That's terrible! I hope she goes to Hobart, or even Auckland, and gets some wins there. I doubt she'd progress too far in Sydney. She needs to be seeded for AO. I guess it's not the end of the world though, she could get an unseeded opponent in 1R or a weak seed.

Will be lucky to qualify for the AO at this rate.

Sorana isn't actually playing that badly right now. The problem is more how Sori played the 1st six months of the year.

Right now it actually looks to me like she is starting to turn the corner. She's won 8 of her last 12 matches beating some decent players like Kvitova, Amanmuradova, Larsson, Nara, Jovanovski, Srebotnik and Halep. These are all solid wins. And the 4 players she lost too were all also in very good form.

Also on the positive side, after the US Open, where Sorana is defending 3rd round points, Sorana has ABSOLUTELY NO POINTS to defend for the rest of the year. And infact, aside from a 1st round win at the AO, Sori will have no other points to defend until Indian Wells. So while Sorana might fall again after the US Open, from then on I am very very confident we will start seeing her work her way back up the rankings.

She just needs to start wining again, at least 1st rounds and soon some quarterfinals and semifinals will come. And her ranking will improve much more!

Can't believe that her ranking is dropping so fast... Gosh, it seems that she'll have to play more challenges till the end of the year. On the other hand, I think that it could be good, so she can regain her confidence.

she doesn´t play monterrey, she is preparing in vegas with adidas team and I think Q for IW begins Monday and Nassau (Bahamas) is the second week of IW and then Miami Q but don´t know from when but if it begins already at the weekend (or Friday) and she will be at semis in Nassau it can be pretty bad because than I don´t know if she can catch the Q in Miami so will see, but she needs so many points now heading to RG and clay season if she make 4th in IW or Miami that would be huge or won Nassau or something. Just this is disaster

The last clay season she earned only 160 points (130 SF Estoril and 30 R2 Marbella)

The points of Grand Slams must be placed in the rankings. This rule is abiding for all players.

Madrid is one of the Premier manditory events, where you also have to place a certain amount of tournaments. :)

It has to be said.

Even though the top of the women's game seems much more reliable this season consolidating good results throughout the year, it can't be denied that there is basically no depth further down the rankings. Being consistent is anything you need these days to get yourself a decent ranking.

If Goerges can be ranked #21 (What has she done this year?) and Lepchenko #22, Sorana can be ranked up there as well.

Back in Top 30 this week since forever.

She is currently #24 in the Race, so she can even be seeded in the '3rd best group', not having to face an ansolute top player in R3.

Sorana is ranked #27 this week, so she is coming close to Dulgheru and Niculescu who were ranked #26 at their best.

She has nothing to defend in Miami and a really great draw to reach R3 and get at least 80 ranking points.

In view of the coming weeks she will play Charleston where she has nothing to defend, and even more interesting the MM in Casablanca where she is very likely to be Top seed. So her chances to get into a very good position for the big claycourt tournaments are huge.
Still we have to keep in mind the 130 points from Barcelona where she won't play this year as the tournament got canceled.

Sorana is comfortably ranked in the Top 30 in the Race, though, so no direct pressure on her in the next couple of weeks.

Sorana is ranked #27 this week, so she is coming close to Dulgheru and Niculescu who were ranked #26 at their best.

She herself was #23 at her best. Amazingly almost four years ago.

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but I'm pretty sure that it was only for one week (after the US Open) When her points for winning Tashkent came off the following week, she was out of Top 30 again.

Things look different this time, because she isn't the player anymore who only had a ranking based on two or three runs a year, so if she can get close Top 20 in the coming weeks, she will stay there for quite some time.

It was before the US Open, but yeah #23 was only for a week. 17 weeks inside top 30 in 2009. Entered after FO and dropped out once Tashkent points came off.
