn a spot in the fourth round. The night session concluded with 2002 Australian Open doubles champions Hingis and Anna Kournikova beating the American team of Laura Granville and Jennifer Hopkins.

well of course they are setting records when you've got two chances in one night to see Martina plus Jenn and the beautiful Kournikova and cute Amanda. :)

That's great :D, but why the heck would someone want to sit on the top level of the stadium and have to use binoculars just to see the ball?:rolleyes:
