Who will be the AO semifinalist from this quarter of the draw? While there are some mild favorites, the favorites aren't in the top of form so all of the 8 have a strong opportunity to make it to the semifinals.

3rd Round Draw

Dinara Safina
Kaia Kanepi

Daniela Hantuchova
Alize Cornet

Caroline Wozniacki
Jelena Dokic

Alisa Kleybanova
Ana Ivanovic

===

Analysis:

Dinara is the slight favorite to come through the draw but she can be vulnerable at times, losing the first set to Makarova today but playing excellently the next two sets.

Kaia has a big power game but hasn't proven herself in the later stages of a grand slam yet.

Daniela Hantuchova made it to the Semis last year, also beating Alize Cornet in that run (her 3rd round opponent), but she hasn't had very good results recently, and is going to need to up her form.

Alize is the rising french teenager who may surely break the top 10 at some point, but is she mentally tough enough to beat out some of these veteran players, especially on a hard court?

Caroline is sniffing the top 10 and while her game has become very consistent with no weaknesses, she may need to develop some bigger weapons to consistently get deep into grand slams.

Jelena Dokic played terrific tennis against Anna Chakvetadze for a set and a half... then she got a little tentative after a call didn't go her way, losing the big points. Though she regrouped, if she wants to go deep, she may need to re-learn how to close out matches the first time she has the opportunity. :D

Alisa... I don't know anything about her, and is probably the least well known player out of the rest of these 8 by fans and by the other seven players, which can be dangerous for her opponents. She is a rising one youngster and good that she has beaten her performance last year.

Ana Ivanovic... obviously, a champion, but she has been no doubt playing like she's a regular top 20 player especially with no coach and what not. Can she get it together and get another shot an AO final?

I picked Wozniacki, which is what I'm hoping for, but on paper Safina has the best chance. It sucks that they put SIX of my favorites in this same section: Ivanovic, Wozniacki, Chakvetadze, Dokic, Safina and Hantuchova. I want them all to win

I'd love to see Wozniacki or Dokic make it deep, but the others really haven't been looking too sharp so far. Both Safina and Ivanovic looked positively feeble in their 2nd and 1st rounds respectively. I like Ivanovic's chances against Kleybanova, but Safina might get quite a workout from Kanepi. I like Cornet, but I'm still not sold on her hardcourt credentials just yet. And Hantuchova is old news at this point.

Ana Ivanovic:

3-1 vs Safina (2-0 slams)
3-1 vs Hantuchova (1-0 slams)
2-0 vs Wozniacki (2-0 slams)
1-0 vs Cornet
0-0 vs other three
---------------------------
9-2 vs Quarter (5-0 slams)

And all this is enough for only GS winner and former WTA#1 from this Quarter which is also tournaments defending finalist... just for 3 votes (out of about 40) in this poll!?!?

Caroline ? She has the better chance

Safina always find it hard to manage her problems regarding the Aussie weather
Ana's form is slowly coming back but Caro is too strong right now, she will have to step it up a lot more

Because she's not playing well. The problems with H2H is they last forever (from the past).

Ivanovic based on experience alone she will make it! Safina may be the only one with a slight chance!

Safina, followed by Wozniacki.

I would also argue that the first quarter of the draw is quite open for a surprise semifinalist. As much as I like Jelena, she has been underwhelming.

I'am thinking Ana Ivanovic will be in the quaterfinals, usally players play well in tournaments they had sucess in.

4 people in this quarter have been to a GS SF or better
