both vika and bepa are playing really well.so i get a feeling that vika azarenka and bepa can give really tough time to williams.though serena will always be a tough contender for the title.but i still feel vika, bepa are the darkhorses.wht do u think?

Dark horses? They have perfect 2009 W/L 12-0 record losing just two sets so far this season. Only Team-Williams and Black/Huber has slight better chances to win Miami.

No, but do I sense a kindred spirit?

Speaking of blond bangs and former owners of same, it's not a Slam, so Lena might have a chance against Rena.

Of course, it's not Fed Cup, so she has no chance a Vee. So it all depends on how the early rounds shake out.

I think she'll be in better form than at IW. Despite some good results there and all the guff she took for her admittedly less than graceful remarks, I don't think Elena's ever been as big on IW as she has Miami and the summer California events.

It's a new tournament, a new day.
I feel as though others in the top 5 and Venus are eager to play well,
particularly JJ and Safina as well as Lena D.

Stop with Azarenka
the girl has done nothing BIG yet!!

I've always said the biggest threat to the WS is Jankovic.
Maybe not the way JJ is playing right now but her game has everything to beat the WS

Maybe Vika since she might face Serena early on as in R16. What will Vera be seeded? IMO there's a bigger chance of Serena being ousted early on by a nobody than in the latter rounds by a top10 player.

Well, Vera will have the chance to prove her mettle should she and Serena both reach the QF.

No, many players can beat the Williams sisters. It just depends on if they're up for it this year.

No one can beat them.

Any of the following could beat them: Jelena, Ana, Vika, Bepa, Dinara, Elena, Svetla, or Aga. Depends on which players are "on" that day.

i feel venus could lose to anyone decent, she could also beat anyone, but for me shes still not over those unexplained loses, like CSN in oz.

serena im pretty sure only a handful of people can beat her and im pretty sure they will have to be on top form to do so in miami.

Not dark horses by definition as was pointed out. And no, they are not a threat to either of the Williams sisters. After Henin's retirement the latter usually lose — when they lose — to somebody who we, and they themselves, expect to lose least, or they lose to each other.

She was making a joke because you misspelled loser as looser, which means more loose. ;)

I wonder if Azarenka is already loose.

I seriously doubt it. Serena will be gunning for her third Miami in a row. Venus will be gunning for her third title in a row. The winner of the WS SF will be the winner of the tournament. :worship:

This is williams sister home.I could see only Vera and Li make Serena run for her money and no one stop Venus for SF because JJ is too slow at the moment unlike her form last fall.
SF will be as champion match.

Azarenka will not be a real contender at slams or big tournaments until the Williams retire. She just doesn't have the game to challenge the really good ones. If Clijsters and Henin comes back and Ivanovic and Jankovic starts playing well again, she probably never will.
