View Full Version : How can somebody as talented as Kleybanova lose to Llagostera Vives

I donīt get. Llaagowhatever Shites commits seven double faults, has a 1st serve percentage of 48% and you still lose. I donīt get it. Itīs like Brazil playing Indonesia in football, Indonesia plays like crap and Brazil still lose. I donīt get it. Explain it without using the words "Shites has some ability and can actually play", cause she canīt. :o:o

Nuria is a great player. If if wasn't for some bad injuries, she would be a solid Top 50 player.

Also Nuria is one of the smartest players in the circuit. She toys with the young players quite easily.

Kleybanova powerful strokes must have been off today, because the other player just retrieves everything!

Seeing both of these players separately, it IS hard to imagine Alisa losing.

I've seen Alisa play so sloppy she can lose to anyone.
A non power player who can run down balls is a big threat to Alisa if she's off her game

Have you actually seen Nuria play???? She hits so clean, I remember this year against erakovic, hitting winners from every corner, and she can also use her speed to get every ball back. In fact, when she lose is because her UE count, not because of any passivity... I hate when people talk nonsense...:o

Any top player, however talented, can have an off day once in a while and lose to a lesser talented player.

Even the Roland Garros Champion Ivanovic lost to a much less talented player and a pusher like Jankovic last year in Doha.

Kleybanova is not the 'Brazil' of tennis. I don't know either of these players particularly well, to be fair but I'll take a wild guess and assume that Llagostera probably moves far better than Kleybanova for one thing. (To me, Kleybanova often looks stretched on very ordinary shots/returns.)

Well, Alisa is clearly a much better player the vast majority of the time, has better results, and has bigger weapons.

That said, I always think it's interesting when a weaker player gets a scalp on a better player without them necessarily having a bad day. I wish I had been able to see what Nuria did differently here in order to win.

PS. Your avatar-- aren't you a Lindsay FAN?

Really? How many tournaments has she won? Nuria has won two titles and been to 6 semifinals. Alisa has never been to a semifinal. Alisa might have pulled off some more impressive wins, but I wouldn't go as far to say she is much better than Nuria. Not to mention Nuria has enjoyed amazing success in doubles, especially this year. I'd say she's the more talented player; and there's no doubt she has achieved more.

and yeah she's my fave but I like the picture

There's almost 100 ranking places between them and 9 inches of height.
Alisa is 8-5 on the year, Nuria 2-5.
Nuria had also only beaten 3 top 40 players in the last year and a half, one by retirement. Alisa has beaten 3 top 40 players through 5 events in 2009 alone, while losing only to top 10 players, Dokic, and Cornet.

I think there's a pretty big difference between their potentials in singles.

:haha: You're just over asking these types of questions after following our Agnes lately. :tape:

2/3 of her losses are a complete mindfuck.

How she can lose to players over whom she has athleticism, speed, serve, backhand is really beyond compare.

Svetlana.
Mar 17th, 2009, 01:46 AM
How can you compare and dismiss Alisa'a talent? She's only 19 and Nuria is already 28. Last two years have been very tough for Alisa and she's slowly getting back to where she’s descent to be.

What was the last big win for Nuria? Has she ever won a match against a former #1 player?

When Szavay loses I don't start threads bitching about how her opponent sucks and it's not fair. I accept that one of the three things I said must be true and she lost and I move on.

I think you misunderstood the intent of my post, but what you say is true.

I don't even know if the person who started this thread is an Alisa fan. Maybe they're someone who's having a tough time seeing how Nuria would beat Alisa without just saying Alisa sucked.

First note: did the jackass tree shake a whole bunch this past week? It seems every time I come on here a new one has opened a bull-"shite" post that ALMOST has merit but devolves into jackass-dom in the very first post.

Second note: Kleybanova is talented but has a very, very high risk game. Llagostera-Vives is exactly the kind of player that a raw, high risk player can implode against. She hits safe shots, runs most things down, and doesn't make a ton of mistakes after the serve. My bet is that one of Kleybanova's screwy strokes (watch the motion and you'll see what I mean) collapsed in a big way today AND her serve was a little off. From the few matches I've seen of Kleybanova, she can go away in a major way.

Answer: mindless ball-bashing.

Alisa is talented. But until she mixes it up or learns to steady her big hitting -- something very few big babes not named Williams have managed of late -- she'll run into trouble against crafty players. Witness how Aga Radwanska always seems to take part Alisa.

I hope Alisa improves. The WTA has more than enough underachievers. (Understatement of the year.)

Alisa is a mindless bashballer and she can't deal with playing against someone who's not similar game to hers.

Therefore, I can't stand watch mindless bashballers. They're horrible.

More important question...

How could someone as big as Kleybanova be ranked #26 in the world. Kind of embarrassing for the WTA considering you don't have to be fit or athletic to be one of the best players on the tour.

Alisa has had great success on the challenger and don't forget she is just getting started on the WTA tour. But that being said, she has a lot to learn and still needs to get in better shape.

Not a surprise at all really that she lost.

Nuria is a top player, so fuck off. She woulda made Kleybenova run around, which she is extremly overweight. Which she is somehow top 30 in the world with that stature.

I can see That nuria would of worked Alisa out from side to side with her fluent groundstrokes, so im not suprised at all. And im extrmely happy that she won it :)

you're talking about a match you didn't watch...does it make any sense?

I wonder what happened at 5-6 in the 1st set (maybe an injury time-out but I dunno coz the match wasn't televised), but from there on the match turned around.

Sometimes tennis results are bizarre, and match-ups aren't always the greatest indicator to who should win. Well the word 'should' is a void word when it comes to tennis, because noone should win anything. You have to work for it.

Nuria just played better than Alisa. It happens.

I dont see her a particular talented player. She's just another baseline player we see the tour full of.
She has extra pounds too and its not because she beat a poor ivanovic this year proves that she' s special.
Make her run and move from side to side and she'll appear like she is actually, a good top30 player.
She's human.Loss happen.:p
