jelena, elena, serena, venus, whatever. who cares? like the stupid uso, this ao has little appeal without the golden blonde.

come back soon, masha. every slam played without you is utter shite. :)

It is for all Maria fans. It sucks. But what can you do?

Yes I agree, the US Open was boring without Magic

I enjoy Maria though.

It will be so much better without commentators kissing her ass every time she plays and having to go through hours of her shrieks every second day :)

Much better Australian Open, now some other girls will get a go on Rod Laver instead of her...I don't see anything bad about her not being in the Aussie Open.

But im still excited for the open.

....If you had such little appeal to the AO, you would not have created a thread on who you think will make the final and you wouldn't have created a thread asking Maria fans who you think will win.
Instead you create this useless thread

Exuse me all the commentators ever do (well in Australia anyway) is critise her and her father. What Im sick of hearing is the obvious bias they have towards Ana and how much they ass kiss her.

They talked about Maria's father because he is extremely weird and did that throat gesture thing, of course they will talk about that.

I agree they talk about Ana like she is God's gift, in fact Jim Courier said she could win this year:o but Maria is treated exactly the same. Plus her matches are always on T.V, so we have to watch her routinely beat some crap players instead of watching a match of interest.

But that's how it is with all the top players. I don't get your point. If you dislike her that much, just turn off the TV when she's on. It's that simple.

Fans of the past probably said the same when King and Evert and Navratilova did not play the AO for years and years. Or when the WTT players were banned from playing the FO in the mid to late 70's. Or when Graf was injured and skipped some GS', or Seles was stabbed and missed two years, or...on and on and on.

I will miss Shrieky (though not a fav of mine, I do respect her). Just as I miss Henin and Kim! But, players can only play who is in front of them. Fan can only cheer for who is there, and there are still some pretty decent players in the draw.

I don't dislike her at all, I just find it annoying when one player gets all the spot light...and nobody else is even noticed, as in every single one of her matches HAVE to be shown. Lucky I have pay TV this year so I have 3 channels to choose from:hearts:

everyone has to admit it kills a major story line, when the defending champ isn't even able to defend their title. it's like that in any sport, but the game goes on and you deal it. no point to linger. still plenty of good tennis left ahead in this aussie open.

Well, yes, if you are a diehard fan of Maria like us, it does suck. I miss her too.
But try not to discount the whole tournament. I'll still be cheering for my (very much secondary) faves.

I'm kind of numb to Maria not playing, by now, though. Just hoping she comes back with 0% chance of that same injury.

Hrmm, I disagree with that....I mean i think it just depends on the player's chance at defending.... Had Maria played and Lost (I assure you she wouldnt have gotten very far, I'd have been more annoyed with the fact that the storylines would have been "Defending champion makes SHOCKING exit, when having not played in six months it would have been on par. And the Media falling all over a player gets annoying.

As far as the Magic being gone....Maria's never brought the magic. The majority of the slams since she came around (2004) have been fairly boring.... save for Wimbledon 2005/ AO 2008.

US Open 2008 was a hell of a lot better than 2007.....

Of course it's weird without Maria, but I think it's the same if one of WS doesn't show up, they are very attractive, and when one of those 3 girls is not there, that's CLEARLY not the same thing.

i can't comprehend how a major(GS) could be anything but the greatest 2 weeks from now until RG. i gues topic starter aint a tennis fan but a Maria fan.

anyway, with or without Masha, im going to love every minute of this major.

I agree. Its great to see these guys competing for a title, and slams, to me, feel weird when not all the competitors who could win arent there.

Plus, I would rather watch any WS, Maria, or Serb match than the likes of Dinara (no offence) because I think these guys bring more to teh court. I love Svetas personality, and her game when it is on, but her weird slump is just beyond annoying :(

The Aus Open will be less interesting without her in the mix for sure. I'd much rather have her and any of the top players there. It just adds to the excitement.

But as a Venus fan, I am excited since for the first time in a while she will enter the tournament with a good fall showing.

Tennis loses a bit of its glamour when she doesnt play, and with all the pretenders about and only 2 champions in the form of Venus and Serena playing, we need Maria to play more.

I appreciate both of them, maybe venus more than serena but still :p

This AO has lost a little bit of its magic because there is no Maria. But I'm still watching it because of Venus and JJ. I hope they can make this AO a little bit more exciting for me otherwise I wouldn't even watch I think.

Yes i agree, with her .. the magic is gone , the level has droopped ...sure , i 'll watch matches , but not so much on the womens site.. i think Nadal,Murray,Federer,Safin and on the women' s singles only good matches , probably beginning at the QF...

And i agree if Venus &Serena also would retire , Maria injured than women's tennis would be a joke..
