 So sad for McHale and she was crying after she lost. I was hoping she would be able to fight through it, considering how bad Moore was playing.

Nice effort. Seems promising.

What a shame for McHale. She's got great game - more potential than Moore, imo, but it was just too tough for her to win this one.

Great fight Christina, she probably would have taken this match if she didn't have bum legs. :o

Moore IMO did not deserve the WC, besides being the top Aussie not directly in, I felt Sophie deserved to get one more and Moore has gotten her 3rd lucky 1st round match in a major.

Mchale...definitely got more potential. She started cramping at the end which is a shame! Definitely a player to look out for

Really great effort by Christina to fight through full body cramps in the third and push Moore so far. I hope she recovers well for the girls event, and she certainly has a lot of potential. Also, props to her for even agreeing to be interviewed by Pam after the match in spite of her emotions. Moore deserves to be commended too, however, because she battled her own nerves and an injured opponent to get the win in the end.

Great effort from McHale she kept trying and digging deep. Def has potential, has a great defensive game and also aggressive, also great experience for her playing against an aussie infront of an aussie crowd.

WD jess another 2rd, gave me a few heart attacks during the match, going to have to step it up in the next round.

They both played amazing tennis! II really enjoyed this match.

've never even heard of McHale. Not so sure the cramps did her in at the end, but she lost a precious game or two earlier in the set due to them.

Shiiiiiiit. What a crappy time to get your first cramp.

Well done Jess! Lots of drama in this match. Great effort to defend last year's points.

Felt bad for Christina. She has a nice game and lots of potential.

I was hoping Christina could pull off the win.

Too bad the cramps came or else she would of won this match. :(

That was really sad to watch. I wanted to cry at the end with her. She is definitely a girl I am gonna watch for. And since she is from Jersey, thats a plus for me.

Not neccessarily, Jess was getting into a nice rhythm before Christina started cramping, I think it actually threw Jess off her game, she got confused and didn't know how to handle the injured opponent.

It was pretty good quality tennis, great fighting from both players. Christina was hitting everything in the first set and there was nothing Jess could do, in the second she started to break down Christina and played a gritty match.

Either way Christina is a sixteen year old to watch ;) She will be a very good player. I have no dount.

Well done Jess :D
Good to see that she has FINALLY been able to capture some sort of form and score a win. Would have been very hard but hopefully like Jelena now she has the monkey off her back.
Good luck in R2

Didn't see the match but great effort from McHale in her debut. Looks like the Americans and the Aussies have some promising players coming up :D

Jess is the american GS debut killer, last yr she beat Ditty at the AO in her 1st GS, then she beat Oudin in the USO in her first GS and now McHale in her first GS. lol

Well if she disappeared after the first set, she would have lost. Plain and simple. You guys should give her some credit for sticking in and toughing it out

Was it just me, or did anyone else yell "Drop-shot her!" at their TV set when McHale started cramping? Jessica Moore has ZERO killer instinct.

Exactly! When she wasn't hitting the ball right at McHale, she was dumping it into the net. Moore should have bageled McHale in the third set. Period.

Moore won that match completely with her fighting qualities full stop. The injury didn't affect the match much at all. This match meant a lot to both of them, it was heart breaking to see Christina crying at the end of the match and it was heartening to see how plain relieved and happy Jess was at the end of the match

I think both girls have a good future. Christina's serve is scaringly good. Jess' fighting attitude and counter punching game finally started coming together by the end. Good forehand as well by 3-5 down, played her best tennis then.

Hopefully this finally takes the pressure off her from defending the points and can go out and play some good tennis.

I thought the same thing, but honestly i'm not sure if it would have mattered. McHale was moving quite well once the point was started. Grr she should have won. I don't know why she wasn't hydrating herself better. :(

It's called making the best of your draw. Players do not choose who they play, all they can do is go out and play the best they can against the allocated opponent.

Personally I didn't think it was a great match by Moore, however she is the one that came out with the points and the prize money so good luck to her in the next round.

Shame McHale couldn't have come through this one. Jess got spanked in her last couple of matches on the Tour (2 & 0 Vinci, 0 & 3 Govortsova) and then gets as 'easy' draw here to defend her points. Still not convinced by her, but let's see where she ends up in 12 months time

I was more impressed by the standard of play than i expected to be. i thought it would like watching a girls match. McHale certainly has a good ground game. Moore looks to have grown a bit as well which might explain her bad form because it's often a difficult transition.

Have nothing against Moore but two slams in a row she got a very lucky first round that basicly inflate her ranking

First look at Christina and she is very impressive. Awesome serve and forehand, pretty quick around the court too. I don't like her backhand technique, she needs to come over the ball a bit more but she is only 16. A great experience for her.

don't want to take anything from Mchale but i don't know how she was limping between points like she could barely walk and then the point started and she moved pretty much fine..her cramps really didn't effect the outcome of the match besides throwing jess off.

i have to agree. she was hitting some amazing on the run winners late in the 3rd set. cramps don't just go away. i always took issues with Henin on that point as well.

It was sad for McHale... but even more sad for tennis that lines-callers got so wrapped up in the drama that they stopped calling the match. When she was "near death" and serving in the third set she was CLEARLY starting her serve with her foot "ON" and 'OVER" the baseline. NO ONE called FOOT FAULT!!! What's up with that?
I mean, I was sad for her too... but that's no reason to abandoned the rules of tennis... is it?

Have you experienced cramps first hand? They do go away after awhile.... Christina had bad bad cramps when she was leading 4-3 and it kind of went away by 6 all. The muscles would still be sore but it wouldn't be as painful.

Do you people say anything different? All I hear is the same inflated ranking better easy draws over and over  We get the damn point, the horse is clearly well and truely beaten.
