Congrats Venus on winning your first title of the year and first title in Dubai.:bounce:

Razzano tried to comeback near the end of the match but it was too late.

Continue improving your ranking and good luck in Acapulco next week.

Very clean display from her. Made very little errors.

yay you deserved it. Now back in the top 5. Now do well in acapulco, and miami.

Razzano you did well. But you should have stuck to your game and power tennis isn't your game.

Good luck at your next tourney.

Should've been 6-0 but whatever!!! Congrats Venus!!!! Razzano clearly could not keep up her level of play. She tried doing something she normally can't even do, and it cost her big time. Was just a matter of time before she faded out. GO VEE!!! Revenge is sweet!!! DUBAI 09 CHAMP!!!

YES! I really sense Venus is eager to get back to that #1 ranking. I really sense she could go on a ripper this season. Dubai, Miami, Paris, London, NYC, YEC, next year's OZ. Venus domination baby.

Well, one step at a time :)

Good win not great win. Razzano try to hit too hard all the time, that is so ridiculous. How can you overpower that most powerful player on the tour. I wish her well in the future and hopefully she can understand that it takes a lot out of you to hit so hard with all your might. It may work for a few games or a set but not for the entire match.

Great first set but Razzano just fell away in the second; understandably she looked emotionally and physically drained. But my god, Venus did try and help her get back into the match towards the end with some dreadful serving :tape:

This goes to show you what happens when you let the crowd dictate how you play. Vee's toss was off all day. In the first set she caught all her bad tosses, drawing some jeers from the crowd. (I note that Razzano also had some problems with her toss, but wasn't chatised for catching it). After Vee got a big lead in the 2nd set, Venus stopped catching the bad tosses and just swung anyway, resulting in horrible misses. I say: screw the crowd - catch every bad toss, win and cash the winners checks. It ain't a popularity contest.

Nice win for Venus. For one horrible moment there I thought she was going to chuck away a big lead, she served terrible at 5-1..... Having said that she was unlucky on match point against Razzano's serve at 5-0, she hit a ball onto the baseline that was called out when it was good......... she should have challenged that one.

Solid win over an inspired opponent.

The result was inevitable, but I think it was a better match than many expected. Virginie put up a good fight in the first set, stepping up the court and attacking. She has had a long week and ran out of gas in the second, but Venus threw here a lifeline! Not Venus' best performance, but she's won it, and showed her class on court and in the speeches!

Zurich was definitely the turn around. She finally got a big tour title that doesn't start with a W, and she hasn't looked back. The only active woman with 40+ titles. Keep it up!

Can somebody please tell me when they showed the final on livestream? I saw on the Sony site that it was supposed to be Saturday night, but I assumed it was tonight and should have realized it was Dubai time, was that this morming? The times for the matches in Dubai had me all thrown off this week. Is there any video of it that I can download, and can someone direct me on how to download? I always seem to have trouble doing it. Thanks in advance.

As happy as I feel for Virginie Razzano (she's the real winner of
Dubai, isn't she?), the fact that she reached the final of this
tournament (where all the players want to be because of the decadent
amount of money they can earn there), sadly reflects even more
the poor state the WTA is in since 2008.

The only gesture that could've impressed me, would've been a players
boycot against what happened to S. Peer.
Unfortunately, it didn't happen, so I can only conclude this :
First/ WTA has become a clueless mess, totaly lacking of variety,
rivalry and quality. Second/ WTA players' moral standards are non-
-existent, proven by the Peer case. All they care for is the money
they can cash in.

As much as I was struggling with the poor state of women's tennis
since Justine Henin's retirement last year, this Dubai tournament
has now turned me off completely.

That's the craziest shit I've heard all day! You have no idea of what went on behind the scene at Dubai. I guarantee you the whole Peer thing won't happen next year. Venus and Serena will be on the first plane out of Dubai if she is ever denied again.

Of the top 30 competitors, Dubai Women's is only missing the following ranked players: #11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 21, and 24.

Compare that to the men's side, see below. The lowest female in top 15 seeds is ranked 20th by WTA. The lowest male in top 15 seeds is ranked 38th by ATP. The men in Dubai are also missing 7 of the top 10!
