I based this on what I've seen as the best strikers of the ball when they're playing their best tennis. Obviously, on the younger players, we haven't seen their best, so I put them where I thought they'd be...

I didn't look at the posts above mine so I'm sure I'll be very surprised by the results. I tried to be as objective as I can.
Remember, the question isn't who has the best chance to upset a top player on a hot day, but who has the best chance to win Seven Big Matches in a Row....

I'm pretty sure that Justine will win Wimbledon next year. She has come so close twice (a final and a semi). Next year it has to be her turn...Kim is also capable of winning a slam now that she's over her injury...she just needs to stay consistant.

-Martina Hingis
-nobody else cos if they manage to beat Hingis, capriati, lindsay and one of the williams in a GS they deserve to win all the GS's in 2003. (all but one of the other have never won a slam, and Monica IMO is never goona win another, there r too many good players to beat not just steffi graf)

monica (if she was in the form as when she played Venus in AO)
mauresmo (all the tools are there, and mentally she's getting better)
chanda (chanda and daniela would be a tie for me. dani has the big serve, but Chanda has the experience)
daniela
justine (if it was clay, she would be higher)
kim
hingis (nothing spectacular in the last 12 months)

1. Justine Henin - has the game
2. Martina Hingis - has the experience
3. Kim Clijsters - has the game
4. Amelie Mauresmo - has the game
5. Monica Seles - age is not on her side
6. Daniela Hantuchova - inexperience
7. Chanda Rubin - age is not on her side
I think nerves are a very important component in winning a slam and right now I think Justine and Amelie are prone to getting nervous in big matches at slams. Martina has also fallen to nerves a lot in the past year, but there's something about being in plenty of finals that makes it a lot easier to win a slam, in my opinion.
Hmmm starting to understand why so many posters say they love Chanda. :o

i gotta put hingis over seles cause i felt that if monica played amazing to beat venus in australia, and then martina played amazingly in the next match and beats seles and really played wonderfully up till she choked against capriati, she can win another one, the only problem is, will she be too afraid next time or will she learn from her lessons? oh and omg, i just saw the stats for that match for the first time, did anyone notice that martina was like 24 of 29 when up at net in her match against capriati????? Why doesn't she come up more dammit!

1. None of them are likely to win a grand slam at all in 2003 or in the forseeable future with the Williams sister act around.

Explanations make this thread a lot more interesting!
1. Martina Hingis: She came SOO close in Australia, and if she can improve her serve even to where it has been before, she can likely take the Aussie or the French.
2. Amelie Mauresmo: She's a huge threat at every slam, she is not troubled by anyone other than the Williamses, and even against them she has had some very close matches.
3. Daniela Hantuchova: Has great game, and is only getting better.
4. Justine Henin: A legitimate contender at the Aussie and the French, but not anywhere else, as she can be overpowered.
5. Monica Seles: Ditto. Getting older, and she is injury-prone and out of shape. As much as I would love to see it, it doesn't seem likely at this point. Her win over Venus in Australia is encouraging, and if she can somehow manage an easy draw, then MAYBE.
6. Kim Clijsters: Even when she is at her best, she is beatable. Period.
7. Chanda Rubin: She's too nice, and too beatable even when she is at her best, although I can see her making a GS run and reaching the top ten. She's also getting older, and her body has not been kind to her in the past.
