It's really too bad she will have to default her next match to get to Melbourne, she could have reached QF I think.

:bounce:Go Ula, go!!!!!!!! :bounce: Awesome win! Keep going! This is awesome preparation for the AO!!

I know Ula is a great player, but this just reaffirms my belief that Wozniak is overrated. After her points come off from the Bank of the West classic, I think she'll have a hard time staying in the Top 100, let alone the Top 50.

Just losing 2 points on serve in a whole set is something her older sister has never achieved !I'd say they were both returning poorer than they were serving (at least I can imagine that). There was no break of serves from the end of 1st set until the final game of the match. Also no BPs for either of them in the 3rd apart from MP for Ula which she converted.

What a lost, probably the worst of ger carrer.

But still that Ula played a great match

There were instances on the men's side that I remember when a player played two tournaments at the same time (Tsonga won Surbiton challenger and got through qualifying at Queen's at the same time, but that was grass, shorter matches, and Surbiton is a suburban part of London). Hobart is some 600 km away from Melbourne, so that would probably make 1h 15m or maybe 1h 20m flight, not that bad.

I wonder what Ula and her dad are planning to do. But big thumb up for putting yourself in such an "awkward" position, Ula:)

Are you sure Czink has to play qualifying? I think she might just have made the cut. I don't think it will be easy for the players to pull out of this match though. If Czink does also have to play qualies in Australia, this match could turn into a farce with both players trying their very best to lose without it looking too obvious.

Czink was assured of a main draw place by mid-December, so she can win without taking any risk other than denying herself some rest. When (day, time) is the sign-in deadline for QD, anyone?

I don't get it. Playing AO qualis seems like a good reason to pull out of pre-AO tournament to me. DO they have to fake an injury to withdraw? I believe the organizers are aware of the fact that AO is a grand slam and both of the girls find this more important than Hobart...

This win is really something. Ula must have played her 120% during the end of the match, unbelievable!

No, as far as I know, the draw is made tomorrow and you have to be out from the tournament you play in both singles and doubles by the time the draw is made, they won't put Ula in unless she loses tomorrow.

That's what I thought. And Czink is in the main draw. Ok folks lets not be too surprised if Ula doesn't play her best match against Melinda tomorrow.

Strange rules :/

And she said, after the match

Despite her form, Radwanska said she is still approaching the tournament one match at a time.

“We’ll see how I go in the second round, I can do, I think, better, so looking forward,” Radwanska said.

I think Ula will do a Dokic and retire at 0-5 in the 1st set.
AO is much more important and you get 40 points for winning the first match. For winning four matches in Hobart, Ula got 46 points.

The change is cosmetic if any: all points are more or less doubled, the only difference being that last year qualifying wins yielded 15, 25 and 31 points respectively, now it's 40 50 60, so actually the third win is worth 2 pts less. R1 win was 60, is 100, again a small decline, R2 win is down from 90 to 160 while R3 is worth 280 points in today's money, no change from last year's 140.
