last night we had dellacqua. tonight we have stosur. meanwhile, the top 5 seeds continue to play in the day.

is this because they'd like to see aussie ladies in the evening? well, if that's the case, why don't they put the aussie men on at night as well? but no, last night we had federer and tonight it's rafa.

double standards, if you ask me.

and while i'm cribbing about scheduling, can you believe that vika (who just won brisbane) is out on court 13? that's just ridiculous.

:spit: Yes it's true, all the aussies play at night. Eventually though there won't be any left and the real talent can play night matches :yeah:

They care about the crowd more than international TV viewers, I guess.

fair enough, but like i said, why not put the aussie men on at night as well? does the aussie crowd only care about the women and not the guys? i find that a little hard to believe.

maybe because these AUS women (are seen to) have a greater chance of winning than their male counterparts?

tomorrow we'll probably have dokic

The reason that they don't have Aussie women FOLLOWED BY Aussie men is to please pains like you. There would be heaps of complaints flooding in if all the international fans were watching Dellacqua/Guccione, Stosur/Hewitt so they try and find a bit of a balance by putting some of the Aussie women on and putting the world's top men on afterwards.

In case you don't know both Stosur and Dellacqua are ranked higher than our No.1 man too.
Oh and don't be surprised if Dokic vs. Chakvetadze is the main RLA night match tomorrow
After all it is the AUSTRALIAN OPEN and these matches (at this stage of the tournament) are far more competitive than Williams vs. Yuan or Jankovic vs. Meusberger

Good point, they do seem to put more Aussie women on at night than Aussie men. Hewitt and Guccione are probably the male 'equivalents' to Dellacqua and Stosur, as the main Australian players that are well-known and would rouse up the crowd. So at the moment they wouldn't put people like Adamczak or Groth on at night, unless they were playing the world #1 maybe, when they could have a more recognised Aussie.

I'm sure we will see Hewitt on at night at some stage, if he's to beat Gonzalez. I guess because Federer and Nadal are so well known and recognised that they are always crowd pleasers, I guess that's why they've been chosen over any Aussie men for the first two nights.

Also a match like Jankovic-Meusburger on at night would be a total fizzer over and done with in an hour. So obviously putting an Aussie like Stosur or Dellacqua on will make for a much more exciting night atmoshpere.

Name-wise, Hantuchova vs Dellacqua was a good match for the night session. Hantuchova reached semi finals last season and Dellacqua fourth round, so no problems with that.

Also Stosur has a good game and these kind of matches use to be much more interesting than the Jankovic vs Meusburger or Serena vs Yuan. Kanepi vs Molik or Kostanic vs Stosur were good examples of how these matches can be actually entertaining.

Because the top seeds arent playing anyone that is expected to challenge them.....The Australian women matches are expected to be close......

why do we have to bear mugduck and flake on USO nights is beyond me too
its not that they are likely to ever win the USO again or for the first time

So that the casual, everyday fans of tennis (which will be the vast amjority of the crowd) have somebody to support. It helps create a better atmosphere having a native player, rather than two randomers to the public.

Actually Hewitt normally only plays at night. He is scheduled for late afternoon just before the night session begins anyway.

And since when did night match = most important match? I'd say the spot Hewitt has just before the night session starts is the biggest one. Alot of people aren't even in their seats for the night session at the start.

Yes they like to show big names all the time, but most of them have drawn opponents that will lead to a thrashing, and then they wonder why people say it is borning until the second week!

I think there lame because Dellaqua and Stosur are not high profile exciting personalitites to watch play the sport of tennis. Being on at night is a fact, but their lame to watch. I just find these 2 players boring as hell to watch on TV. Another player I want to beat down watching is Marion Bartoli. All that moving and bouncing around like a fool. Gawd, I can't stand watching her play. Sorry,I'm being negative here but I REALLY can't stand to watch Bartoli play the game of tennis. Her serving looks stupid and it doesn't work. I can't stand it when she tip toes. I'm against her dumb orthodox methods that don't work. Ok you heard it here first, everytime Bartoli plays and I see it on my screen, I just feel like beating her ass. LMAO.

You do realise an evening match in melbourne is not prime time viewing internationally, in fact it is is a 7.30am veiwing in New york, i wuld say it is the early morning that is prime time internationally.
