Impressive stuff :worship:

Jan 20th, 2009, 10:42 AM
Stosur 28 winners to 46 errors or something and 3 aces, and Koukalova 14 winners and 28 unforced errors.

Pretty exciting match :) Sam never looked like losing though. I thought she would blitz through at 5-1 in the first

Congrats though.

Klara. Why did she look so sad on the court?

Good that you got through Sam but pick it up next round please.

Wow what a horrible match, lol. COngrats Sam, nevertheless! Keep it up... ehh...

Harvs
Jan 20th, 2009, 10:46 AM
lol sam played like a top 10 player in the first 6 games to lead 5-1... and then played like shit...

overall, a horrible match from her, will need to play much more consistently against lisicki if she wants to win...

Jan 20th, 2009, 10:47 AM
Nothing much to say about that much, just happy she got through I guess. She will have to pick it up BIG TIME if she is to beat Lisicki.

I felt sorry for Klara, why was she so sad ?

Jan 20th, 2009, 10:50 AM
Why was Klara so sad? She wasn't sad that was just her normal expression. Her happiness knows no bounds.

Sam :) I liked the way she held it together in the end, despite playing a truly woeful match. She is twice the player Klara is and should've wiped the court with her. She almost gave it away, but she will need to pick it up next round or else Lisicki will win comfortably.

Its werid how Sam is currently one of the best doubles players in the world right now, yet she couldn't play a decent volley tonight to save her life.

Jan 20th, 2009, 10:51 AM
Geez..good start but honestly if she doesn't pick it up against Lisicki she will go down in straight sets.

But glad to see Sam go through.

And Kookie always looks depressed on court, but she's very sweet off the court ;)

At least Klara has two WTA titles whereas Stosur has none. At it was not only Stosur who was playing terrible (those volleys :o), Klara also played shit.

Sam made that way to difficult for herself. If she wants to be a top 20 player she has to remove these lapses from her game.

to be fair, i dont see how klara could really improve her game much from tonight... she played pretty consistently but has no weapons to do much on the court except get balls back... on a clay court i can see how that could work (where she won her 2 titles) but i dont think she could potentially play a whole lot better than todays much.

thats just what i personally gathered from watching her play tonight

Flicked on the radio was I was still at AO and hear "Stosur has lost 2 successive breaks and is now 5-5" Man, she can struggles to close anything out.

Happy she got the win though.

Ugly Win, she seriosly needs a talk to Dave after the match, but i'm glad she is through none the less.

I never knew she was injured at all. Hopefully she will recover abit for her next match againest Lisicki

Sammy 4 eva!!!

Phew. Sam played well at times but overall a very sloppy match. Im just happy that she got through. Hopefully she can play well in doubles tomorrow and come out firing against Sabine.

Klara won one title on grass court and one on hardcourt. Believe me, I have seen Klara play a couple of times and she can play so much better than today. When she is on she hits a lot of winners off both wings. Her serve and her brain are weak as hell though. :o

I am not arguing that Stosur is the better player of those two which she is, but some of you guys really need to see things in perspective. Stosur played horrible, but Klara was far from being at her best too.

the 2nd set tiebreak from klara was the most pitiful thing i've seen, 7 shit errors to hand an obviously nervous sam the win :weirdo:

Jan 20th, 2009, 12:46 PM
Oh my EFFING God that was a horrible, horrible match and painful to watch. Wtf was that shit? :o One lesson for the Australian Open: Never, ever, ever, ever put Sam Stosur on the night match again. :o

And Klara was playing like shit as hell, how the hell is she a retriever if she hits tons and tons and tons of errors? And she hits like...20kph.

Congrats to Sam though. :p

Jan 20th, 2009, 12:51 PM
That was a terrible match... Sam really should have ripped through the match from 5-1 up. Just a lot of really bad shot selection, and bad volleys for someone who is an excellent player at the net.

But at least she won a round, because she's had some really poor (and unexpected) losses early in the AO before

I think it's funny how everyone keeps saying how Klara always looks sad, because I was thinking the same thing when I saw her at the US Open :) That being said though, she looked beautiful!

As soon as Sam believes in herself, she will be top 20 without a doubt. Klara has one of those games that annoys her opponents, not hard enough and not soft enough. Geez she's a fighter though!
Sam was missing volleys on crucial points, she needs to be at the net alot more.
I found Alicia Molik's comments interesting though. She said that Sam has the "best serve in womens tennis, no-one else can kick it as high as her" and that "David Taylor is happy for you to hit the ball as hard as you like, as long as you use spin".
This match was removing the dust from her loss to Serena...lucky to get through...but yes, a wins a win.;)

Sam has gotten a lot stronger in the off season. Her muscles are huge now and she's a step faster. But man alive is she a choker. So many missed 1st serves and horribly botched volleys.

pav
Jan 21st, 2009, 02:36 AM
Yes looks like Sam has spent the last year building up her muscles, and she must be hanging out with Dokic, same blast away at everything game, never mind both worked this time :)

Glad she won R1 at AO. Considering her history in Melbourne that's a great score. Plus she defeated a player whom defeated her only few days ago.
