Vaidisova's life is tennis. She's been through a really rough patch, but it looks like she's finally coming around, and she has a lot of time to redeem herself.

I honestly felt at one time that Tati could be a solid top five player and slam contender in the next few years. Her game was stunning. I'd be surprised to ever see her playing again, so I consider her a big waste of talent, and thus the biggest disappointment.

Ya those are my thoughts about Tati too. I enjoyed watching her and saw her as a big waste of potential and because I also liked her so much I also considered her the biggest disappointment.

Vaidisova is a bigger dissapointment. Her results dont do justice to her talent.

Golovin has talent, not as much as Vaidisova though.Now-a-days she is just a cumrag for the the tennis fans.

Bad attitude .vs. injuries in other words. I go for Nicole simply because it was in her hands, whereas the same cannot be said for the career of Tatiana

Golovin's injuries are disappointing. I don't see how that makes her a disappointment.

Vaidisova's attitude is disappointing. I can see how that makes her a disappointment.

Vaidisova's style of play is going to get good results quickly on the WTA. That's why Nicole could do so much at such a young age. Her serve used to be fantastic, but her groundies have always been technically pretty flawed. Her backswing is just... intense. It's shocking she's been able to have such good results on grass with that. And even when she was playing well, her return of serve was always pretty bad. Again, see the backswing.

Tati's game took longer to develop and achieve great results. The potential was there though... you could see it. Some of her matches on green clay were absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, her body was never up to the challenge.

If Tati is not coming back that's gonna be a disappointment.

At least we can still see Nicole playing.

It's hardly fair to blame Tati. She has an illness. Nicole just got caught up chasing the wrong kind of balls. No excuse for her.

Tatiana is TOP 5 for sure but she's injured too much and I can't see her coming back :sobbing: so that's bigger disappointment then Nicole who is slightly coming back and I believe she will come back totally soon if not then as I'm the biggest fan she would be the biggest disappointment for me..

Im not sure if either of these two will ever become elite players. I thought they were locks at one point. They were making waves about four years ago. Now they are in their physical tennis-primes and their careers have stalled.

They both need to start again, apparently Nicole currently is.

Vaidisova, because she never won a tournament higher than a tier 3 after appearing promising at the start of 2007.

I never saw Tati as a future slam winner or world #1  but I thought Nicole would be winning slams and be in contention to become #1 in the world. Therefore I would say Nicole at the moment, but she still has time to turn it around.

I'm actually glad you pointed that out to me! Part of why I've always been bear-ish about Vaidisova as a talent is that she doesn't seem to make sense as a player. With her serve and power, you'd anticipate her to be a quality grass player. But she doesn't have much in the way of top grass results. Her results on clay, however, are quite good, in spite of the fact that it hinders her best weapon (serve) and augments her biggest liability (return of serve). I'd been chalking it up to her movement being so mediocre, but it definitely is the backswing. I think it impairs her shot selection, too. She played enough doubles back when she emerged that you'd think she'd have a better head for strategy out there, but I think the combination of movement and backswing really has hindered her development to an elite player rather than simply a dangerous player. Add in her attitude, and bam. You get the past 12 months.

Making a digest of stuff I've posting in here for ages, and which I deeply resent you (apparently) never having noticed - all the more so as many other people have been saying the same (Andrew, Pavlova's blog). I know that celebrating the end of Sharapova's career must take so much of your free time now, but as I said, my brittle self-esteem will never recover from this ignoble blow.

Clay actually helps aggressive returners. The ball sits up a bit more and gives them time to set up their shots. For the divine Ivanovic, it's heaven - she can whack FHs out of balls bouncing at waist level all day long, no bending of knees required. Opponent shifts the ball into the divine Ivanovic's BH side - no problem, she just moonballs until she has the time to run around her BH again.

Nicole's suckitude on grass is due to both her very early takeback and her dismal footwork. Her movement is uncoordinated, she stomps around the court flat footed, legs flailing around as if she's about to trip over herself, and her forward movement is simply comical.

This is also why her midcourt game (other than terrifyingly high risk FH swinging volleys) is nonexistent. She needs a lot of time to set up her shots - I don't think I've ever seen a Florida basher take the ball so late, and play from so far behind the baseline even when she has weak shots to pounce on.

With such wide, ornate swings, Nicole's footwork would have to be near flawless - yet it's barely pro level. You'd have to look at "Misa" or Akgul to find a once top 100 player with an aspect of her game as rudimentary as Nicole's footwork ("Misa" - reflexes/anticipation; Akgul - BH, and just about everything but her serve come to think of it).

Where's the "never had high expectations of either player" option?

If Tati weren't injured all the time, she'd have been in top 10 for sure.

Nikki disappointed me a LOT.

Nicole Vaidisova is playing... and she's always losing !
There, you can tell it's a disappointment ! :tape:

i dont' see Tati as an disappointment at all, her problem isn't a slump or lack of motivation , her prob is not being able to play

Nicole ... it is considering that she could have a better career by now :o

As people have said, Tati's game is top 5 without the countless injuries and she proved that the precious few times, literally, that she played healthy or not in the stages of a comeback. She physically can't play, bit it's still dissapointing that her career basically ended at 19.

Nicole is dissapointing for a totally different reason: she's been wasting extreme talent for well over a year.
