Thought I might as well start the thread since the draw is out. I want a quarter final finish at least Marion. :p Ill forgive you if Sveta plays well, but that looks unlikely for the moment. Thank god Vera is no where near her.

Only a second round finish last year (Or first? Did they have byes last year?), so great chance for some points.

She lost 3 and 1 to Wozniacki last year after a first round bye.
We should take this one match at a time.

Will most likely play Olga Govortsova in the 2nd round. Olga beat Marion last year in Amelia Island despite Marion having several break points to serve for that match, but that was on clay. I expect Marion to win this if they are to meet.

Bon, let's be clear : it's a good draw, a very good draw.

Still, I will feel more confident when Marion will kick this fat clown of Govortsova out of the draw. It's really important that she goes far here, a double 5 in her 16 best wouldn't be cool at all. Allez Baba, clean Indian Wells' dust out of your racket and take your chances! :hearts:

No doubts. Marion couldn't have expected a better draw. Govortsova, Kleybanova, Kuznetsova or A. Bondarenko, it's possible to do something. Nor Vika, neither Zvo. And Caro in Lena's draw. Let's hope something great.

This is probably the first draw other then Monterrey that im happy about to begin, Brisbane had Ana who had beaten her last fall, Vera in AO, Vera again in Dubai, then Peer and Vika in IWs. Im so happy she finally got a good draw, its encouraging. :worship:

If Alisa is fully recovered, this will probably happen. If is the key word here.

hey guys, its been a while since ive been on the site but it feels good to be back.

anyway i felt so much better after i saw the draw, because we are right, she does have a good draw and a chance to do some damage. Kuz isnt at the top of her game right now and i feel like Marion could def see reach the quarters. Marion has better movement than Alisa and can have a 2nd round match that will give her confidence. Kuz has a tougher section with Vaidisova and Alona. I feel like even Niculescu could even cause Kuz some trouble and even force a third. Vaidisova is very streaky and i feel like now i can never tell when she can win or lose. Alona is also not really peaking lately so i feel like marion has the power in her court, she just has to stay consistent like AO. good luck Marion! hope i can see pictures!

Marionettes,I have something highly superficial that may yet manage to boost your spirits:The gorgeous,dark-haired Ana:hearts: beat Yakimova in her opening 2nd-round match, after being 1-0 H2H previously, and then made it all the way to the final of an elite, windy tournament. The gorgeous,dark-haired :hearts:Marion:hearts: may ALSO face Yakimova...after being 1-0 H2H previously.........with hopes of making the final at a windy, elite tournament....................I hope that we all see an amazing confluence of coincidence...with the possible variation that Marion actually WINS the final;)

Last year, she was still ill. On my opinion, she's confident.

Good. Despite the fact that she has been pretty impressive in this match, I still think she makes a better opponent for Marion than Olga. However, let's not think about the victory before Marion converts the final MP, Nastya has a pretty decent record this season.

Marionettes,a friend asked me how I felt Marion would fare in a potential,round-of-16 matchup with Kuznetsova.Their H2H is a non-factor as they've only played twice, once back at the 2005 AO when Marion was only ranked 39th in the world.Any thoughts on how our :hearts:Corsican Queen:hearts: matches up with the Russian?(apparently the only one;))

From GM.
Watching there live, Bartoli seemed to be affected by something, i dunno? lethargic or something, but Yakimova plays great, and her defense is outstanding.

Bartoli needs to get off 10 pounds (5 kilos) from what i saw, she seems slimmer than on TV but she is not in shape compared to most of her peers.

Well, this place has been dead silent for a couple of days. That's why I was wondering ;)
It's just very long to wait for the next tournament now... 2 matches in one month and the next one coming only in 2 weeks, wow, that's very little! At least Marion has time to rest herself & be in better form.

I don't think it will be useful as regards her rank but as she needs to play matches, I won't complain about the decision :)

I don't about this decision to be constantly playing if she is unwell.

I heart Masha informed me in his GM thread that she looked sick when he met her Miami. He/She will write a report on the match.

Next up was Bartoli and Yakimova on court 3. Szavai had just finished up on this court, and as I walked in, I saw Marion walking toward me from the stands--she had been watching the prior match from the bleachers instead of waiting in the locker room! You don't see that much in Miami...As she was patiently navigating toward the court entrance, I said "Hello, Marion! Good luck!" as we were face to face. She said "thank you" but looked a little subdued. I really think she wasn't feeling well. By the end of warm up, she was sweating quite a bit. Her legs, especially, were covered in sweat. She was broken early, and while she broke back and leveled at 2-2, that was the high point of the day for her. She was making tons of UEs, but credit Yakimova for making her work harder out there than she obviously was able to. Near the end of the 1st set she called her Dad out for coaching, but he didn't have much to say, as I think they were both resigned to the fact that it just wasn't her day. Walter was sitting a row down and a couple of seats over from me in this match, and I really didn't see him change expressions the whole time.

Marion took an extended toilet break after set 1, and while she fought on in set 2, she just never got in a position where she was ahead, and I think that in and of itself probably weighed her down mentally and contributed to her defeat. Yakimova is short, and petite, and I think she just handled the heat better than Marion did. I made a few videos of Marion in this match, including one of her footwork on the serve, which is among the oddest and most mechanical you'll ever see.

Marion looked over to the stands a lot, and I let her know I was supporting her by demonstratively clapping (so did some others) but I think she was looking for answers more than anything.

Maybe it was just the heat. Remember she played awfully in the AO QF when it was hot.
