Does anybody know if this field is strong? Anyway, I hope Marion recovers in time to this tournament becuase she is the best fighter in hot outside climate, and would certainly go far.

Best of luck to her!

Welcome to the forum.
No it's not very strong. Radwanska and Pennetta are there, but no one else note-worthy (top 20) to my knowledge.
Marion right now is watching the Williams sisters :hearts:

Ah ok, then I really hope she will win the tournament. A final clash between her and radwanska would be amazing, and pretty probable.

Comments on Marion inside this good tennis site : http://tenfem.streetreporters.net/ following a scale : rising/stable/falling

Stable

Isnt Radwanska the top seed? Marion is seeded 2nd so they cant meet until the final?

So Radwanska could be off form if they do meet....or she could have an early exit :P

I understand you. But speaking personally i'd take a top 10 season finish insteard of one of the smaller titles, which while still great, offer small reward for a lot of effort expended.

Now she'll probably go win it ;)

Is Guy Forget more open-minded than Nicolas Esdudé ? Guy Forget, former french fed cup team captain agrees to work with Jo Tsonga and Gilles Simon's coach for the next Davis cup tie vs Czech republic in Ostrava. Wino and Tulasne won't be in the staff but will be in Ostrava in order to support Forget and Roux in order to give advices.

As Forget has decided to accept player's coachs, it will be difficult for Escudé to refuse this support to Marion.

Everytime i've heard Guy speak, and everything I have read about him and by him, and also from what I remember of his playing days... Guy Forget strikes me as a totally nice guy. Someone tactful, sensitive, and in touch. He's to tennis what Stevie Wonder is to music. Can say no bad about the guy.

Really? how much is a ticket then?According to the website,a single ticket for the UPPER bleachers on the west or east wing is 2,200 pesos.North wing bleachers, which apparently offer a better overhead view, are 3,000...and tickets in the stands closer to the court are 30,000 pesos. This doesn't include the cost of transportation to and from Monterrey...or hotel costs for one night...or a lost day's wages if I left on Friday in time to catch Saturday's final.PLUS there'd be the added aggravation if :hearts:Marion:hearts: didn't make it to Saturday.I'd consider a ticket to a Craybas-Zheng final as lots of money flushed down the toilet:eek:

Yeah, this little tournament doesn't mean much, you're right... but I think that the opponents she is facing are all pretty talented and no deprived of a chance against Marion. I also doubt that Marion has come to Monterrey without any motivation. First she needs a good preparation before the big IW and Miami and then, winning a title would make her mentally stronger in these important stages of a tournament.
And statistically speaking, going far here would result into coming extremely close to breaking top 10 again .

Quite happy with yesterday's win. Quite unhappy to discover this match was shown on a livestream :( Anyway with uni stuff, it wouldn't have been reasonable! I do hope to see a bit of her this week... so please Marion, go as far as possible :p

Oh don't misunderstand me, Monterrey does matter, just not hugely when it comes to attaining top 10, but if she goes all the way which is quite likely, then that will help.

Zheng would be a tough opponent for Marion despite her ridiculous serve. She absorbs extremely well the power, I would totally see her taking advantage of Marion's big flat strokes by hitting the ball early to find her angles. I wouldn't mind either if she is out before semies...

Thanks Lighter, didn't know that! Well in worst cases, she would still have gotten prepared to IW. ;)

Compare Marion's Scoreline vs Czink in Brisbane and Zheng's one in AO : 7-6(0) 5-7 6-3

But lost GDF semi points lighter. These things balance out over a whole season. The aim isn't to scrape the top 10 for a week or two, but to settle and stay there for a while, showing that she is the undisputed French number 1. This is a seasons project.

I agree. And to be honest, that bothers me a bit. The ranking system discourages you from cheering. I mean, I know it certainly is hard to come up with a good ranking system, espcially in tennis, but this one bit totally sucks. I tend to not think of the ranking so much though, as long as the player play great tennis the ranking should come automaticlly.

French staff took a decision, in selecting clay (indoors) for Fed Cup World Group play-off tie in April vs Slovakia.

Weird decision. Alizé is the only one french top player on clay. And she isn't sure to beat Cibulkova. Nobody really knows Cibulkova's potential on clay. Hantuchova had good results on clay in 2007 and Rybarikova entered top 50. The other french top player prefer hard or grass to clay.

Zheng has whined FREQUENTLY over line calls...even when the replay confirmed that they were correct. She's an overrated player who got overhyped for her wins over a badly-slumping Ivanovic last year...and her fluke SF run at Wimbledon. She's a weaker version of Patty Schnyder;when a top player is on her game,Zheng has NO chance....VAMOS,MARION:hearts::hearts:!!

So happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely fantastic level of tennis in the second set, she has never been serving that well.
A match to remember, Marion clearly wanted to celebrate her 300th win!!!!! :yeah:.

:help:Must agree with Iceland;there were a few DFs sprinkled in but it was worth going for it when she was coming up with so many powerful serves.Only 5 aces but LOTS of other weak returns from Zheng when she barely got her racket on the ball...and FEW UEs on groundies in the 2nd set by Marion:hearts::hearts:.

In a way,I'm glad she's not taller,otherwise:inlove::inlove::help:...the crowd was with her ALL the way;Mexicans LOVE Marion(we're not so dumb, huh?;))She played to the crowd, hitting balls into the stands after the match, and looked SOOOOO adorable:hearts:.She outclassed Zheng and is ready to roll into the finals:cool:....VAMOS MARION:inlove:!!

So she will play either Na or Benesova (h2h 0-1 but the match they played was on clay) in the final.
I want her to win this title so much. I don't want her to become Marion Kuznetsova!

Yeah that's true, you just made me notice that Marion is very popular in Mexico. She was warmly supported by the crowd. Overall there was a lovely atmosphere around here :D

I wonder now which opponent would be the toughest for Marion. A red-hot Li is tough to beat but Iveta is a very unpredictable player. She would be the underdog too whereas the chances would be quite equal between Li & Baba.
I desperately want Marion to win this final. Time for a title, she deserves it so much. ALLEZ!

Who's the better final opponent? or is that a silly question LOL 'cuz i want her to play Li Na... i think she'll perform better if she isn't expected so much to win eg. Stanford last year:( either way Marion is a different player this year:) G'luck:D

It's hard for me to maintain perspective here:Was Marion careless in going for too much on her serve with those 1st set DFs,or was she simply confident that she'd find her rhythm eventually(which she SURE did)?On court, she never seemed overly down on herself following mistakes(at least not to ME).Perhaps she said to herself,"I'll get this going;I can take her if I can just play my game." My only concern is her having an opening set like that vs. a stronger opponent.

In the final,I'll say that Na Li is clearly more talented than Zheng, but maybe not as difficult an opponent for Marion.Zheng gets a lot of balls back and hits a lot of low grounders, whereas Marion might hit more balls past Na Li more easily...perhaps even use her pace against her.......I'm ready for the drought to be over, picturing a smiling Marion:hearts::hearts::hearts: in the winner's position:)

Amazing match of Bartoli! i could see her and she was so focus in the match. Im very excited, i wanna Marion win the Monterrey Open but first she have to defeat Na LI, another chinese player, who is very dangerous sometimes. Marion Bartoli lost the previous final this year in Brisbane i hope this time would be different. Great Start for Marion, Final in Brisbane, Quarfinals in the Australian Open and now this final...very good job!

HEAD-TO-HEAD: FIRST MEETING! C'MON MARION ...TIME TO WIN YOUR 4TH TITLE

It will depend on which Li shows up. Marion has to be steady all the way to the title, it will surely pay in the end. In Brisbane, Marion didn't start very well, made too many UE & overall, her serve was a major handicap. Conditions look pretty different here. She played a very solid match yesterday, showing that she has a plan B in case things are not going her way.

Li is well known for her capacity of hitting incredible winners but on the other hand, she can miss by miles. Marion has to make her 'bug'.
Allez Marion, time for a 4th title :D

Marion missed a cupcake putaway at 0-15,and then made an UE at 40-30 before Li made two great service returns for the break...then Marion had one excellent point at 30-30 to get break point on Li's serve.Once more, she got the break due to 2 DFs and an UE...back on serve...Marion at 40-0...

Quality was dreadful but Marion's consistency has been rewarded. Now there is room for improvement in the second set. Generally Li plays better in the last sets, so another match is starting now.

Marion played an absolutely horrendous lob attempt at 15-0,then followed with two excellent 1st serves.Li had a mental meltdown while arguing the point that took it to 40-30...then sailed her next serve return WAY out...bit of a choke but Marion forced it upon her:cool:

Now I can go to bed in peace. I will post more tomorrow about the match itself. It was a kind of remake of yesterday's match. Marion had a slow start and finished playing very solid tennis. Still I would say she was more impressive yesterday... but since she chose not to give angles to Li, it was expected that she wouldn't try to go for the winner. What would be the point when your opponent does the mistake for you?! :p

Love the thought that Marion has her 4th crown . Good night everyone & big bravo to Queen Marion!

Na Li controlled the next two games after falling behind 4-1,and then was the better player for most of Marion's next service game until,at break point,Marion pounded a first serve and then followed up with another good point where she sort of forced an error from Li.At game point,a Li UE put Marion up 5-3.What REALLY impressed me was what happened next:Marion simply took charge and kicked Li's ass on the next 3 points for 0-40 until a discouraged Li DF'ed to give Marion the title.

After the match:Glad to see that Marion doesn't speak Spanish too well cuz that'll keep the playboys away;).Very few Spanish-speaking ATPers can handle English(Nadal talks like a kindergartener),and even fewer can communicate in French,so Marion is safe from them:angel:....However,she understood the compliments that the tourney directors were giving here and the fans joyous applause was easy to read:).They were pleased at Marion's ALMOST-guarantee to visit us again in defending her title NEXT year....To recap,Marion played a solid,defensive-minded match vs. a player who HAD been kicking ass this week, and she deserved the win:D.....YEC-bound Marion:inlove:
