maybe they weren't interested or couldn't afford her. a lot of these companies are cutting back. i can't imagine her signing with them if one of the big three, or even yonex was willing to sign her. anyway, good luck to her with this.

This report simply says
A:This is the first tennis player to represent Anta.
B:Jelena says she is very much "honored" to cooperate with a leading chinese brand, the service is very "professional",and she loves the designs of Anta with very chinese style, and she hope she can do something for the tennis popularization in China.
C:Anta will design Jelena's exclusive products named "JJ Generation",including outfit, shoes, and "other eqipment".

I like that she has done this. I hate it when all the players stick to the 5 or 6 main sponsors and we see loads of players all wearing the same thing. At least she will have unique outfits and will most likely have input into the collections.

Is Anta better or worse than Li Ning? I'm kind of worried about this "very chinese style" of JJ's outfits. I hope they look good and she gets her own designs for the slams unlike poor Ana who has to pick off the rails outfits. Will she wear more shorts like at HK? I'm always a fan of seeing the players in shorts on court.

They are talking about the traditional Chinese dress that all the players have put on in Beijing tournament, maybe for the players' party, I think. There have been pictures of them wearing them in different colors. It's a little joke, saying she will play in this dress.

What aspects are you questioning?:unsure:The design? The popularity? The reputation?

Anta is very famous in China, probably it is a little less popular than Lining in China, but, they are now vowing to focus on Jelena and they have "top designers from many countries".I thinik it's good for both Jelena and Anta.:)

Let's wait and see:)

On 18th January 2009, a day before the start of the first Grand Slam of 2009, the Australian Open, leading Chinese sports company Anta announced that it had signed a contract with world no.1 women’s tennis player Jelena Jankovic, in a bid to break into the women’s tennis market. Jankovic will become the first women’s tennis player to endorse Anta. This is also the first time that a Chinese sports company has signed a deal with a sportsperson ranked no.1 in the world.

At the signing ceremony, Jankovic, wearing a traditional Chinese outfit, a qi pao, received shoes specially designed for her – the JJ Generation 1, representing the start of the collaboration between Anta and Jankovic. ‘The success of the Beijing Olympics has proved that China has already become an international sporting superpower,’ said Jankovic at the press conference. I feel very honoured to sign with a leading Chinese sports brand. After some time of contact with them, I felt that Anta’s products and services were very professional, and I really like the gear that Anta has designed for me. I hope our collaboration will help to promote tennis, especially development of tennis in China.” After the press conference, Jankovic, with a Chinese ‘fortune knot’ (I didn’t know how to translate this :o) wished her Chinese fans a happy Chinese New Year.

It is understood that, as long as the contract between Anta and Jankovic lasts, the world’s no.1 player will wear Anta sports gear in all her training sessions and tournaments, including shoes, outfits and accessories. For this purpose, Anta has assembled a top-class product design team. In a short period of time, American and Japanese design teams have worked together to fit Jankovic with tailor-made tennis shoes and competition outfits. After consulting Jankovic, the designers have incorporated many Chinese elements into the products she would promote, combining Oriental beauty with chic. ‘To work together with the world’s number 1 tennis player is not only a first for Anta, but also a first for Chinese sport,’ an Anta statement indicated. ‘Jelena Jankovic’s sportsmanship in competition is coherent with the Anta motto “Keep moving”. Our collaboration shows that Anta now has world-class tennis resources, and tennis will become, after basketball, Anta’s most important market in the future. Anta will release a series of ‘JJ’ products exclusively for Jankovic, with an eye to taking the world of women’s tennis by storm.

Jankovic is the best defensive player in the women’s game today with equally potent forehands and backhands. Her backhand down-the-line is a classic signature shot. In the 2008 WTA season, Jankovic had 65 wins to 19 losses, winning 4 WTA tournaments, and reached the WTA number 1 position for the first time on 11th August, 2008, becoming the 18th number 1 in the history of women’s tennis. After the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, on 6th October 2008, Jankovic regained the number 1 position and has retained that position up till now. Regarding the upcoming Australian Open, Jankovic confidently said that she was in good form, and with the help of her all-new Anta gear, is confident about the Australian Open.

nike has serena, maria, roger and nadal.

they don't need jankovic who frankly is not in their league in terms of star power. nike only takes the absolute cream for those lucrative contracts, as evidenced in the marquee tennis talent i've listed.

reebok is not doing so well financially.

adidas has ivanovic for now. and, jankovic probably would not want to share that spotlight with ivanovic, especially with a brand that does not have the presence of a nike.

I for first time heard about Anta thanks to this thread (when i see title i thinks it typo and that JJ sign contract with Ana... maybe for some MUD WRESTLING match ). I check company site - theirs most known international sportstar before JJ is Argentinian (and Houston) basketball player Luis Scolla - so Jelena will be obviously theirs brand-face. I think all that negotiations with Li Ning helped Jelena to make this deal (like when Real steal in last moment some soccer player which nogotiate with Barca, or Inter from Milan...etc).

If Jelena happy with this contract in terms of $$$ and other conditions... it's good deal, especially now when many of well-known brand giants is actually in deep crisis and even close to bankruptcy. If nobody (out of China) not heard about this brand - now all who follow tennis knows about Anta.

maybe they weren't interested or couldn't afford her. a lot of these companies are cutting back. i can't imagine her signing with them if one of the big three, or even yonex was willing to sign her. anyway, good luck to her with this.

I'm sure she would'nt have signed if Anta didn't make the best offer!
China has a booming industry and tennis is becoming really popular...
I can see them spending a lot of money to make Anta a global brandmark!

Maybe I can get myself some of those lovely puke green JJ shoes when I am in China in March. Do you think they will have them in the shops by then? Seriously, if she's getting a great deal then good for her, I just hope the design looks good and don't make her look like a soggy pudding(like Demented in Yonex).

Speaking of disliking a brand, I hate Adidas for years due to the chav connection. Every little yob around town used to wear the 3-stripe track-suit bottoms 24 hours a day. It was like a uniform. Then they moved on to Kappa and the girls with the Croydon Facelifts used to be called "Kappa Slappas".

Aren't all of the big threes clothes made in China anyway, they'll probably be made in the same factories half the time. Anyway they are bringing in foreign designers to make JJ collection. I don't know anything about the brand but if they want to expand into a larger non-Chinese market they will have to ensure that their products are of the right quality. I imagine that they should have the skills and resources to do that.

well i think it's a good decision for jelena. i didn't know this brand at all but as some of you've said earlier in this thread, it's good to see players with other brands.
personnally, i thought she wouldn't sign with nike because she cares a lot about her looks, she has already been sponsored by adidas in her early years on tour, if I remember well, so i knew she would have a special clothing line.
i'd like to know if this brand is middle range or top of the range, comparing to nike or adidas...
i saw some of the shoes they make, and they look cheap (well, nike can look cheap too) and ugly.
i know jelena will know how to personalize her stuff :hearts: i'm eagerly looking forward to see her :)

Typical answer from a westerner. Most of the stuff you buy are all either made in China or in Asia this includes high fashion labels such as Raf Simons etc etc, all under the same conditions, and just so you know, the people who work there earn more money then they would if they were working in the farms. I think you need to look at GDP for the country alone to see how well they are paid as opposed to how much you are being paid. Plus the cost of living is less there, and it isnt a consumer spending society such as the US etc where people spend on luxuries, you will find the Chinese spend on only necessities, and save about 80% of their profits, just a typical Chinese trait i admire.

Anyways it will only be a matter of time before Anta is a leading sports apparel with Nike and Adidas, Anta gets all its money from its huge Chinese market, there are like 8billion people in this world, if right now they sell only to its chinese group that is already +1billion people, and that alone im sure gives them enough revenue, with this endorsement it will allow them to expand internationally. Great to see JJ supporting this as well, cant wait for the outfits.

When I read the news I felt like going to work without realizing that I were wearing pyjamas.
Anta is one of the 'best' sports brands in China but it is not classic enough to be world known and in China it is more of selling to students and smaller cities. ADIDAS, NIKE & things like that take the majority in big cities.
Yet undoubtfully it is a great move for ANTA.

There are two more pics I saw in a forum...
