Erakovic is no pushover so it's not really a great draw, gonna be tough. Good luck :yeah:

It's not a bad draw for Maria. She has a chance to win 2 matches in singles. :) Erakovic is a player she should beat and she's matched up well against Safarova in the past.

Come on Maria...it's time to win a singles match. :)

Good luck Maria. :)

I think there's finally a win here. But it's about time as well. It's March already and the tournaments won't be easier than this one.

GOOD LUCK! Maria!

Makiri`s singles draw isn`t bad looking. If she can somehow rediscover the good form from last year, i think that she has a chance at a good run. As for doubles, i`m very happy to see her and Flavia back together. :D They have a favorable looking draw. I really hope that Makiri does well in Monterrey this week. It would be nice to see her build some positive momentium with Indian Wells around the corner.

First win of the year!!! Can't just about her play, but straight sets win and got 16 BP's, so I can't be that bad.
Congrats, girl!
Hopefully that will do her some good. Now beat Safarova again!

Good win for Makiri. :clap2: It is so great that she finally got her first win in singles this year, which is much needed. This is a nice start for Makiri in Monterrey.

A combination of factors,perhaps....For one,we FINALLY got an end to this b.s. streak where Makiri either played a hometown star or someone who's been on a roll for her first round match.Maybe the doubles success also helped with her confidence and finding her form.Regardless,I'm proud of her:D that she broke out of her on-court doldrums, and I'm hoping that we'll see a repeat of past experiences when a few victories revitalized her....Not that those hack models can compare with her,but Makiri's poised to become the first Swimsuit Queen to win a tourney in Mexico:)

Unfortunately, it looks like they won't be showing Maria's match (Bet365, which I believe is the source of the Monterrey streams available on Channelsurfing and elsewhere, only mentions Zheng vs. Czink for tomorrow :(). I could be wrong though...

Anyway, well done Masha and good luck against Lucie!

Yeah, the livestreaming sites seem to only want to show the evening sessions and the tournament might have thought that it is good publicity to put both Kirilenko and Pennetta on that spot, but the livestreaming services dont wanna show the doubles -____-'
If there had been a singles match after Jie/Czink it would have been shown :o

Nikkiri
Mar 4th, 2009, 10:41 PM
So unlucky this year illness, injury and terrible draws. I'm glad she retired though she needs to rest that knee so many times its been giving her trouble but she always finishes the match it's not worth it.

kirivanovic
Mar 4th, 2009, 10:47 PM
Let's see if she'll play her doubles' match later in the day then.

I hope it's not too serious.Probably her knee again:mad:

bruce goose
Mar 5th, 2009, 12:08 AM
She showed such promise in her domination of Erakovic on key points...she WOULD'VE won this match were it not for the injury:sad:.Still,it was better for our Makiri:angel: to default rather than risk a more serious injury

Maria's status for Indian Wells?

Season going from bad to worse :o
Maybe this was just one of those precautionary retirements like you see before the slams.

Maria had a 1st round bye last year but lost in the 2nd round to Caro so Indian Wells isn't one of her "best 16" results currently. The 30 points she earned from Monterrey will be her 16th best result in monday's rankings. So if Maria is unable to play Indian Wells, a 0 will replace the 30 points and drop Maria to a ranking of 38 from 37.
