Horrible match really, but a lot of drama and several high quality points!!

Daniela started playing some smart tennis when she was nervous. :yeah: good job.

casey gave away that first set like nothing else, what a joke.

re-learn to play tennis pleae casey... she deserves a big drop in the rankings for the way she played:(

Pathetic Dellacqua. She goes up a break 3 times in the 1st set, serves for it 2 times, double faults on her 1st set point, serves for the tiebreak and still manages to gift the 1st set to an out of sorts and out of form Hantuchova. Even when Hantuchova went down 0-40 serving or the match I knew she would still hold against this mental midget.

Never easy to play against local player at a Grand Slam.

What a shithouse match that was. Tracy Austin must be on drugs for suggesting it was a 'great first round match of high quality tennis'. LOL.

Daniela played horrible tennis, and if she was against a better player she would've lost in straight sets. There were some glimpses of good play from both players, but at this level, the overall quality we saw tonight was pathetic :help:

Casey lol. Such a shame to see her game disappear after just one year. Hopefully she will work incredibly hard to get it back. She is ranked like 80 in the world now and she isn't going to get many favorable draws in the smaller tournaments.(Which she needs to play) She has 3 round points to defend at the French and Wimbledon as well as 4th round points at Indian Wells. If she can lose as little points as possible she might get back up the rankings because she has no points to defend at the end of the year.

Dani better back up his win now!! She was playing very bad but pretty good serving at crucial moments. Hopefully this match takes some of the pressure off her back and she can at least make the third or fourth round.

Casey literally threw away the match.
Very surprised Dani didn't choke and played well under pressure though.
Pick up your game next round!

First set was horrid from both. But from 2-1 in the second set I actually think they both played pretty decent tennis. Some really high quality points towards the end too.

Omg, Daniela what was that challenge on the lob?? :help:

Good luck against Johannson next! :yeah:

i was listening to the match on AO radio and they did an interview with daniela afterwards and the interviewer said "last year you were a semi-finalist, but we won't mention what happened. being 6-0, 2-0 up and then losing". lol

You could tell by her expressions that she knew it was out but she was just going to challenge anyways because the idea of challenging was on her mind, especially because she didn't decide to challenge on the previous point which was much closer, and you know she likes to take a lot of time in between points and it was during a tense moment in the match so she needed more time.

Casey had serves for the 1st set twice! Then had 5 set points, but lost the first set.

Then Hantuchova served for the match down 0-40 and still managed to win the final game. LOL so much drama and I rolled my eyes whenever they showed Casey's grandma and the rest of her German looking family.

I can agree with you there. Dellacqua and Hantuchova certainly don't play tennis to entertain me!

I doubt Hantuchova's main goal in tennis is her next meal. :tape:

A dire first set, until the tie-break where things picked up a tad. There were some stunning winners from both, but there was breaks all over the place and so much tension. A typical Slam match when both players are so low on confidence, coming off injury problems.

To her credit i thought Daniela played a better second set. She seemed to moving quite well along the baseline, which is encouraging news after her heel injury, so that wasnt a factor at all in my eyes. She started constructing the points better, using high topspin to nullify the shot-making of Casey, and she did attack when it called for it. Hardly the audacious Daniela of this time last year, but solid enough. I thought she served allright too in the second.

Casey was just far too erratic, really switching from the sublime to the ridiculous. Some excellent drives followed by just the most basic errors. There was one forehand when she had a set point, that she just tapped into the bottom of the net. It's a shame about her injury last year, because she really looked like she could come to Australia with a real chance to do some damage and recreate last years efforts.

Daniela does need substantial improvement, but i hope this gives her confidence. It's the best i've seen her play since IW to be honest. Not great, but not bad either.

This was a match of NERVES. They were both thinking about losing ranking points becasue of what they did last year. I thought it was entertaining just watching there nerves. I was laughin out loud. This was a battle of whoever pisses in their pants first would lose. Casey was the one who leaked. LMAO

Actually, Daniela won a tough first rd match. She's low on confidence and she played a Aussie player. Gosh this girl makes me scream though. She has alot of shot making ability and net game but refuse to relax her mind!! DANI's coach needs to work on making Dani move forward, get her ass to NET! She has angles, drop shots, lobs and can hit off both wings. But plays stupid at times. Anyway, well done and your into the next rd You big bobble headed midget.

I knew the match would be sloppy because the points to defend from both, but that one forehand winner on the run to save setpoint by daniela i thought was pretty sick. i know casey lost of opportunities in the first, mostly on her errors. i thought the second set was alot better than the first, it was higher in quality at least.
