Horrible match.

Ana NEEDS to get better if she wants to do well here.

A top 50 player would've eaten her alive today.

Josh.

My god that was horrendous. :help: Please someone take her out.

Please get better. Even though I dont like you, Id rather see you than a random player

Strange match. Glad Ivanovic came through, but really it seamed as though the match was in Georges hands not Ivanovic's.
Georges really could have won in straight-sets if she could have kept it together at the key points.

While i`m glad that Ana won, i`m not pleased with how she played. Obviously the serve needs work, especially the toss. Still i`m glad that Ana won the match in straight sets. :clap2: If anything, today`s match will show her what she needs to work on.

She honestly makes woman's tennis looks like a joke. She shouldn't be able to win matches playing like this, the only reasons she can is because she is Ivanovic and the opposition is intimidated by who she is and what she has achieved in the past.

Brianti will knock her out next round.

A win is a win.
Let's just hope Ana will raise the level of her game as the tournament progresses.

Jan 19th, 2009, 02:00 AM
Oh god.
This was the worst match ever.
Goerges started so well, if she had found a way to play at this level the whole match, it was over. She a a BP to go 4*-1.

Ivanovic was a complete mess.
She catched her toss every time and nerve apologized. :o

It is true, any top 50 player would've destroyed her.
She is so lucky to faces Brianti in the next round. :tape:

Just a hideous match. At least she won in straights because it could have easily been a three set struggle, and in this heat that would have been bad for her.

Goerges has some serious firepower. If she can learn to use it more smartly, she could be going places.
Ivanovic looked very nervous and tense. Her ball toss... :help: Reminded me of that FO final she lost to Henin.
Hopefully she'll settle down a bit now that she's through to the 2nd round.

What a horrible match and people were going on about Dokic's match. It was horrible to watch from both girls. Ana is not looking like a top 10 player ATM far from it. Her ball toss is horendous her backhand is going backwards her her forehand doesnt seem to have any conviction or depth. I dont get what has happened to her. There is no smoothness there its all very rough and scratchy.

Ugly match indeed. Ana's ball toss was all over the place. She was lucky Goerges doesn't know what to do with her defensive shots -- her trademark moonball shots. The way Goerges botched those smash was really :o. So many UEs from both players. Ana's forehand was still hit and miss but really those defensive shots was what saved her in several games. Goerges was even having trouble returning some sitters that was just begging to be put away.

Glad that Ana won but I don't hold any hope that she is going to get far with that kind of play. At least she showed some grit in fighting her way to a win in spite of her obvious lack of form.

Me neither. Her game is still out of sorts. She'll hit two consecutive winners and then hit two consecutive unforced errors. Really no rhythm at all.

Couldn't say it any better.

Watched this match in the early hours of the morning. Ivanovic was very passive - she looked afraid to go for her shots - not a good sign! The ball toss problems was probably down to nerves - she certainly looked it. About time hired a tennis psychologist!

As for Goerges - nice groundstrokes but seems to be unable to hit an approach shot that does not fly miles long, volley or smash - WHO is coaching her??!! She missed four easy smashes early on in the first set!!! Cringe-worthy!

Maybe the WTA should try and do something about the glaring absence of all-court skills of upcoming players!

Ana changed her service motion.. changed her grip.. all because of that unfortunate thumb injury. Now her shots suck and her serve is :tape::help:. She needs a full time coach ASAP. According to Matt Cronin she is going to get one right after the Australian Open, which gives me some confort. She should also see a sports psychologist, to sort out her head.. but that still doesn't seem to be in her plans.

Oh my god this comment ist so . Have you ever seen her in other matches? She reached two WTA semi-finals (Stockholm 2007 and Portoroz 2008). And in Wimbledon she reaches 2nd round last year beating Srebotnik in first round. I think, you never saw a really bad player.

Goerges has some weakenings thats right, but she is not that bad.

I only saw the first set and then fell asleep :p Anyway, Julia played quite good the first couple of games and than all those errors :weirdo: she missed quite some easy balls (overheads, short balls etc). If she didn't bashed the balls so brainless she could have taken the first set and who knows what could happen in the second.

And Ana needs to step it up otherwise she is going to lose to a player who can keep there shots in the court :tape: hope she loses in the second round, her tennis is atrocious to look at

Yes, you are totally right. Goerges missed easy balls. A player like Lisicki oder other young talents for example, would have beaten Ivanovic today.
