Mel  Marion was obviously too intimidated by Mel's power so decided to quit ;) No, I don't know what's wrong with her, but I hope she'll be ok for the aussie open.

Great for Mel though!!!! :yeah: :bounce:

Marion.

I'm guessing she feels she's had enough preparation for the AO.

I also made thus assumption. But why not just pull out of the tournament like Azarenka? No point in playing 2 games and retiring, let a LL take your spot.

Shame that Marion had to withdraw. No idea why. She did seem to be missing her first serve in that 2nd service game maybe a shoulder thing? I dunno pure speculation at the moment.

Mel will be on the verge of the top 100 now. Hope she can take advantage of this.

It's nice to see Mel's relentless destruction of every player in her path. Long may it continue

Fantastic performance. Surely she is heading for the top 50 !

Its probably nothing serious, she just didnt want to take any risks for the Aussie Open.

Well that is incredibly lucky for Mel, would be good to see two Brits in the top 100.

Hope it isn't serious for Marion.

Besides she's had it cut. And I dont see what releveance the length of her hair has to anything

Oh please get a sense of humour. The guy was obviously joking and I found it funny... Thats all! We both wished Marion well for the AO so it wasn't like either of us were hating on her.

I was there and saw the match. Marion fell down and hurt her ankle badly. It doesn't look good because she cried and had to carry by two guys to put her on a golf cart. I have a feeling that she won't play the AO next week like Serena did few years ago.

After medical examination, injury isn't too serious. Marion retired due to painful muscular spasm on her left calf and not a strain, dad said.
She goes back to pactice.

The first retirement of a long list for Marion in 2009She fall when serving. You guess she did it in order to retire. She confirmed that it was very painful.

On my opinion, like we say in French : "elle a les crocs".

I guess she changed her service routine AGAIN and needs to get used to it:tape::lol:She just wants to be more efficient at serve. I don't see anything very funny in this story. Some posters dislike her serving motion. But like Lena, she tries to find a solution.

And her aces percentage is rising.
