Kerber put up a good fight but Venus finally patched things up at the end. Overall good to get through. Venus seems to have first round jitters at Melbourne, and she avoided the yellow curse so overall a positive match. :yeah:

i would say i loved venus's backhand slice for her defense and aces

but she didn't save break points well! and didn't convert the ones she had efficiently!

except the first few games and last few games, venus wasn't aggressive enough! her returns were so predictable - crosscourt! and her shots and returns aren't deep enough!

and she needs to work on her volleys! missed quite a lot of them...

also, she wasn't quick enough to get to the net when her opponent threw drop shots to her....she should work on footwork too!

But, a win is a win, hopefully Venus will keep improving and keep raising her level of play!

its the first grand slam.no one is ever satisfied when venus wins.hell dementieva went 3 sets and she is the number 4.the first rounds are always when the lesser players try to take it to the top girls.hell venus needs these rough test early on so that she can stay alert and know that she has to fight.her opponent raised her level and then so did venus so good going.she was playing an opponent who wanted to make a name for herself and win so she took it to vee. vee didnt fall for it and went to work and closed it out correctly.so what if she had a few games where she took a walk about the point is she won.

:hearts: Venus
She looked beautiful out there w/ that bright yellow. I honestly didn't notice the pimples but

AndI honestly thought Venus played solid while apparently most people here thought she was bad. And I thought Serena played awful, not moving well, not in the best shape, not serving well, not defending well, too passive, and making a few too many errors on her big shots but everyone thought she was amazing. so

As for Venus, she wasn't aggressive enough? yes but she hasn't been that aggressive since Fall '08. As long as she's moving well and keeping her errors down so far it doesn't seem to be a problem. Against a zoning top player maybe but against lower ranked players it's more than enough. I thought her movement was good, although not as crisp in the 2nd set as it was in the first. Venus threw in like 2 really bad service games, and a couple give aways on Kerber's serve but other than that Kerber played well at times and Venus was just too solid for Kerber.

Anyways :inlove: w/ Venus whole look. And I hope she can improve her form. Good luck in the next round Venus :yeah:

Venus started out playing excellent tennis but as usual she loses concentration during matches. If Kremer wasn't scared and had a bit more experience she might have pulled out that second set. It was good Venus had a mini-test, she needed that type of match.

Up to 5-0 first set, she was playing like a dream but then seemed to lose a bit of concentration. In the second set, Kerber really upped her level and started playing some fine tennis so Vee did well to shut her out 6-3. I loved those lobs and well glad to see that this match was much more convincing than her 1st round in Australia last year :) Good luck against Navarro :bounce:

I don't know why everyone is freaking about the dress. Yellow did her fine on the red clay in 06. She wasn't crushing everybody but she did good.

Also, she wearing the hot pink pants that saw her to two titles last winter! The pictures that I've seen of the dress look very greeny yellow, or maybe yellowy green, idk.

g Vee played well. She came out firing playing better than Serena, but Serena had played in hotter conditions. But anyway, Venus played well, her movement, the aces, the forehand, I LOVED!!! It was great 2 c Kerber playing within her own taking it to Vee, great job 2 her. The yellow dress curse...c'mon ppl lol. 6 more matches 2 go and i'm confident that Vee will handle her business, stay focused and WIN her first Aussie Open.

Whats with this yellow curse? Basically her entire summer streak in 2000 was played in a yellow dress:lol:

Well it seems Venjus played a solid enough match to get through, just slowly working through her game and the conditions. It's good for her though that she can play at a lower level but still win reatively comfortably.

Good job Vee:D

i saw the pimple as well. whenever i get pimples that big, which is rare, I go to the dermatologist, they inject it and it's gone the next day. Or they do an extraction and i'm not rich like her but I do it anyway.
