I don't think its that bad  Can't ask for anything better when you're ranked 39 in the world, could have been A LOT worse.

Maria playing well can beat Both Bondarenko and Pennetta, according to her she feels like shes on the right way so its only a matter of time before she gets the results. It's a good draw just gotta win her first round match. She leads Pennetta 2-0 in the H2H both times beat her with ease and Flavia isn't having the best year so far.

Mar 23rd, 2009, 11:16 PM
Flavia needed multiple chokes from Ana to make it a competitive match, which, granted, Maria is hardly a rock mentally, but Flavia is one of the better seeds Maria could have drawn all things considering. Good luck, Maria.

Mar 23rd, 2009, 11:51 PM
1st she needs to beat Bondarenko and then we will see...That's not a bad draw,it could have been worse. Kata uses to make a lot of mistakes,so it will help Maria more than playing a defensive player who only knows moonballs.

SOA_MC

Sorry but potentially in the first 4 rounds Maria could face K. Bonderenko, Pennetta, Mauresmo, Safina

Find another player with a tougher first 4 rounds in the draw :help:

Nikkiri
Mar 24th, 2009, 06:40 AM
First two matches are not that bad. We shouldn't be looking further than that at this point anyways, Maria hasn't even won multiple matches this year. Ranked 39 in the world you don't get many options at great draws. She could have ended up with a much higher seed in the 2nd round like Cirstea drawing Ivanovic.

DAVAJ MKirilenko
Mar 24th, 2009, 01:00 PM
Maria once beat Ana and later that day they played doubles.
Hopefully she can do the same with Flavia here.

But of course first Bondarenko cause that's already tough enough.

Good win for Makiri. :clap2: Obviously this match was far from her best, but she rebounded nicely after the second set to get the win. This is a good start for her. Next up in the second round is partner is crime Flavia. Man this is so tough seeing the MM loving duo playing each other. Hopefully Makiri will give it a good effort in the match.

This win has hopefully given her some kind of confidence boost and going into the match against Flavia with a 2-0 h2h wont hurt either. Hopefully she can make it 3-0. She has a good chance, I just hope she gives it her all. Flavia is a very good player she had a tough match with Ana last week.. but she is still all over the place this year, so who knows.

I was at the match today. Kirilenko finished the 1st set very strong and I thought she was going to continue her strong play in the 2nd. However, she lost serve early in the 2nd and then started to collapse with tons of unforced errors and tentative play while K Bondarenko was really steady. AFter losing the 2nd, Maaria took a bathroom break for maybe 10-15 minutes while Katerina was paid a visit by her "coach" and sister Alona. Not sure what they talked about, but it looked like they were joking and having a good time.

After coming back, Maria played a lot more consistently and aggressively and never really collapsed even after losing serve a couple of times with bad errors. I was impressed by her fight in the 3rd to break in the last game (admittedly, with some help from Katerina who is definitely a choker). After winning match point, she screamed "Yes!" and raised her arms triumphantly. It was awesome.

I watched the first set. It was obviously really competitive. Funny thing on the last point of the first set. The ball floated up while Maria was near the net and she hit a 2 handed backhand smash and her ball was about to go out but hit Svazay's racket instead so the point and the set went to Maria and Flavia. Both Maria and Flavia were laughing about it afterwards. Radwanska and Agnes were not happy.

Yeah, Maria played much better against Flavia - much better than her quality of play vs. Bondarenko. Maria was really aggressive on her shots and going for a lot of winners (mostly backhands including a few service return winners), and there was much less "pushing" by her. She also hit a few great drop shots that actually won her the points on several occasions. In general, she played really well, but lost a few critical points. Flavia was also playing very well - you can tell that this is the best tennis she's been playing in awhile. I left the match disappointed at the loss but encouraged at her level of play.

Maria has had a disastrous first 3 months of 2009. :( She showed some flashes of fine tennis the past few years but we aren't getting that from her thus far in 2009. It looks liike Masha in on her way to mediocrity in what should be the prime of her tennis career and that is a shame because her talent is much better than that. But Maria never really improved in her tennis mind and that has cost her so many matches she should have won in the past few years.

Maria's poor results in 2009 aren't due to not trying. I think we've all come to terms with Maria's lack of mental toughness, Maria will always have tough moments thats just something we should get used to because if she were going to seek help for it she would have by now and theres no guarantees that it would even change anything. She has a lot of good results left in her but 2009 has started poorly for a number of reasons a terrible offseason, spliting with her coach throw in a nagging knee injury and illness..its been a bumpy ride. So lets cut her some slack.

Oh no, a MP :bigcry:

So disappointing
