View Full Version : Not Dani, Not Radwanska, Not Safina. It Is ANA'S Tournament

tennisbum79
Mar 18th, 2009, 12:08 AM
Ana's is due to win a tournament, and this is her chance to do it.

I was really impressed the way she played against Serena, and she seems to be building on that.

Yes, Dani, having won here before could be trouble for her, but I think she'll come through.

As for Dinara, yes she ranked higher than Ana, but with Ana's new confidence and the slew of upset, Ana should overcome her.

Match by match.. Ana still has to beat Pennetta tonight.. it might be a very tough match.

Due? She won an event at Linz last year, technically if we use the word "due" it's Safina's event since she hasn't won since Tokyo.

I'd be happy with either Vika or Safina winning personally.

It's not as though I said I hate her; that would be ridiculous. But I find her mannerisms extremely annoying, and I think annoyance is a legitimate feeling toward someone you see on TV. I also find her homophobia contemptible, and I don't have to defend that.

Ignorance implies lack of knowledge. Finding someone's mannerisms annoying is subjective, but cannot be helped. Her homophobia is a fact. Ignorance, therefore, is not a factor, except among those who are not aware of it or those who support it.

No, it is not. You're claiming she's homophobic based on one comment she made which was printed by someone else (a journalist) and said in her second language, the comment itself was vague anyway, so you don't know how it was meant, she could have been referring to close physical contact, so please don't be so quick to jump to assumptions.

Sad really. There is no proof that she is actually homophobic. Last I heard her & amelie get along fine.

What new confidence? Did you see her play Dulko yesterday. :tape: The way she played yesterday will not be good enough to beat Pennetta tonight. So even with the draw wide open, it's one step at a time for Ivanovic... same goes for Safina and Hantuchova and the rest of the draw. No one is playing well enough right now to be considered the hot favorite.

First, and I repeat, there is no "hate." Second, have you considered the possibility that you did not hear the entire interview, or that she did more than one interview? Because she was not asked whether she was a lesbian--she was asked what she thought about her lesbian fanbase. What she said is that she is repulsed by the thought of any type of homosexual contact. I call that homophobia, as do many others.

gsviitabr, she said more than that--she talked about being repelled. But, for the sake of argument, let's say it was a terrible translation and the translator took something that meant "confused" and called it something that meant "repelled." Take it off the table altogether. It doesn't change the reaction many of us have to her mannerisms, which we find overdone and phony. Granted, that is a subjective thing. But I have another problem with her that I haven't even talked about--her non-stop sexual poses, regardless of the context. A lot of people probably like that; I don't.

Well, to clarify (yet again) my point of view: If the translation of what Ivanovic said was incorrect and she doesn't have a homophobic bone in her body, that is good, but my major problems with her do not involve a one-time comment, true or not, and they never did. They involve her mannerisms and her need to over-sexualize her image. Nor am I alone in finding Ivanovic annoying and sometimes inappropriate. But "hating" Ivanovic is something others have projected onto me. As people should already know, I enjoy her tennis and think she is very talented. I just have trouble with her persona.

Love sweet Ana:angel: don't hate anybody and homosexuals is not exceptions.

Once time when she is 18 yo girl during one interview about her tennis career she is so shocked with unexpected stupid question about her eventual "feelings" to other girls that her "no way" answer maybe seems too offensive. Ana is girl with 100 haters here and 000 reasons to be hated, so her "homophobia" and "sqeaky shoes" is Ana's favorite fake afairs here.

Talking about Ivanovic "homophobia" I want to give just example of her careers most important day when she finally reach careers first GS title - only tennis related special guest in her box was declared lesbian Amelie Mauresmo. And look how Ana celebrate that night her victory:
http://images.onesite.com/blogs.telegraph.co.uk/user/rod_gilmour/party_022.jpg

BTW her last tennis event before IW was BJK Cup in New York where she give several statements in glory of BJK. Did anybody really believe that "homophobic Ana" was not informed that BJK is one of most famous lesbians in history and biggest fighters for lesbian rights and against homophobia!?

How do you know "no one" cares? Since there are numerous people on this board who have expressed some of the same complaints, I would say that a lot of people have an interest. In fact, other people on this board have expressed these complains using a lot stronger language than I did ("annoying" is pretty benign). The fact that you do not understand some people's objections to the sexualization merely means that--that you do not understand it.

Nor was I "spouting off." Someone said a translator could have misinterpreted what she said, which was that she was "so allergic to that" and couldn't even want to be kissed on the cheek by female friends. That is a pretty strong reaction. I said I would allow for the possibility of a poor translation, a facrt you apparently missed.

Accusing me of doing something I didn't do (while ignoring what I did do), calling me "bub" and telling me to shut up is way out of line, and totally unnecessary.

Two in a row for Ana. But bet the new Paribas trophy can't compare to the awesome Pacific Life whale. Waiting to see.

I give Pavlyuchenkova a better shot. I think Ana is the least likely to win.

she probably will, is she playing better than in brisban, oz open or dubai, not really but her path is so open and these courts suit her.

I don't think she'll have a chance vs. Azarenka.

I think the final will be Zvonareva vs Ivanovic and we all know how great Vera is in big finals :tape:

We do?

I don´t consider anything but the Grand Slams, YEC or Olympics to be a big final. Besides she is 8-11 in finals, which is not bad for a player, that never even finished the year in the top ten until last year, when she reached her first major final at the YEC. Now you can argue that her Grand Slam results are pathetic and that she should/could have beaten Dinara Safina at the AO this year, but to say she is a provcen choker at the biggest stages is hardly true, since she is never been there. :p

Well, I heard worse when I created this thread: she wouldn't make the final.

For some, thhe day I created this thread was the day she was going to lose.
Supertitious crap about jinxing someone by stating you expect her to win.

She may not have played brilliantly in ealrier rounds, but that is what champions do.
Win, even if not tat heir best.
And elite players win matches you expect them to win

Delete this thread!!
The thread is still going, so is Ana.

Get rid off that jinxing superstition crap

It looks she will do it.

Despite the conditions, she is playing like a champion, which is what I thought she has potential for.
