Interesting.

First seed on Agnieszka's path is Aleksandra Wozniak. But in the second round (first is BYE) she faces either Stosur or Schiavone ;)

Ula in the first round has a match against a qualifier. Then Kuznetsova.

Good luck girls!

Schiavone, oh no :sobbing:

Mar 9th, 2009, 10:50 PM
Don't lose heart. Agnieszka needs to get her confidence back - what better way than by beating Fran (at last, dare I say!) - assuming Shiavone beats Sam of course.

Mar 10th, 2009, 06:00 AM
I guess Schiavone is not at best form, she lost to Urszula in qualies... maybe Stosur would beat her!

And Ula has a great chance to beat Kuznestova IMO.

Mar 10th, 2009, 09:03 AM
Go Aga! Hopefully she is now healthy and coming back to top form. :)
Don't be afraid of Schiavone, Aga will beat her one day. Why not this time? ;)

Good draw for Ula too. I mean qualifier gives hope for some easy points.

High time to show some quality in 2009. Why not in Indian Wells. The draw is good but considering Aga's recent "form" no draw is good enough... Anyway, fingers crossed.

Agata.
Mar 10th, 2009, 04:35 PM
This draw seems not to be bad for Aga, a bit worse for Ula, as I would like to see her playing against a 24-32 seed in the 2nd round rather than Sveta. Still, firstly she needs to win against a qualifier and it propably won't be so easy seeing most of the players in the final round of qualifing. As for Aga- either Schiavone or Stosur, not the easiest opponents, but still Aga is capable of beating the winner of this match.

Which half starts as the first one? Anybody knows? :)

so both sis are playing today and probably at the same time...

STADIUM 3 start 11:00 am
E Makarova (RUS) vs N Dechy (FRA) - WTA
S Hsieh (TPE) / S Peng (CHN) vs [3] K Peschke (CZE) / L Raymond (USA) - WTA
[Q] M Larcherde Brito (POR) vs [WC] U Radwanska (POL) - WTA

COURT 6 start 11:00 am
Qualifying - [WC] T Clemens (GER) vs B Evans (USA) - ATP
S Lisicki (GER) vs E Vesnina (RUS) - WTA
[6] N Llagostera Vives (ESP) / M Martinez Sanchez (ESP) vs A Radwanska (POL) / A Szavay (HUN) - WTA

I really hope Ula will win and Aga has a nice warm up before playing her R2 in singles...

Why there was so many doubts before match against lower ranked player who had to play 2 3-setters in qualies? Oh, that's Ula, understand now. Seriously, she must win such matches, if she couldn't then who would be beatable for her in MD? ;)

Wasn't her opponent the young one who beat Aga and Marta in the past? Deserved loss then

Wow the match has only ended one hour ago! I would have never thought I could have followed it. Anyway big well done to Ula :D There is clearly sth about Radwanska sisters that Sveta can't handle ; she is bound to lose against them ^^
It's a BIG result! Now the best thing is this story is that she faces Alexa Glatch who is anything but a prospect. So Ula is in the same situation as in Dubai, let's hope that this time she will turn it in her favour.

Bravo :yeah:.

Iceland
Mar 14th, 2009, 09:02 AM
Somebody posted that on GM:
From Yahoo: In a late match, Urszula Radwanska of Poland upset No. 6 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Radwanska, ranked No. 107, twisted her right ankle and fell trying to return a Kuznetsova forehand on the second match point and required medical attention. The 18-year-old was limping noticeably when she returned to the court but won the final two points when Kuznetsova hit a forehand volley into the net and another forehand long.

Doesn't look good! Why does she have to feel unwell each time she scores the biggest win of her career?
Still  at Sveta who made 2 UEs to lose the match.

Safarova or Wozniak

and a report from Ula's match from papa Radwański:
"Ula played a very good match. In the 1st set Kuznetsova played really bad, then she got it together. But Ula managed to win. In the last set she played great, she served really well, managed to stay in the longer rallies. And what's important she coped with it mentally."
Then he says they're not sure is her injury really bad. The match finished around 11.30 pm. They will visit a doctor on Sunday. But they are hoping everything will be fine. He also says that Ula played Alexa in juniors and she's very dangerous - tall, great serve and forehand.

Bravo Aga :yeah:. Quite a relief that she managed to prevail against the absolute choker. Im quite happy about her stats on serve which start to look pretty decent, although we have to put it on balance with the fact that Sam is a pretty poor retriever. Still, this match can only bring positive feelings :).

Aga has shown her true spirit, won a tight match and brought the Radwanskas' score to 3:0. Congrats :D

Ula is playing tomorrow on Court 4, third match. Let's hope she's had enough time to recover from her ankle injury. Best of luck Ula.

oh yeah there are some superb players but all are beatable Wozniak, Szavay, Pavlyuchenkova, Ivanovic.. i don't want to expect too much but this draw is perfect to catch a form and some big points, veeeery big..

If Aga played half-decent tennis I'd pencil here in the SFs already. I don't think there's a threat from Wozniak (even though I'm quite impressed that she's overcome Lucie). The battle of slumpdogs in the 4th round (Aga and Agnes) could be funny.

Indeed. With Jankovic's fall, if Aga can keep it up she will be a favourite of each match until semis.

Good news! (kind of)
"Ula won in dramatic conditions. At MP she sprained her ankle. She was sitting on the court for three minutes, crying until doctors stiffed her ankle with bandage. The last balls were just a miracle, but she won them laming. It looked really bad but ended up well. X-ray didn't show anything serious, the swelling came off the next day. It seems Ula will be able to play, but we will see on Sunday"

That is pretty common with young players, they relax after big win instead of staying focused.

But Ula had at least 1 matchpoint vs Pin and still lost. So she actually had a BIG chance to win and in the WTA Top 100 there are many better players than Pin, so lucky draw also!
We will see how Ula handles the pressure vs Glatch...
(Btw Ula is more experienced than Glatch and has MUCH higher potential than her!)
If you want to be a GREAT player you must use your opportunities and if Ula only wants to be a GOOD player she can stop here.
In her next match Ula can show she learned from Dubai and is mentally strong!

Im even happier at the fact that this injury was not very serious. At worst she can skip Miami to recover but it would be a real shame if she had to give a walkover here. My feelings towards Wozniacki coming closer to top ten are not particularly positive so I will be at 200% behind Ula. ;)

to be honest...Wozniak is playing like CRAP. I don't know why is she among the seeds :weirdo: maybe it's her shoulder, I don't know. She's making so many errors

Agnieszka is totally controling this match, can't see her losing. She's playing enough 'well' to beat Aleks. Although she's not particulary impressive either.

edit: Wozniak stepping up. Some game finally on court

AndreConrad

Aga played on around 70% and still won convinsigly. First set showed she can play quite well, and when she doesn't have to show her best to win, she plays like in second set.
