Is it a new ruling by the WTA for this year ?

Yep, theres no byes this year.

Maybe in Indian Wells and Miami though.

some tournament still has byes.
when the maindraw at least 64/96.

Byes will be awarded to the semifinalists of Tokyo when they will play Bejing, witch is being held the next week.

It will be the same for one other tournament, I think during the clay season.

Rome semifinalists will have R1 byes in Madrid.

Non-mandatory events with 64MD still have 8 byes.

Indian Wells and Miami still have 32 byes.

bye retired.

bye lost so much bye just gave up. taking up space and opportunities from better players.
