Did you see the placement in the 4-1 game.

Serena is turning into an artist.

Also has the best return of serve in the game (Maybe tied for best in her family).

not a bad serve from Daja, but AMAZING return by Serena! :D

okay, who pissed off serena? Did someone steal her golden slippers? Kidnap her dogs? someone must have done something to send her into this Terminator mode!

I think Anna better give back that Harry Winston bracelet she swiped from Serena's locker before all hell breaks loose.

She closed so fast! 6-1 6-1

That Wasn't a fourth round match that was a massacre!

Sep 1st, 2002, 11:31 PM
OMG, Serena played unbelievably !

I can't even say that poor Daja did anything wrong, she played quite well if she had the chance to. But Serena hit winners of every position.

Really amazing.

Finally tally 34 winners and 5 errors

I've never ever seen a Serena match like that!

Well done!!!!!!! :D

Sep 1st, 2002, 11:37 PM
She didn't even give her a chance!

Sep 1st, 2002, 11:37 PM
Ditto to all. I'm still in shock. Daja is an excellent player, her serve has gotten much better and she volleyed quite well, but Serena had an answer for everthing.

I can't believe I missed such a good match, I had been waiting to watch the match most of the day, and by the time I realized play had started, the match was over!

Serena must have been in a zone to beat such a good player by that score.

Warning to Venus: The S-train is picking up speed.

I am at work, can someone help me out here? Was this match on CBS? How much of it did they show? because I put my tape in at 3 o'clock and am wondering what all CBS showed since there was a rain delay?

Nooooooo Venus! GET OUT THE WAY!!!!

They showed the first set and I think the first game of the 2nd set, then coverage switched to USA.

That was an assassination. Daja had NO chance in that match. I admire the way she stuck to serve and volley trhough out. Mentally, she's tough enough to stick to a plan, even while being overwhelmed like that.

I still believe that Venus is going to win this tournament. But that scared me. Serena's not really working that hard either. She's using more topspin, accepting longer rallies. But she's just KILLING mistakes. And a 'mistake' is a ball that lands on the service line. Or one that gives her time to apply sidespin. Or you don't quite get back to the middle of the court.

I think she won't be able to run over her quarter-final opponent like that. Before this tournament, I'd have been sure. I'm not sure Dani would have any idea what hit her.

I thought Venus was playing the best, but Mama Smash was making it look way too easy and I thought her opponent was stroking the ball quite well.

The rest of the WTA should just "Moooove, get out the way..."

I am dying to see Venus and Serena do their thing. They are by far the two best tennis players in the world and I feel sorry for anyone who upsets one and then has to face the other.

I got in two sets in the hot Cali sun today, changed my grip (to something retarded) and everything was going in. Won 2 and 3 then got back in time to catch a little bit of Mama Smash (should call her Mama Placement today).

By the way, USA under 19 girls just won a world championship in Soccer.

It was pretty exciting, just thought I'd share.

Serena is on a roll! I can't believe she's the same Serena who lost against Rubin in LA!!!

Nick Bolliteri said it best. Every player needs to shut it down for awhile. Serena had played alot of tennis for her this year. She needed some downtime. Chanda caught her on her first match back and still needed 3 sets to take down Rena. Rena is back and now is on the incline. Can you say steamroller? ;)

Know what I like the best? None of her detractors have popped up in this thread because they were left SPEECHLESS....oh yeah thats definitely a nice feeling to see a hater free thread:kiss:

she was ruthless...

I think she was doing the usta a favor...they asked her to make it quick before the rain returned so they wouldnt have to give refunds. they promised her a necklace to match her bracelet :D

"Doing the USTA a favor"

Very funny.

I demand an investigation!!!

So who plays early tomorrow?

Weren't all the women supposed to play on Monday?

I got my own match at 10 hope 10 -1pm is Williams free TV.

I'm worried for Venus. She hadn't played yesterday as clean a match as Serena played today. Things may change. My real hope for Vee rests in her ability to raise her game. But can she, vis-a-vis a flawless Serena?

we have to remember the last three times they played venus could not get her sever working the way its working now. That will be the big advantage.

STOP PRACTICING WITH RENA, VEE at least at the tournaments!

lol, Serea probably won so quickly to ensure she could have the day off tomorrow... :p

But wow, what an amazing match...

Sep 2nd, 2002, 08:54 AM
Serena is the most impressive so far. Should there be another all-williams affair, Venus would be at Serena's mercy.;)

Sep 2nd, 2002, 09:37 AM
Venus will have to serve very well in the final, and she has been serving the best all year in this tournament. But Serena made a big statement today...

Sep 2nd, 2002, 12:35 PM
With Serena's devastating return of serve, Venus' service game would definetely be under pressure. This is the reason why of the late encounters, she wasn't able to execute good service game against her dear sister.

Sep 2nd, 2002, 01:18 PM
I still think/hope that Venus will win this tournament, but yesterday Serena played one of the greatest matches I've ever seen ANYONE play EVER. She was absolutely amazing! I just sat there with my jaw hanging down at floor level as she simply demolished Bedanova as though she wasn't even there! It was SCARY, LOL. Venus had better be ready to play her very best tennis in the final against her sister or it's lights out for sure.
