Lena won despite very low percentage of 1st serve,39%. However, hitting 36 times 2nd serve and only 3 df's it's not bad at all...

Jarka :(, had chances to go up 4-2 but couldn't take them. What a shame. Not a bad effort though. Hopefully it isn't long before we see her in the top 30 where she belongs.

Elena better win this tournament!

How long can she keep this up? This is all building up to some kind of horrific AO catastrophe that will have my crawling under the bed and curling up in a fetal position with a bottle of scotch, a pile of old Authority comic books and my collection of Crusader models.

I was worried about the same exact situation.

I have to agree as well... how long can she keep this up? This just feels like a build-up for a tired elena at australian open. She's not the youngest anymore. :help:

I really hope she doesn't overplay before the AO.
Awh well... we'll see how it turns out.

I hope that Lena isn't playing herself to death thinking its a "good preperation" for the OZ.

I'd hate to see the good form she has come into the year with disappearing because she got exhausted from playing too much.

However, 3 df's for all those second serves she had to hit (39% first serves ) is actually a good stat for her.

Overall I am really impressed with her form starting out '09.

Good Luck in the Quarters

(even though I secretly think I want Radwanska to win....:p)

Yeah, I join all those people, who are starting to worry about Lena getting tired. I really hope all that good form doesn't lead up to a surprising 1st round loss at AO.

If Lena wins against A-Rad she will defend the No.1 spot in Race

Go for it girl!

Elena played AMAZING tennis in the first set and was up 2-0 in the second before she had a bit of a lapse and sprayed heaps of balls. Jarmila was playing quite well, and definitely well enough to capitalise on this lapse from Elena. But when Elena found her range again she was just too consistent.

Hardly made an error at all in the first set, and they were WHACKING the ball to each other!

"I feel it's going to be a tough competition. There are a lot of good players out there, and it's going (to be) tough," Dementieva said.
"I just want to try my best, you know? I feel good so far, so we'll see how far I can go there."
Dementieva began her year in New Zealand, winning the ASB Classic in Auckland, and said she had no worries about a possible long run in Sydney ahead of next week's Open.
"I think it's very important to play a couple tournaments before the grand slam just to get used to the game and get good confidence," she said.
"It was a long off-season, so you always want to play a competition after such a long break."
One thing Dementieva doesn't need though is the anticipated hot finish to this week's tournament in Sydney and then in Melbourne for the start of the Open.
The Russian said acclimatising to Australian summer temperatures was always a challenge.
"I heard it's going to be extremely hot in Melbourne and going to be hot all the way here," she said.
"I don't know if you can really get used to the heat.
"You're just trying to play as quick as possible and get away from the court."

Well done Elena. :yeah:

I'm not sure, I'd rather Elena keep winning and play as many matches as possible before the AO. 2 straight weeks of play should be nothing for a professional athlete, especially one of the fittest on tour, which Elena is.

Predict a straight sets loss for Elena tomorrow. Strategic tank to get some energy for Melbourne. Nonetheless, Elena wins 7 matches in a row at the wrong time again.
