Haha:lol: second time nadal/murray final has produced a snooze fest. Our girls put on a better show though I am yet to see it. Caught some of the men's final. But the scoreline tells it all-btw it was windy all around

the wind killed any possibility of a good quality match...

but the first set was exciting!

Not really. Nadal played phenomenal tennis. Was Murray at his best? No. He could never get out of his snit once the paper flew onto the court. But it was quality shotmaking from one end of the court, with some very entertaining points. And they both handled the wind much, much, much better than the ladies.

I only saw the second set of the other final. Ana was beyond awful. If Bepa hit to her backhand, error. Bepa is my favorite top player, and she played a very smart match, but it wasn't very entertaining tennis.

The ATP trophy ceremony was also great. Rafa's speech was golden. The WTA needs a character like that.

No, not even close. They actually had somewhat interesting points. Although, I guess the women did too if you can count the comic element that their atrocious footwork and embarrassing judgmental skills added.

I only saw the first 3 games of the men's match and none of the women's (yet) and they seemed to handle the wind way better from how i hear people talking about the wind factor in Bepa's match. I don't know if that's b/c the wind died down, but the first few games at least were competitive and had some great rallies. I'll assume from the score that the quality of the men's match dropped considerably.

It was exciting, not necessarily good.
The men's final was great. Nadal kicking Murray's arrogant butt! Could it be any better?!

The womens match I heard was pretty bad because the wind was absolutely ridiculous

It was. There was about 10 odd lets because things kept blowing into the court, and a chair got blown over. Ana's dress also looked like a flag.

Murray played a brilliant match ;) It's just that he ran into Nadal!

To be honest the men's final was so boring  The only good thing about it was Nadal winning and destroying Murray in the process. Other than that it was pure shit!

I didn't watch the women's match so I can't compare.

LOL. Despite the scoreline, Nadal was playing pretty well considering that wind. Murray wasn't though, just couldn't get his feet going that extra half step with the wind, and his shots had nothing on them. Those slice forehands just cracked me up.

Yeah it was a good IW after a crazy week and I knew Nadal would bitch slap Murray, the women's final was more open.

Exactly. I don't care how amazing Nadal played - 1 and 2 isn't a competitive match. The women's final, apart from the comical side, actually had some drama in the latter stages of the 1st set.

you moron, you haven't even seen the matches but you are going on the scoreline, says all i need to know about you as a poster.

nadal put on a great show in terrible conditions. the womens final was truely a mess, bepa won with 5 winners, yes 5 winners in 21 games that 1 winner every 4 games.

you and this thread equals epic fail.

Had Ivanovic been a tad tougher, we would have had a whirlwind, uberdrama 3 setter, tears a guarantee.

i just hope miami is more compelling than indian wells.... a serena or venus victory is almost 100%, so i just hope the path to the final is an interesting one.. not like this indian wells snooze fest! sad to say the most exciting and most talked about thing at indian wells was maria's return to doubles!! ha!

Did you see on one point how awkward Vera had to hit a ball after Ana lobbed the ball and it stayed in the court?

Quality>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Quantity

I would rather see quality match easily won by Nadal/Federer than the error fest that is WTA.

teo_honey
Mar 23rd, 2009, 03:43 PM
True!

I used to blindly defend the WTA as some of you do, until I accidentally started watching more ATP and I'm embarrassed of my former opinion! I'm not saying the men deserve more money, but they definitely play better tennis. Their movement is better, their strokes, their tactics, their strength, their everything. Their matches aren't just longer, they're also more entertaining.

So it really doesn't matter that the men's final ended with a 6-1 6-2, the match was a lot more interesting to watch. They handled the conditions better and managed to provide some extraordinary shots that the ladies wouldn't be able to make even in a windproof bubble!

Clearly the women can never win with some people.

Serena plays brilliantly and defeats a bad Safina 60 63 - WTA sucks, blah blah blah.

Nadal plays brilliantly and defeats a bad Murray 61 62 - Nadal is wonderful, ATP is amazing. WTA sucks.

Please at least acknowledge the double standards and hypocrisy in your statements before you make them.

^^ As already stated, quality is more important than quantity. The scoreline doesn't matter if the quality is high. I'd rather see a 1&2 match of high quality than a closer match filled with errors.

no, serena played very well and beat a non existent safina, in a grand slam final 6-0, 6-3. nadal played stunning tennis given the conditions and beat murray who tried but just couldn't do anything against a player who is now on course to break most records in tennis (that was nadals 13th masters series event win, andre holds the record with 17, nadals still only 22).

Quality-wise, no

But the women's final was more EXCITING, especially the first set. And I found it fun to see the players hit those crazy shots just trying to defend themselves from the balls and win the point. The men's might have had better points, but it was over before I even knew what was happening and that is not interesting

Couldn't the same be said for Safina? She tried too but she was up against one of the best tennis players of all time.

Hmmmm...NOT. Safina was double faulting two times per game, and she look like she was about to cry. She just couldn't step up for the ocassion. I like her but that was sad to watch.

Both finals were horrid. The women's final was just ugly and this is coming from a Bepa & Ana fan. The wind played a major factor in that of course. The men's final was a bore due to Rafa's dominance of Andy. Tho I'm sure for Rafa fans it was a blast.:p

Mar 24th, 2009, 05:30 AM
bah the women's final was an error fest where Zvonareva played steady and Ivanovic made horrible error after error. The number of quality of points from Nadal and Murray far surpassed anything the women produced. Neither match was compelling viewing but Nadal was the only midly compelling player of the 4.

Exactly. :cuckoo: Serena is one of the best players of all time, and she played her A game in a Grand Slam Final. Not much anyone could have done really.

As for Nadal-Murray, Nadal is not really an all-time great hardcourt player yet. And Murray was non-existent. Worst I've seen him play in a Masters event or Grand Slam.
