She's attractive enough.

"Saving the game." talk is a little crazy.

But if she's good enough to beat everyone not named Williams, more power too her. :smoke:

I don't

I don't think she's a Sharapova knock off as I think she could be potentially bigger than Sharapova, provided she goes on uninjured.
I personally think she's great. I saw her in Stuttgart and have liked her since.

But I like her more because she saved the WTA for the next two weeks at least!

I'm not terribly fond of her, no. But somehow I don't think Nastya is going to lose a lot of sleep over this. She is doing just fine without my support.

Seriously, the girl has a very good future ahead of her.

Why compare with Pova? They have nothing in common. I don't get it.

Anyway, see my sig, I love her :hearts: I fell in love when I saw her live at Wimbledon last year. The way she maintained her focus despite constant injury breaks from her opponent. Her groundstrokes are beautifully produced too as is her serve. And I love a player who gives it their all whether it be singles, doubles or mixed.

Mar 19th, 2009, 11:11 PM
I liked her since I saw her playing in juniors but I like her even more now :yeah: Saying she is the saviour of the WTA is very exaggerated tho. IMO Ivanovic has more potential than her.

They don't have NOTHING in common. I mean, I don't necessarily agree with the comparison, but I can understand where it comes from.

They both hit hard off both sides, mainly use power and precision from the back court to win their points. They both shreak pretty damn loud, stay focused no matter what and are tremendous fighters (Vika is really developing that champion mentality). Personality-wise, Maria's more of a bitch/diva, but game-wise they are somewhat alike.

Must be why I like Vika so much, since she resembles my top fave quite a bit.

I can't agree completly with any answer the way OP stated it, but why would I dislike her? I am not fan of her, but she is nice enough girl. She seems to work hard as well, so I respect it. I don't entirely enjoy the type of tennis she plays, but this is a matter of personal preference and the style seems to be working for her just fine.

I've tried to like her because I know some of my faves will be retiring in a few yrs-I liked her 2 yrs ago from the little I knew about her and had seen of her...but as time went on, the more I saw of her--the more I disliked her. She seems like a really sweet girl, but she just bugs me-especially her grunt/scream. That said, I think she is a future #1. And I wouldn't say I actually dislike her--just not a fave of mine. She's pretty emotional, I've noticed.

I know she's intense on court but off-court isn't.

Mar 20th, 2009, 04:53 AM
I don't get her being bitchy. Imho that's more Sharapova's style.

I like her style and her fiesty attitude on the court. She's finding a way to win matches and she's doing great with hanging in there and working through a tough patch.
I also think she has nice athletic legs. She's not super tall but she's not short either. She is still working on her game, but if she stays injury prone she'll be a slam champion and a future contender for years to come.

Yeah, I'm starting to like her, I dunno why. Maybe because she's feisty, haha.

Mar 20th, 2009, 06:21 AM
She's great. Very pleasant girl through her interviews, blogs, and on court behavior.. She has a big developing game and is one of the most focused of the young girls with making progress (such as her doubles experience to increase her net play). Whether people want to admit it or not, she will be good for the game.

They have no more in common than any other two hard hitting baseliners. Pova and Vika are hardly the only players to do all that you said.

After seeing her attitude and behavior agaisnt Gadjasova in Brisbane, that was enough to turn me off her for her entire career.

But I guess, like this week, when someone like Safina is going to number 1...I can trust her to cause the upset. I could get used to her doing that and I did feel sorry for her during her match agaisnt Serena at the Aussie Open.

i don't like her, because she doesn't looks nice. i think she's sharapova 2.0. same intensity, same game, but her technique is way better than sharapova's. i can't stand watching sharapova because of her ugly grunts and shots, but for vika, i think her tennis is great and this makes up for her horrible grunts.

Mar 20th, 2009, 11:22 PM
I like her a lot. She talented and determined, and as a bonus pretty good looking too. :)
What I don't like are the poll questions. I hate it when people only see things as black and white. There are a lot of greys in between, you know.
She is nobody's saviour. The world wouldn't have to an end if Safina was to become no.1, even if she is perhaps the worst player to achieve it.
She sure is no Sharapova. I admit it, I think Maria is a great player, but can't stand her as a person. She's phony. Vika isn't. Of course the main reason for the comparison are the grunts. While I'd be happy if Vika would tone down a little, her high pitch shriek isn't nearly as annoying or loud as Sharapova's grunts, which I see as unsportsmanlike, period.

BTW, I wrote this more than a year ago, after AO doubles final 2008:
http://www.tennisforum.com/showpost.php?p=12393214&postcount=94
I only saw her play a couple of times before that. That was enough to tell.
