First final since Linz... FINALLY!
Her toss was all over the place today, but her overall game was quite good, and she will win this tournament if she continues to play like that, and crush Vera just like she did in Linz!
Pavliuchenkova is a great player, Ana was just too good for her!

No opposition for Ana in this tournament.

Now take the title.

Well done, Ana! :D Never in doubt. FH is back. :hearts:
Congrats to Nastya on a great tournament, but there's a lot of work that needs to be done before she's a complete player. She's absolutely clueless about how to return (Ana was never broken, something that hasn't happened since I can't remember when, and it's not as though she was serving that well). Her game alone is too weak to challenge top players (Jelena and Aga aren't playing like ones lately). Look what Venus did to her in Dubai and Ana here without even playing well. Her BH is a beauty, but her FH side stinks... And last and the least... pink & yellow fingernails... Nastya, say it ain't so.
That all being said she's set to reach top20 at least this year with the current state of WTA where 80% of players are slumping.http://i42.tinypic.com/20szv52.gifAll I want is :armed: :armed: :armed: and take your $$$! :bounce:

A very positive match for Ana. She didn't have her serve broken despite the wayward ball toss, and was able to come up with the winners when needed.

Good luck against Vera. Defend that title!

Good win for Ana. :clap2: I`m very encouraged with the improved serving from her. Plus i loved the nice returns. Tonight`s match was Ana`s best performance in a while. Hopefully she repeat it in the final on Sunday.

That was really one-sided--Ivanovic playing better than I've seen her play in a while, and Pavlyuchenkova looking kind of clueless. She should have done more with Ivanovic's serve. Ana looks pretty good, all of a sudden. That should shakes things up in future tournaments.

That all being said she's set to reach top20 at least this year with the current state of WTA where 80% of players are slumping.

Excellent analysis. I wish I liked Ana's tennis more, but she was clearly a cut above tonight, and seems to be regaining form. She's going to be entering the run up to the French with a lot less tension than we might have expected. Suddenly she seems like a/the top contender there.

Nastya...this is my first time really seeing her, and she was overmatched, so it's hard to say, but:

Pros: smoothness and natural motion of backhand, great angling, a willingness to close out points at net, sometimes in unorthodox (not always cookie cutter swinging volley) fashion.

Cons: terrible returns against Ana's big serve. How many times do you have to clock the ball way long before realizing not to take such a big cut at it? Likewise, her second serve was a gift to Ana all night long. You can't get overcome bad returning and weak second serving against a player like Ivanovic. Especially when your focus comes and goes.

So, Pavlyuchenkova has potential. Potential to be top 10 in two years, or potential to join the neverending array of WTA underachievers. I'm more inclined to favor the former, because she was so solid and longterm as a #1 junior, and because she's Russian. For some reason even the Russian notorious headcases find a way to eventually excel, while the Czechs keep bouncing, and young players from other countries hover, dawdle, or fall.

I thought Ana was having a ball in this match. I saw her smiling after some points. One thing i don't understand is her ball toss. Did she just forget how to do it?. Every other aspect of her game was solid, especially those killer returns of serve.

No shame Nastya
She wasn't playing really good. And this SF in a big tier I is a really good achievement.
She is (only) 17. She has improved a LOT in one year and I'm sure she will be improving in the future. She doesn't seem to be a headcase (she won agaisnt JJ and Aga in 2 sets, she never choked). She has a bright future, a beautiful BH and I'm sure her FH will become a great weapon (I saw it in some points).

Some of you are talking like she is the "finished product" but she will improve. where were Ana and JJ at 17? She will go far.

That was the best I have seen Ana play in months as she punished Nastya serves constantly and exploited Nastya being nervous well. When Nastya started to play well, it was too late. Nastya gave her a bunch of free points on Ana serve therefore, Ana only faced one break point all night. Vera will have more chances in the finals.

Nastya was awful with UE's early in points that made it easy fior Ana

It looked like how Bartoli plays against Vera.

She couldn't handle the moment at 17. But her 2nd serve looks to need big improvement.
The bottom half, with Elena and Jelena out, looked like a Tier III
