pressure on her to win the AO. I would say JJ, she the #1and has never won a major. She's going to be under tons of pressure to win this major and god forbid if she does not will it I fear what the headlines would read the next day.

Venus, too many people are calling her the favorite:o

No way does Venus have any pressure on her why would they be...she's never won it before and always goes out early in the tournament so I don't see how there's pressure on her. Like I said JJ has all the pressure on her and it might even hamper her performance in the tournament.

JJ does have the most. Many people believe she's not derserving of that #1 ranking, So all eyes will be on her to see whether she can prove herself.

Dementieva. If she can't win here, on this kind of run, with no Sharapova present, she never will.

JJ has no pressure, I doubt she puts much pressure on herself. She herself has said, she would rather be #1 than be lucky for 2 weeks and win a slam. I think she wants to win one, but #1 is more a of a priority to her.

You actually believe that? What else is she suppose to say.

True, it is her only big singles accomplishment, so she is playing it out to be the best one to her. But then again JJ did work hard and got more muscle probably to try to win a slam this year. So she does have some pressure, but I do feel Venus and Elena have more pressure than her since to me they are the bigger favorites:shrug:

1. Jelena
2. Venus (just because she is the "clear favorite")
3. Elena (if not now, I don't think she will)

VENUS! And to worsen things, Venus is a known choker....
Dementieva is the clear favourite, but I think Venus might actually win (If she doesn't choke on her probable encounter with Serena in the semis...)

1. Elena, If she doesnt win here, she probably wont get another chance and I'm sure she knows that
2. Venus, she is the favorite to win in many peoples eyes..... she says she doesnt pay attention to what other people say though....

long way down JJ, sorry, but noone actually expects her to win, so any pressure she feels shes putting on herself......(safina is also in this boat IMO)

a 7 time grand slam champion is a known choker..... If you say so.....

Venus has defended 3 Major titles... noone else in this generation has down that, and theres no pressure like being defending champion...

No sharapova present..what the heck are you talking about they are better players in this tournament that's better than maria and who can easily take out demented. YOu are acting as though maria is the best player on the WTA....give me a break. Maria knows that even if she was not injured she would not have defended her title.

Of course, she won it last year when she was healthy but she probably doesn't think she can do it again, SU, there is only 2 better players than Maria in this tournament, and only ONE who has better results than Maria in this event.

1,Venus- one of her last chances at an AO title. She's on a big run, there's no Sharapova and everyone seems sort of out of form. One of her last best chances at a major outside of Wimbledon.

2.Serena- she's the best player of this generation and it's an odd year at AO  As Serena Williams, the pressure is always high at slams. Luckily, she handles it 10x better than Venus or anyone else.

Jankovic/Dementieva: as much as people rant on about these two.. no one REALLY expects them to win. The WS are the favorites for this title.

I am afraid she won't be able to handle it well though.

Lena, like wine and the other finer things in life, is only improving with age. I don't think this is a now or never situation for her, though it will be interesting to see how she handles being on the shortlist of favorites (a gold medal from Beijing and a semifinal run in NYC make me think she might do okay; memories of the '07 FO and '05 AO make me think she won't). I don't think she's under that much pressure, but Lord only knows what's going on in that pretty blond head of hers.

Venus? There's some pressure, but she has nothing to prove. Everybody knows she's one of the best of her time. I think she's cool, confident and ready to win somewhere besides Wimbledon.

JJ? IMHO she has to prove something. Rightly or wrongly there is a perception that slamless #1 is somehow not as legit as a #1 with a slam. I think she has to be feeling the most pressure. At the same time, that ranking has bought her a very doable draw.

I think Dinara may be feeling some pressure. She's moved up to #3, but hasn't had that big win that would cement her as being one of the game's elites. This is a huge chance for her to do so, but it brings some pressure.

Ana and Sveta both need to get their games back on track. They have to be hearing footsteps from Aga, Vika, Caro, etc. Both need a decent run to reassert themselves.

Serena? It's a question of fitness, not pressure. If she's fit, she's a threat. If not, she's outta there. That simple.

Last time I checked, Sharapova has never beaten Venus at a Grand Slam. Give me a break with "there's no Sharapova" crap. :fiery:

True, but I can't imagine anybody who looks at a draw and goes "Oh goody, I get to play TOB!"

I don't imagine Venus wets herself and bursts into tears, either, but anybody with half a brain is happy to avoid a multislam winner and former #1.

thats where i think you're wrong..... Venus has beaten much better players than Sharapova in her day and the fact is when you're a Venus or a Serena or a Sharapova at that you're not looking to just make the quaters, you enter a tournament you expect to win. so regardless of whose put in front of them i dont think their mindsets change.

If Jelena doesn't win this tournament, they will never let her live it down. Even now, she can barely have an interview without some challenging her about her ranking.

But, she's in round 3 doing what she has to do to get through the draw, so?????
