Exerpt from AP after Vika's loss to Zvonareva:

----------------------------------
Azarenka, a 19-year-old who captured the first two titles of her career this year in Brisbane and Memphis, upset top-seeded Russian Dinara Safina in the quarter-finals, rallying from a set down.

She had her chances against Zvonareva in both sets. She failed to convert two break points in the ninth game to extend the first set, and also had three break chances in the eighth game of the second.

"A wasted match," was the despondent Azarenka's assessment as she bemoaned her 37 unforced errors. "Vera played good. I didn't do even 10 percent of my game today."

I just love Vika. This kid will be great! She is emulating Serena.

game plan b is the same as game plan a. as is game plan c, d....

i just play my game and it doesn't occur to me to try anything different even if it's only 10% effective and I'm in the semis of a Premier event.

I remain in hope that a player will emerge soon from the juniors for whom the words strategy and tactics are not just something other sportspeople do.

We do. If you talk the talk you've got to walk the walk. Azarenka isn't doing that yet, but, perhaps, she will eventually.

She certainly was not 100%, but neither was Vera. It is normal occurence in sport that you cannot give 100% all the time. The best of professional players are able to manage their form and give their best in the most important moments, this is probably the most tricky part of training regime coupled with managing ones schedule. Now, I don't know how you can make a statement that you were not 10%? How can you quantify such assessment? I don't think it is possible. Apart from that Victoria did really well in this tournament. Congratulations on that and reaching top 10 :yeah:

The majority of posters in this thread will be the first ones to complain about anything Serena says that's not fully complimentary of her opponents. Then they wonder why Serena fans are always on the defensive. It's hypocritical and they know it, so they shouldn't expect anyone to take them seriously when they start yapping about Serena not giving her opponents credit.

BTW, I have no problem with Vika assessing her game just as I don't have a problem when Serena says it either. It just bothers me that people change with the wind depending on who makes the remark.

So if Vera is upset, she can deal with Vika directly today

Agree. They had a hug after the match compared to the cold handshakes we see. Vika could have been emotionally down to a big win over Dinara in the QF and playing her doubles partner in the SF.

IMO this is an awesome attitude to have, never be satisfied with being just OK...push your game to the limit! Hand clap for the cocky bitches in the game haha! Your opponent has no say, you control the universe lol. I wonder if Vika has ever heard another player say this sort of thing ;-))

Please, I watched the Vika/Safina match and while Vika has some good points here and there if Dina had played better Vika would have gone home before this.

Dina was up 3/1 30/15 and Vika was on the brinks of tears with Dina double faulted the game away and then got frustrated.

I like Vika but I think she expends to much energy on court and that is going to be a problem for her in the future when she faces top players. She will most times get off to a good start but will more than like come down as tire herself out.

I doubt even if she had played at the level she played against Dina, she would have beaten Vera.
